memiki wrote:I started with Ryzom when we had the 4 individual islands. To me I would never of stayed in game if I had not had friends. Let me tell you in my opinion Silan is great. I can actually do it with out anyone. I love it. I have started many times on it just to enjoy it.

I have not had any trouble with the quests, mostly if you read carefully it tell you excatly what to do. I am probably wrong but I think that Javin quest says to go to Ruins of Silan, after running into it I think it comes up telling you what to do. Once you finally read it slowly you go oh doh yeah.

I love the hardness of trying to find the ********* fine motega wood, fine hash amber and the Sarina seed, it drive me crazy running around on that side of the island. But after taking my time and repeatedly getting nothing it is great to say ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I did it. Great feeling of accomplishment.

I don't like games to lead me around, well you get my idea.
But everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I am the same way..I don't like to be led around by the nose ..etc in a game.

But what I am thinking of when I wrote what I did at the start of this thread is...these days most people who play ..are used to just that kind of game play. I am not advocating making the quests easier, just more clearly written. (for Silan)

And despite some of what was said here, we do have a NEW team of Devs, and it is good in my small opinion to remind them gently about what concerns us as players. The old threads don't still exist do they, if you scroll the pages back I think alot of that has gone into the ether never to return.

I also remember the days where the starter areas were different..no Silan ..its where I made my first character, on Windermeer.

I put this thread up because I care, and there is nothing wrong with caring about the survival of Ryzom ..is there?

Thanks

I've banged this drum for quite awhile now, there is a reason why people leave after a visit to Silan, no golden ! marks over heads, not quest "trails" etc.

There is too much competition out there now, for Ryzom to ignore these mechanics.

I remember having a discussion with Acridiel, advocating the LOTRO and WoW mining methods, which he described as digging turds out of the ground and that he hated them ....... well to me, he has since proved to be correct, I love PR digging and wouldn't swap it for all the little turds in other games, but it took me 160 levels of desert, 150 levels of Jungle and 190 levels of PR, before I saw the wisdom of his words :) .

But newcomers wont see it like that except for a very few, but meh. ... I loves me diggin now :D

Heh okay I don't know if its appropriate to post a couple ideas re: content in my own thread ..but here goes, even if I am breaking some "invisible" rule. :D

I was looking at all the fish in the lake at Dyron, and asked someone in guildchat....have these fish always been here?

They stated yes they had. So ..what would be wrong with being able to fish, yet another quiet pastime..just as digging is. What you do with those fish well...not sure, as we don't need to eat or drink, but I am thinking there could probably be an inventive way other than that..to put them to good use. :)

One other thing I was considering suggesting..so might as well bring it up too.

I played Star Wars Galaxies, back in the old days prior to the CU and NGE changes, I played a twilek Master Dancer.

At any rate, I so loved what creature handlers were able to do, go out into the wilds and bring back baby creatures to raise up and train, give as gifts or sell.

I am thinking that something like this would also be yet another "content filler" and promote some more good will amongst the players, as well as...most folks I know love to have pets ingame and love to show them off.

It could be another way to get a mount as well.

Just some ideas that I don't think would stray too far from Ryzom's theme...but would add to the fun especially for newcomers etc.

Thanks

Meh, I always said cooking should be a crafting branch. So many things on Atys can be used as ingredients...

But I guess we can't hope for it any time soon... I can imagine how long and complicated the development process would be.

I would love for the mission mats to be able to be crafted into something either for your apartment or for gear.

With the mission mats that you can harvest (honey, fruit, eggs, cereal, and berries) cooking should not be that much of a problem either.
Moonlightmist et alia. :P

That may have been intended as a kind of negative but it is actually what makes any game alive: competition, racing, trying to be there first...

Late 2004 when most of high lvl players where in high grove trying to get 250 elemental or 250 heal was one of the most busy and funny time.

Players still have a goal now (each has his own) but individual goal are not competitive and do not create emotion and cooperation :)
----------------------
On Silan: repair it or scrap it : i agree
Repairing it may not be best idea cos too much spoon feeding compared to what mainland has to offer (already discussed in length in other posts)

4 Islands were too hard, ppl were killed by mobs blablabla... arent ppl killed by mobs daily on Atys?
-----------------------
On competition:
I mean by this other games...
Man some free games are starting to raise the bar very high nowadays: flying mounts; turned based games; awesome graphism; all shiny armurs weapons which make tryker waving and fyros flaming look lil old fashion... :)
-----------------------
More skills or more area is really priority: what makes a world/game alive?
Yes: the fact that it is alive with real ppl been there: not only us oldies but real newb ppl teaming in lvl 50-100 and even lvl 1-50 area...

Then get the content for oldies as well or a new skill yes:
- we have lot of wood; we could make paper; then roll up shooki buds skills (increase awareness of the world and decrease degrade on crafting)
- we have water, we have sand, make some glass bottle and stinga rum increase attack and decreasing defense (more work for healers)
- we have fishes; make sushis :)

Just make something new whatever :)
