@Acridiel. You haven't been rewarded for your own website and it's cost to you with uber items and stuff beacuse be honest you simply love doing it. The acclaim you get from others for your efforts are i'm sure worth it. But to the point...if you had advertised one of these other evil evil f2p games in the way you have Ryzom you would have been rewarded. They give out rewards even for having a sig on other forums with the game logo on it.

I just said that I would not play a Game where money´s the call.

Hell, I recognice Player-Characters by their choice of clothing anyhow on my Videos and InGame from afar. Before I´m able to see the Name above the head of an Avatar I know its (insert Name) just by looking at it.

Ok, we all wanted even MORE variables of clothing InGame, but why pay for something that´s allready free to be had?

Yeah, it would bring an influx of money, but well...
Whoever says that Ryzoms Charakters all look alike, or that it has no community at all, to quote a post faaaar above, has never realy played the game. And "Community" doesn´t mean Players on more or less active Servers btw.

It´s like this, us "old farts" would prefere tings to stay like they are. Yes, admitted.

But why? Well, many of us HAVE seen the dark side of other Games that are the "run of the Mill" out there and we didn´t like it a bit.
We love Ryzom for a Reason.
We love it BECAUSE it has almost none of the negative things many of us fled from.
We love it BECAUSE it´s different from these Games.
We love it because of the Dream inherited in it.
Most new Players sadly wouldn´t know about that dream and perhabs wouldn´t care abot it anyway.
Cash-Kids wouldn´t give a crap.

XP-Catalysers... Yeah, as you might see many of us old farts objected the idea from its very beginning.
And we all can see the results they brought.
Very fast High-Levels that do not know a Stanza from a Slaveni.

Ok, so even IF it would not be Über-Loot to be sold by RL-Cash, I for myself would not want to play in a free to play Game, because those I´ve tried always came down to annoying the Hell out of me and turning of a Channel would cut me of from most of the community. And the chance to find the few good apples in the stack.

Mostly I think us oldies are not ranting against the Idea per say, but against the possibility of Hordes of flaming idiots swarming the Game like the Kitin were supposed to do all this time.
Ohwell, we could call that an Invasion and battle their forces to the death, but I don´t think that´d be a fight we could win

After thinking about it for a while, I personaly wouldn´t realy care if anyone bought his gear or got it on his own real accord, I mind the attitude behind the Charakter.
Most People that actually earn their stuff tend to be of a more "humble" nature and generally more pleasing to converse with, than someone who just whipped out his (or Moms) Credit Card and bought what he liked to "look cool."

Also, and I bet noone has thought of this before here.
Paying for stuff opens up another very real problem for a company owning a Game.
Credit Card fraud.
Ask whatever Game-Company you can and you´ll hear, if they deign to answer, that it´s a mayor problem and causing very real trouble.
From my experience with a Gameing Company I´m not allowed to name here:
Every Month Credit Card fraud alone causes about 300.000 to 400.000 Euros Damage.
Repercussions are still felt in certain Areas, as the problem stays on.

Ok, most Bigger Companys deal with it and know how to circumvent the heaviest repercussions, but still... If another smaler Company like former Nevrax, would take over Ryzom and make it f2p and use Item-Stores or something like it, it would be at a great risk and could very well bring it all crashing down in a short time.

Let´s hope not.

Anyway. I hope Ryzom survies in one or another way, I´d give it a chance then, but well... to many idiots and I´d be gone. *shrug*

He´ll be one lucky Guild leader, if he can´t afford a PC anymore from all the depts he´s supposed to pay. If worst comes to worst. I sure hope you didn´t mean it this way.
Those are only a few not so bright candels and most people know how to responsibly use a CC, but well...
I realy hope for your Roomie that he wakes up soon.

This idea may be a way to save the game and make some profit but it would then be a game I do not wish to play.

So some like the idea of an item-mall, some do not. There should be shards for both of you:

F2P-Shard(s):
Many players, may be overcrowded, you get the uber-items you want, level faster.....but its free 2 play, no limitations.

Regular Shard:
Financed by the F2P-Shard(s). You pay a monthly fee. Everything stays as it is.

If you want to move from the F2P- to the Regular Shard you loose your items, dappers, skills, whatever you bought with real money.

New Content, Patches, Support, Rules will be the same on both types.

If the game changes this way, half of the community will leave ( and the reasons dont matter really so why argue about them. What matters is that it will happen. ). Ryzom will lose one of its most valued assets and it will become very different game and world. And it is questionable if it alone can drag enough folks into game and make enough profit to compensate for those who left and keep the game running.

So yes, I am against it. I wouldnt mind paying twice as big sub, but ingame shops working with RL cash is something that would bring ryzom much closer to the end than it is now.

You dont HAVE to spend RL money on a F2P game, I dont and I am very successful in LC, using the markets and training pets are only some of the ways to make money there, so I can afford the best gear and have top class pet buffs as my pets are such high level.

I dont think he wished financial burden on someone in his text, I think what he meant was, a noob is a noob, one that spends $200 is just a €200 noob that doesn't know/understand the game mechanics.
