GO F2p (SUGGESTION)

Post by hyaru »

If ryzom goes f2p with micro transactions like cash shop the financial state may get better, i mean alot better.

Recently alot of p2p games got f2p and that saved there game.

So this may save ryzom
And also its more fun with more people so.

F2p + cash shop

Ryzom can sell (rare) upgrade items (still can be found in the game but then more rare)
Exp X2 Potions
or even Customize items.

This is my idea what do u think?

I disagree, but let me explain: it may be good (financially) for the company running the game, it may be good for some players playing the game, but I'm not sure "it will be good for the game" -- although a (financially) successful company may indirectly improve the game-- at least for the game as we understand it, and it definitely will not be good for me (a bit childish "if devs do /don't do this, I'll quit", but this case it's true :o )

In simple terms, this is not second life or yet another korean f2p game. Ryzom is a sandbox game, with a few good things, notably a player driven (although somehow broken, but it sustains due to mats) cooperative economy. There are no uberdrops. You need crafters and crafters need gatherers. This is a strenght of the game. And this is without even considering the fact that I don't like the idea (although personal opinion) of players "buying things with real money" (be levels, gear, etc.).

Although I know some players don't agree or find it a weakness of current gen MMRPGs (especially causal players) MMRPGs and Ryzom in particular, your avatar is usually a mirror of your investment : investment in time, investment in practice and skill, investment in roleplaying, investment in social skills, you name it, but not (fortunately, imho) investment in real money. Finally, fantasy games are that, fantasy, allowing players to scape from their real lives into a world that, to some extent "it's equal opportunity", for a player that starts at a given time and plays a given amount of time. I don't like the idea of mixing real life "purchasing power".

This is of course subjective, and it does not solve two major problems:

* MMRPGs need to find new/alternative sources of revenue.

* There is a drawback when your progression / abilities are too tied to your investment in time, preventing casual players from "being competive". In this case, reward other activities, look for other MMRPG models (e.g. in some games it is possible to progress even if you are offline), minimize the time->grind->experience->value chain'of'doom, but do not compensate it with real money.

Regards,

Ani

So, you would prefer to let Ryzom die, never set foot on Atys again rather than go F2P?

OK, so...... what are you going to play instead?

I have played every MMO worth playing out there, none of them are in the same league as Ryzom, so I would even pay a higher sub for Ryzom per month.

I also play a F2P game called Last Chaos that uses a micro shop system, I have spent about €30 in the last six months and that was for extraordinary items that you wouldn't purchase in the ordinary course of events.

The items that can be bought dont necessarily effect the game, see below for examples:

Sexy weapon covers that only last 30 days

Different "uniforms" that can be attached to your armour that last 30 days.

2x XP potions, (the game has 2x XP events at least per week that are free, so the micro transactions are not really needed) so, similar I guess to cats in Ryzom. But these only last 1-3 hours.

HP and Mana pots that can also be bought in game at little cost.

Skill/Stat Reset cards, eg. if you screw up your skill purchases, But you can also reset Stats in game with a NPC for a nominal cost.

IMO a small price to pay, to keep Ryzom going.

Also these f2p games with in-game shops have booming economys. The gold you get/earn has a very real value. You can buy anything inside the game with enough game gold. Ryzom's economy is non-existent. Dappers are not worth a thing and anyone that might be able to make something for you won't take dappers, sometimes not even mats (most of which usually have to be Q250 if they do), only supreme stuff and cats which no lower player has any chance in hell of getting their hands on. You have to have alot of contacts or a self sufficient guild etc.
Ryzom is every bit as split with have's and have not's as any system that would use an in-game shop. At least in these places any player can get their hands on decent stuff with game gold if they haven't got the ability to use rl cash.

Umm bit of a rant against Ryzom there. But i've always thought it such a shame that this games currency lost all meaning somewhere along the way. I don't think a shop selling appropriate things would spoil it at all.

The objective of the "Free Ryzom" campain isn't to make it free to play. It is to free the code and make it Open Source so everybody can work on it and propose their enhancements to the community for approval before being added to the actual content through official patches. (From what I understood)

Yes, that might cause SOME private shards (F2P with shops or monthly fee, who knows, but it will cost a bunch to host them) to appear, but considering that the community is what makes Ryzom what it is and it WANTS to stick together, these shards will most likely be marginal.

Either Ryzom is bought by a "big" company or by Ryzom.org, the first priority should be to make sure it keeps running normally at its REAL speed as is it supposed to be, with customer/server support, volunteer or paid (Jolt ?), make sure to have enough subscribtions to cover at least the cost of this functionment and IF there is enough to cover all that, start developping as the new customers start subscribing and bringing more money.

The only thing I would accept to pay for with RL money, appart from my subscribtion, is RL stuff : T-shirt, posters, mouse pads, REAL Yubo plushie, etc... delivered by mail. Something that will remain even if Ryzom doesn't. Not ingame pixels that will vanish, with my money, at the same time as the game if RL forces me to leave.

People in ryzom seem to hate the idea, personally i like it IF the objects you have to buy are also avalible in events, last chaos had events every friday and sunday, and most days devs would give out special items to people at random.

If ryzom had tons of events to win these items as well as pay for them i don't see an issue.

Example: Friday from 8pm to 2am GMT it is an event, a GM desides what the event is, double exp, double loot, all bosses will pop at random between those times or all supreme nodes will refill, something like that.

Every few weeks a city is raided and the loot from the kitin can be exchanged for the same things they sell for money.

Would take a bit to impliment this type of thing but it is a good way to get more money out of the game.

Well I like that last suggestion, you can pay for content you missed but still want. So if you don't have the pre-order shield or the /fbt emote it gets put in the shop and you just pay for them.

The Armlet of Atys is ONLY for people who pre-ordered.
The Elder of Atys title and the FBT emote are ONLY for people who were in very early beta or focus beta.

Thank you.

Selling these would remove the true value of these items, letting people know you were there when it happened. Sure, there are people who want everything, but that's their own problem.
By the way, anyone interested in a <missing:E_INVK_02_DOE_TOKEN_EVENT_P_SPECIAL_PIKE150_DOE>? Well, you can't have it. It's mine.
