Moved to mainland & wish i hadnt now

Post by millsy12 »

Well after getting everything done on the starter island i thought i'd sign up & venture onto the mainland.
Suffice to say, so far i have been bitterly disappointed & wont be continuing my subscription.

The starter missions it gives you are deliver within time limit mainly. I know you can do other quests but coming straight from the noob island its kinda difficult on where to go at all. Tried several of these deliver messages quests, couldnt find any of them for the life of me. Died several times trying to deliver these messages & now have a huge death penalty.
I moved over with all my skills 47+ & having trouble even beating an lvl 21-30 ragus. The mobs seem to have 10 times as many hp & i got my ass handed to me on a plate by this guy.
Completely confused as of what to do, where to go. There seems to be no guidance at all and suffice to say i am bitterly disappointed with my experience so far. I had such high expectations moving from silan but i feel ive been let down big time.

Anyway, no doubt you'll all disagree with me. this was just my opinion thats all on how ive seen things since ive moved.

Tarathein

p.s. Now, i gotta think about getting rid of my death penalty, when im struggling against level 21-30 mobs. i think its going to be a long nite of no exp :)

The mainland is not quest driven as the starter isle was. Simply find people that are around your level and go out hunting. Attempting to do missions for xp or for items will be very disappointing as the mainland quests give neither.

There is a big difference between the packed starter isle and its missions and the wide, open world of the mainland. While the starter isle is more solo oriented, the mainland is focused on teaming. While it is possible to solo on the mainland, it goes at a snails pace compared to the team xp.

mm i have to disagree. RoS is new, fresh from the patch machine and has got alot of new content, the mainlands are not there yet BUT its also not the quests that are important rly on the mainlands, look for a team and go whack those sneeky ragus! its strange that you cant handle it though there must be something wrong with your stanzas or gear?

Oh well i wouldnt judge it to fast and get rid of that dp, then use the universe(i know its not used for that!!! yeayea blabla only way to get in contact with ppl imo :D ) so use the universe chat to seek a guild or some team that can suport you, once youve got that you will surely like atys alot more and adventure alot more! cause thats what this game is all about no?

well more i cant tell you atm cause this post would get to long.
Just give it another shot before you make up your mind and then well....after a month and some bitter sweet candy in the beginning youll notice that SoR is rly a good mmo.

About the tough Ragus . . . .

The critters of Atys are certainly tough. No matter what level you are, beasts many levels below you have a good shot of killing you if you are caught alone. There will always be people who will brag about soloing this or that, but the harsh reality of Atys is that civilized Homins are very fragile creatures compared to the other inhabitants. Against the claws and teeth of our world, your intelligence is your only advantage. Sometimes a win is just escaping with your life.

Also, you are right, there is no guidance on what to do or where to go next. The choice is entirely yours.

hey man sorry to hear you have had a rough transition. I am in the same boat.. err WAS in the same boat. I just recently moved to mainland, and needless to say i was pretty shocked. I tried to run some quests, but i remember reading a post that this game is not quest driven, and thats not the point of the game really. Went out and tried to solo. WOW what a shock there, i was blowing my entire sap bar on some growling crab lookin things. Died more times than i could count.

I thought, surely this is not the way to do it.. there has to be somethig better. Went out exploring, eventually met some people and formed up a small group. Saw some new towns, went through some portals, and learned some things about gearing myself and what types of mobs to hunt from the other players.

here is what i suggest you do. in /r just say "hey anyone care to go hunt and explore some stuff? im xyz in skill xyz, lets go have some fun" or something. I tired that and got a bunch of responses.

To give you an idea.. i was making 750-1000 exp soloing per kill, blowing my entire sap bar, dying a ton, and getting frustrated... partied up and i was making 3k exp per kill over and over and over. We couldnt even find stuff fast enough to keep the exp flowing. Before i knew it, i had made a good 6 levels in both melee and magic! That woulda taken me a good WEEK solo.. but that wasnt the best part, its that i was meeting new people and exploring. What a nice change from molten core eh?

Having trouble "even beating a lvl 21-30 Ragus" is not having problems. First off the carnivors and Kitin are tougher than their level. Often they have special abilities and are social.

Also, each mob has it's own strength's and weaknesses and your gear has to be best suited for them. What works good on a Ragus, may not be best for a Gingo or Kipee... Your mileage will vary on all mobs, as you learn more you will find the mob that best suits your level and specialty.

Don't let it get you down, let it open your mind to how to be the best you can be.

What region are you in? There are a few of us that recently moved to the mainland in Pyr that have formed some good hunting parties.

Having a 2 or 3 person team is a life saver.

Moved to the Matis starting hometown. Not sure of name but begins with Y :P

Would like to team up with people to show me around and find some of those 3k exp mobs that some1 mentioned earlier. At the moment im stuck at levelling up ranged combat as although im crafting basic ammo myself, its expensive.

My stats are if you have something similar

Melee: 48
Off Magic: 47
Def Magic: 30
Craft Armour:51
Craft Melee: 32
Craft Jewellery: 30
Forage: 50

Thanks for all yr supporting messages, guess i was just expecting something different thats all. Am willing to give it a go though & see how things work out

Who is this 'it' you're referring to? There are -several- NPCs in town that give a variety of missions.. craft, forage, scouting, hunting, and delivery ones. I skip ones with time limits unless I have the teleport ticket to the area or else have marked the recipient on my map previously. Generally, I just don't do delivery ones at all, as they bore me. :p

The main thing that helped me early on: Become an obsessive map marker. Mark every mission-giving NPC or level range of mobs you find. It helps enormously once you have the general info of your zone layed out.

In Universe, you didn't know what the Teleports were, or the name of your city, so people had trouble helping you in detail. Exploring and learning the basics of the game and the map will help a lot in deciding what you like to do (like zooming in to see the name of the town you're in), and what your capabilities are. Learning the differences in mobs and their resistences/strengths as well, will help you. Jumping in with little knowledge of the world or your surroundings will hurt a lot. People are very willing to help you, however, so take advantage of us. :)

Ryzom has a big learning curve, and it takes studying and time to get the hang of it. Personally, I think its worth the time, and I hope you don't give up so soon, there's lots of potential out there. :)

Heck I almost got owned by a level 18 Kipee because the damn thing stunned me... and my character's level 60 in combat. I felt like a wimp having to (the second the stun wore off) turn on Melee Prot Aura to beat something -40 levels to me... LOL!

However... I can beat a level 68 Iagara without any trouble at all... using the same weapons, armor, and character, at the same level. I even beat up a level 74 or so Goari that aggroed on me when I wasn't ready and was at half h.p. (again thanks to MPA heheheh, but still).
Also, each mob has it's own strength's and weaknesses and your gear has to be best suited for them. What works good on a Ragus, may not be best for a Gingo or Kipee... Your mileage will vary on all mobs, as you learn more you will find the mob that best suits your level and specialty.
Yes.. things have resistance. I found out the hard way that Wary Rendors seem to have about 50% resistance to swords.

I also noticed that some critters have resistances only on part of their bodies.... which has made me re-consider my previous decision not to get "called hit location" skills. It might be useful if you know the rendor has a weak head (but is resistant to you everywhere else) to have "head shot" (just an example).

To the OP:

The timed "find this guy in the desert" quests (and their ilk) suck. There is no question about it. The idea of giving someone a quest to just walk around and find some NPC in the middle of a huge zone, and having any thought that this would be the least bit fun or enjoyable, boggles my mind. I have no idea what they were thinking when they made this quest up.

However, there is a way to deal with it. Go back to the guy who gives the quests. Look at every one but take none of them. Write down the name of every guy. Then go outside the city and wander around, looking for lone NPCs. These guys often have (Harvester) or (Prospector) after their name, and are usually low level solitary NPCs. Check their name... and odds are (if you are in the right zone, and you should be if you stick close to where you go the mission) it will match one of the names on your list. Landmark your position, then run back to the quest giver and take the mission for that guy. Now just go back to your land mark and hand him his message, and you're done.

Also you really don't need to do this quest... I waited like 2 weeks because it was too annoying and I wanted to just have fun. The key is to find something fun and do that. I found hunting Igaras and Bodocs to be fun, so I started doing that... and harvesting, and crafting, and doing stuff with my guild.

Also, you might want to look into getting into a guild. They will help you out, group up with you, etc.

Of course if you really are not enjoying it, then it isn't worth keeping up the subscription. That depends on you. But I wouldn't let the starting quest get you down.
