Updates on Ring and Spires (french translated)

Post by iphdrunk »

Browsing forums, one of my passtimes, I found the following posts, which may be of interest to some. Apologies to Marjo and Xavier if I overstep, I thought it was important, and apologies for the fast / less-than-perfect translation, I was typing on the fly...

We don't have an estimate date, but the Ring will go live most probably the second trimester 2006. I can also add that the spires patch will be delayed to go live after the Ring. I will update the roadmap to swap both items.

(snip)

We are aware of that, but we don't have much time and this is the reason the spires will be released after.
Before the ring you will see bug/exploit fixes, or eventually some minor improvements following the "what bugs you most" thread.

So, regarding the Ring.. I was planning to update you when going to the Beta stage, but since you asked, you'll get some info a bit earlier.

The alpha, aimed to test the most basic Ring concepts, has gone pretty well. Alpha tests do not represent what is going to happen, but we've been able to fix a fair amount of bugs and to get enough insight on several aspects soon enough in order to have time to change (e.g. some interfaces were hard to understand a bit messy, we are fixing that step by step).

Nowadays, the most important part is the preparation for beta, which means porting the ring to ATS and open the tests to more people, specially the players, since until now we focused on the edit part of the scenarios. Now, we are almost over with the list of features for the Ring release, and the Beta should help us polish that list. Rather than heavy developments, we'll try to develop quality and robust features.

For the ATS: The Ring is constrained by a change in the architecture, that is, unified shards. It's a shorthand to say that one should be able to go from any shard towards the Ring (also, interesting note, the possibility of creating characters on all the shards). That's why we are taking our time to reopen the ATS, if too many bugs remain for the beta it's going to be "capharnaüm".

If you have any questions about the Ring, don't hesitate to post in a specific thread, I'll try my best to answer.

The ATS will become the Ring beta server, yes, but players from live shards will not be able to access the ATS (at least for now, since live shards require the new arquitecture).

What this new architecture will allow (once patched everywhere) is to connect to a sema scenario, be from Aniro, Arispotle or Leanon (thus doing some multi-shard events).

so we get to meet all the great pl from other shards? looking forward to meeting many new homins :)

i think bringing out R2 first is a smart move since it will alow all those ppl who think spires will restrict game play to expiriance many new things.

Hmm does that open the possibility of inter-shard trading??
That could be interesting...
