Just a quick poll to have an overview of how many players are running the game w/ or w/o sound
[Edit]
Regarding my own vote:
"no, other reason"
The reason is, since there is almost no ambient music, I prefer playing with either some background music in winamp, or a movie/anime playing always-on-top in a corner
SOUND - Do you play with it on or off?

On.
But I think the poll is missing

but when i listen to winamp or another external sound source the sound starts crackling, and i have to turn it off (ingame sound that is) the external sound works just fine regardless

I play with sound on, but no music with Media Player supplying that particular need. Although like with Jok, I get those crackling/popping sounds after a while (switching sound on and off in the options when it happens helps).
If the aforementioned issue with the popping sounds were to be rectified somehow, I'd be a happy homin. Even if the Kipees kept on roaring like they always do

It is on but headphones are sitting on table next to me. I have it on really loud to hear it.
The reason I don't wear them is I forget I have them on and either try to rip my head off or pull the computer off the desk.
speakers would be nice, but the speakers are on other computer this one doesn't have any.

Re: SOUND - Do you play with it on or off?
Sound on, EAX on, Max tracks, music minumum as I have since pre-FBT.
Normally works great but there are problems with sound:
The music loads because you cannot turn it off... you can only make the volume zero. Port or ride mounted into town and you get immediate slowdowns in framerate and noticeable lag. Only those that want to hear the same music every time they enter town should have this forced upon them. A volume level of zero is not the same as disabled/off.
If I want Ambience loud, I am forced to hear the screeches of the mobs which are not balanced right. Mob sounds are overbearing preventing volume being turned up high enough to hear frogs and waving weapons etc well.
More checkboxes to enable/disable certain sounds combined with sliders to make mobs, players or ambience louder might also be nice.
I suspect the many players being stuck when porting is a combination of all the new textures being loaded and the music kicking in. That alot of system resources used at one time, walking into town can do it... coming from another area and loading new textures only adds to this issue.
Playing the game without sound due to limitations of the game and/or your sound system really takes away from the game experience. Limiting a users ability to disable more things may force them to go soundless and miss some of the truly immersive things.

Re: SOUND - Do you play with it on or off?
Sound on, music off. I very much use sound as an indicator of what's around me and would be somewhat blind without it. Music, well there's not much to ingame music and I kinda like that. I don't care for the city music that plays each and every time you approach a city. Might be nice for the first time you enter a city.
As for music, I have launchcast goin.
