I hope this is just a coincidence...

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

I'm pretty sure *everything* is perma-hosted out of the box. Any Joe Hero or Tom Villain can create a mission, and its up 24-7 for anyone on any server.
You can see the importance of the ranking system here.

There is also the Dev-Choice rank which elevates a mission to the status of any other mission in the game- does away with tickets and instead it offers regular drops like typical content.

Yeah, like Sidusar said. Things we wanted, were offered at first, but sadly never got.
Well, only time will tell.

But full XP?
Ouch, not a good Idea in my book.
So people will create their ow level-paradise, spent all their time in it and never see the light of the normal servers again.
That´s something that I´d be strictly against in our RING.

Not quite. Every account can have up to three scenarios perma-hosted at a time. Scenarios that get extremely high ratings by the developers or by other players can earn a special status that lets them not count against this limit.

Players can create and store any number of scenarios on their own computers, freely change which ones are perma-hosted, and run private teams through their un-hosted scenarios as long as they're the leader.

Sadly, this is exactly what happened. It's now entirely feasible to level from 1 to the max of 50 in a day or two...

I still believe the Ring needs to offer more rewards for participation, but Mission Architect went way too far.

Of course, the Ring has the advantage in that it's always easier for devs to give the players more, then take something away ;)

Yeah, I´ve read that too.

CoV/H Players are complaining that the World is now even emptier than before.
Because many Players simply spent their time in especially designed Instances, to levelgrind. And that´s it.
As you´re even able to put Trainers into your Missions as NPCs there isn´t even a need to visit the outside world anymore.

How ironic is that?
Virtual personages getting addicted to virtual realities inside a virtual reality.
I don´t know to laugh or to cry.

I'm not surprised at all, already before the architect all the people just were grinding specific missions, best for fast xp....

Most of the time the only activity was just to farm, only farm... and now, with the architect is even worse.... that's why I stopped definitely to play that game.

Ring is absolutely fantastic, you can make more than just a dungeon or quest-line... you can make a theatrical scenario.

The only thing the devs have to do is the ability to host them without the need to stay into (and some bug fix, obviously :p )

In a sad way, I find that hilarious. :D

The Ring developers were afraid of exactly that happening and thus put so many restrictions on the Ring that it was hardly used at all. The Architect devs didn't want to repeat that mistake, so instead made the mistake the Ring devs were originally afraid of making. :p

Typically human to always be swinging from one bad extreme to the other.

The sad thing is, ofcourse, finding that so many players are indeed only interested in getting their character to the max level as fast as possible, to then do... what with it, exactly?

That's what I said, isn't it?

But yes, Ring does need the perma-hosting, along with fixing the new bugs that got introduced to it.

The problem I see with XP reward in the Ring (even if it's reduced XP reward so that training in the mainland is still better) is that there'd then also have to be Death Penalty in the Ring. And that would further discourage players from playing the really fun scenarios (which generally involve a lot of death and little levelling, much like a kitin raid) thus pushing the Ring more towards being a farming tool.

A fair reward system for the Ring would be an extremely complicated task. But however they go about it, they should start with small rewards and gradually increase them until a balance is found, rather than trying to get a perfectly balanced system in right away and risk overdoing it and then having to nerf again.

And they could start with picking the best, say, 10 scenarios, perma-hosting them, and letting a CSR play through them all to individually decide on a proper reward for each. :)
