Was drinking last night... :p

The link works fine for me and i've read that thread quite a few times since it started and i'm still no closer to figuring out why the story line doesn't go with the starting fame for each race. There's lots of assumptions I can make based off of that thread and the given story line but thats still not right (IMO), I shouldn't have to make assumptions on the story line and the actualy game mechanics and why they don't see to go hand in hand.

Well, the link still takes me to a "you do not have access" page, which is a bug in the forum system obviously - since I DO have access.

I do not know all fame for every race at start, but I've been in and out of the lore for so long that I *can* explain any fame. Well, unless the Tryker were friendly with Matis... I'd never be able to figure that one, but since they aren't I don't have to worry.

EDIT: Finally got the link to work.. had to .. well doesn't matter. The answer to the TOPIC is: Because of the Kami. The Trykers were the first that the Kami loved, then the Kami left. Consider it a marriage and divorce. Would you be all happy about your ex-wife's new hubby?

Enslaved? Is that an ungrateful voice I hear? I prefer to think of the former arrangement between the Matis and the Tryker as one where we protected the Tryker in return for their devotion to to us. We offer the same arrangement now. Join us as before, and you will be protected in case of any war. And you will reap the spoils of war above all others, excepting the Matis of course.

Oh, Kami! This is truly Matisian arrogance speaking. Ungrateful??! Arrangement?? Protected?! Your choice of words makes me want to tackle your knees! My better sense tells me that I should write off your haughty attitude to the generations of Matisian in-breeding that reached it's anti-climax with your gangly frame and upward-turned nose; yet--well, the calloused, dirt-encrusted, fightin' half of me embraces the ticked-off feeling that I get when I hear such racism vomited from the mouths of elitists.

Listen: Trykers--or this Tryker, leastwise--don't want war! We don't want strife at all. All I want to do is drink tea, let down my hair, and wade around the lakelands on a warm and balmy day. If I had my way, I would chew wild berries by the handful and grin at the wee Yubos as they roll on the shore, playing.

Unfortunately, there's been a horde of giant killer intelligent bugs unleashed on the bark of the planet, and I and my fellows are forced to go around training for war by spearing Yubos instead of playing fetch with them. We skin the messab so that we can make armor to protect us from Kitin. We certainly don't want the added trouble of having to defend our right to life, freedom, heaping servings of cake and pie, hot tea, and... er, most importantly, though, life and freedom--from the Matis! If you and yours could expand your minds and change your perspective the wee bit that it takes to realize that you are not the Chosen People of Atys and that no one has the right to exploit anyone else, then and only then can you and I talk in a civilized and possibly even friendly fashion. Until that day, you are unwelcome in Fairhaven, Avendale, Crystabell, Windermeer, and all other Tryker lands. I hate that you have chosen to be so devisive; the bark should not be divided into Tryker this and Matis that; the bark is bark and homins should be homins! Although it seems impossible at the moment, I will welcome you as a sister as soon as you rid yourself or your racial pride and superiority complex. Treat me as equal, earn my trust, and you and I can share a steaming mug after a refreshing backstroke off the docks of Fairhaven; until that time, my sword that is sharpened to drive the Kitin back to the roots will also be drawn against your racism.

Have a nice day, nonetheless.

Greetings Mellodi,

Perhaps the Karavan are wise beyond our knowing in separating us after the kitin invasion. It goes without saying that we have all been through a lot, that even now, three generations after the invasion we are still struggling to put a society back together. But we will.

Personally, I have no interest at all in seeing a long conflict with more bloodshed and loss of life. There has been far too much of that already. But it should be obvious to all of the races what is obvious to the Matis, that there is a natural order to things and we all have our place within that order. It seems to me that the sooner that order is restored and the races take up their places in that order the better it will be for all of us.

We all have a part to play, as a society, as a race, and as an individual. I vow to play my part, and to strive to restore order. Can you be counted on to do yours as well? As you can see, we both desire the smae thing, that order and peace be restored on the bark as you so quaintly call it, as quickly as possible.

Miy,

It seems to me that you are trying to smooth-talk me, maybe dazzle me with a bit of Matisian pizzazz and glitter. The trouble is that you talk about a natural order, and any homin with a yubo's hair width of wits knows that what you really mean is racial supremacy.

You ask me if I can be counted on to play my part. Certainly can. I will stand with those who aim to drive the Kitin back to the roots where they belong--stand with, not under! When you speak of peace and order, I hear implications of racial hierarchy. If you truly believe that the two of us desire the same thing, I think you should elaborate on what exactly you envision as "peace and order," just so we can make sure we're on the same page. As it stands, I can only assume that your idea of "order" is a single-file line of chained and shackled Trykers.

Mellodi,

At this time I feel it is best to simply say that we Matis are a lot more than the pizzazz and glitter you refer to. Over the course of time we, along with those who choose to join us we will peace and order to all of our lands, while also participating in the planetary effort to beat back the kitin threat once and for all.
