Role Players, Introduce Yourselves

(OOC) One of the main reasons I enjoy playing MMORPG games is that they are RPG games set in a community of players where literally anything can happen. I see Ryzom's story rich environment as the perfect backdrop for some wonderful role play opportunities, but I don't know who my fellow RPers are. So, who are you?

(IC) My name is Miy. Like so many others, my family was destroyed and scattered by the Kitin invasion. I have an idea that my family was once a great house of Matis, I have this sword you see, with a family crest engraved on the blade, but, well, I know so little really.

My goal as a warrior is to protect the Matis people, and to help us build our land once again to the position of power we held before the invasion. My goal as an individual is to find those descended from my ancestors and to restore our house to its place of rulership among the Matis peoples.

Possibly. I found myself confroted with a choice in making this post. I could either post on a NA forum and risk missing the RPers or I could post on the RP forum that serves all servers and communities and risk having the NA responses lost in the volume.

So, I dod what I almost invariably do when I have such a choice. I followed Murphy's axiom that states when you have a 50/50 chance of picking correctly you will pick incorrectly 80% of the time.

Still, I did not expect my query to fall so completely flat.

I'd love to join you on this roleplaying quest, but I've yet to find much story in the game. I guess I'm a refugee of something. I'm read brief bits here and there (none of which was actually in the game), but if I were to fill in the blanks I think my blanks would be different than other's blanks.

I'm not really trying to dog Nevrax for this, it's something no MMOGs have really done right. Storylines always end up being drawn outside of the game. I'd like to have an immersive, all-in-game storyline, but I recognize that it is new ground, and it isn't the top priority.

Raynes, follower of the Kami and loyal friend of the Icon Worshippers. While many of my fellow Zorai are foolishly spending time associating with other races, I spend my time doing tasks for the Kami. Sooner or later they will see that trusting those who follow the Karavan is a deadly mistake.

Kidding aside, there is a story, or at least the beginnings of one, and some background.

For instance, we know that the Matis were (or at least they considered themselves) the rightful rulers of Atys. So, Miy is a Matisian woman. She knows little of her past but has an idea that she came from a family of some importance. ((in fact, her family ruled over a great house, and that house in turn held control over a wealthy province, but Miy does not know that)) Miy's only possession of any value when she arrived at the refugee center was a sword with a family crest and an inscription. The sword is very old and ill'cared for, so the inscription is only partly readable. The sword was given to her by her father (she is the only surviving child of her parents) and his father in turn gave it to him.

Over time, and with the developing story of Atys as backdrop, Miy will, a little at a time discover who she is, where she is from, and will determine that her "family" should again return to power.

I have plenty of work still to do on the "known" part of her history, but that is what I have come up with given the sketchy nature of the story of Atys. And honestly, with enough RPers supporting, such a story as this could run a long time with or without Ryzom's development.

I'm sure there are Matisians out there who would like to see a return of Matisian reign, and the return from chaos is a perfect opportunity. I am also sure that there are others who would do anything to stop that from happening. Right?

I only role play in "around" chat, save time from typing those pesky (OOC) things

Kaena's got a story to tell. She was a little Tryker being told stories at night about the Kitin, the Karavan and the Kami. It was her decision that the Kami did not leave the Trykers outright, but because they were lonely after the Trykers had been taken as slaves by the Matis.

It is also her decision that the Kitin belong in the Prime Roots, where the Fyros found them. She will not ever attack a Kitin while travelling the roots unless it attacks her.

The Matis enslaved the Trykers, so Kaena does not very much like them. However, she does carry around a set of Matis designed armor given to her by a close Zorai friend.

She also believes the Fyros to be too curious. IT was they who started the fire, it was they who released the Kitin on the surface. Kaena feels close to the Zorai, as they presently have the Kami favor.

Rather than being jealous of the Zorai, Kaena believe we can learn from them. Kaena is devoted follower of the Kami, and feels she can learn much from her Zorai friends.

Lastly, Kaena leads a guild called Light of Trykoth. It is a Tryker guild (maybe other races later, or with good RP story for it) that is wholly comprised of those that are devoted to the Will of the Kami. (mostly, there is no way I'm going to uphold every possible RP thing over their heads, in Trykerland, that'd make someone take 20 minutes to a half hour to get between cities).

That is Kaena's story.
