Black screen after character selection

I just started having an issue last night where I can load Ryzom, login, run the patcher, and choose a character all with no problems.

After clicking the "Play" button, the screen goes black and the loading screen does not show. I do see the Ryzom cursor and I can see activity on my DSL modem.

If I click the "Scenario Editor" button, I see the loading screen and it progress all the way to the last little status box or and then hangs.

Working with Boroshi and Androbia in Klients we narrowed it down to a networking problem somewhere.

When I used my broadband DSL connection, this issue occurred.

When I used the GPRS modem on my mobile phone everything worked ok (aside from the 18000ms ping :eek . I could login in no problem, and they saw my avatar in-game.

It looks like an ISP issue somewhere but my question is: Can you tell me the full list of servers I should try to pingplot/traceroute to? And what, aside from pingplotting/tracerouting, should I be looking for to help my ISP troubleshoot this?

Dont rule out router issues. I presume you have hard rebooted it?

also wat ISP are you with (some have started to block 'gaming' ports) ?

Everything was rebooted: DSL modem, 8-port Linksys router/switch (with port forwarding, latest firmware), computers, etc.

This all worked fine Monday night and has worked pretty much flawlessly for years.

I'm on Covad DSL and am on the East Coast, USA.

Have you checked your client.log/event.log/client_background_downloader.log for hints to the problem. That should show loading errors and such and help you determine where to look next.

Ran a trace using my DSL modem for a about a minute:

Like before can login, patch, get to char select screen. Click "Play" then nothing.

my computer -> ari4.rzl01.gameforge.fr, 662 UDP packets (on port 47852)
ari4 -> my computer, 8 packets

Ran a trace using another network:

Can login, patch, get to char select screen. Click "Play"...I'm in game fine.

my computer -> ari4, 562 packets
ari4 -> my computer, 870 packets

Looks like an one-way communication network issue. I'm not receiving any packets.

Mods, feel free to close this thread unless anyone else on Covad DSL in PA is experiencing the same thing. Time to take it up with them.

P.S. Maybe the devs want to think about making the client respond differently in this situation instead of appearing to be locked up. I have the Wireshark traces saved if they're interested.

This is the exact same problem I'm having, worked fine last night. How did you fix this?
