Ogame is not new. It is one of GameForge's oldest games.

Ikariam just seems like another of those numerous cloned browser games and seems to me like a reskin of Knight Divine which was released last year or something. You'll notice that even the description is very similar. I recognize there GameForge's total lack of originality. All their browsergames are based on the same 2 or 3 same skelletons with different skins, that are reused again and again.

Metin2 isn't new either. It was released just a couple of months after Gameforge acquired Ryzom. NosTale seems a newer aquisition... but the graphics seem even older than Metin2's.

What can I say if not "Ryzom was WAY too big and original for a company such as Gameforge" they were probably expecting something simple and pre-made like those asian MMOs that they are recuperating and publishing nowadays. Their misconception now costs us our home.

Well, you can accuse them of a lot of things they did wrong (out of lethargy, ignorance, or maybe even deliberately), but this is something you really can't blame them for.

They run a business and they want to make money. Those other games make money (well, let's assume they do), but Ryzom currently only burns money.
Also, it is not realistic to expect that Ryzom will ever be a money maker or a business opportunity at all again. Yes, I know you don't want to hear it, but that's what it's like.

The only reason why GF might want to keep Ryzom running would be to appease the few remaining disgruntled Ryzom players.
However, few (if any) of us would ever buy anything from GF again anyway, so there is really little point in spending money to make us happy. They'd rather bite the bullet and just wait until the general public has forgotten this whole unpleasant story.

Sadly, the general public has gone blithely unaware of the existence of Ryzom since the beginning. Were that not the case, we would not be having this conversation.

That was always the main problem... Once Ryzom DOES come back - and it WILL - we need a good way to get word out - w/o gathering up all the w0w dropouts. The best part of Atys was the community ;P

Agreed about the community, but why wouldn't we want the WoW dropouts? We're talking about the people who got bored with the quest-driven, instance-driven environment. It seems to me that those would be the type that might be looking for Ryzom without knowing it.

The best way to get the word out will be to go to the forums for other games and plug it. (Not the official forums but the fan forums.)

Of course, it will depend on how Ryzom is brought back. If it is to survive on a long-term basis, it will need to have a real team of developers to create new content and events. (The question of what... that's a different thread. I want access to the Canopy myself.) It will need to have advertisement on sites across the web and it will have to have us, the devoted, spread the word.

Hoping once more that I will see the sun flare again above Dyron.

Not be a pain but, instances and questing are actually quite fun, the only problem with wows quest system is that it is very single player friendly.

Something id like to note, hopefully someone reads this is that a simple change would eleviate this problem, as those who play wow know, it is possable to share quests, a simple addition to this would be 'request assistance' and then any player in giving assistance can receive themselves an additional amount of xp/cash (even if they have completed the quests before), and then simply apply the same type of diminishing returns due to high level help, wich in a game like ryzom shouldn't really be a problem, if quest level range is given a big enough scope.

The end goal is that you have a much more multi-player friendly questing system, that would encourage grouping a lot more, as it have obvious bonuses to it.

All that is then left for the game developers to do is to balance the xp rates from pure grind and questing so that they are somewhat similar.

That way ryzom could attract a much larger populace as the game would be more varied in terms of what to do, you dont loose the choice on how you do it and best of all, it would maintain its so called good community due to the popularity of still requiring to group up to level. Wich soon sorts out the good from the bad - usually encouraging the bad to pack the game up and leave :p

As for instances, i can se why some are against them, but if ryzoms population was rise far beyond what it ever had, then you would soon be crying out for them. A simple example, who ever had trouble finding a good spot to grind because they were all taken? Jabs.. taken. Kinchers.. taken. Jugs? TAKEN ARGH!..

Simple solution, go to the nearest capital city, pick up a quest and supplies for a kittin nest exploration, and allow you and your group to head into an instanced nest, to slaughter a few kittin. gather some needed 'things' and get out, giving you +rep with that lands faction, some xp for the grind, abit of xp for the quest, and some uninterpreted grinding for 2 hours. (just how long does that "anti kittin cologne - warning only works upto 20m from any kittin" that the tryker "kittin hunter" gave you last?? ;)

But yeah completly off topic :p

Yeah... die Gameforge with your silly carbon-copy browser games, void of communication and exploited/unpaid customer service... :(

I just want to interject slightly here.

While i understand that people want GF to 'die' please remember that there are (most likely) hard working people who work for GF who are not like how we experienced, to say that you effectivly want them to lose their job is (IMO) harsh.
