Paid content

Post by ulani »

Would you ever consider paying for non-vital items with extra fees, so called micro-transactions or a "shop". I'm sure most will say no, but what if it could sponsor the development of the game...? Anarchy Online is trying this at the moment.

Say...
3 euro/month extra to visit Karavan's homeplanet - or the branches in the sky.
2 euro/one time fee for a Shalah packer.
3 euro/one time fee for a Gubani mount.
2 euro/one time fee for a pet Frippo.
6 euro/one time fee for a LA hat.

Yes Gameforge, I'm so hungry for content that I'd pay. But seeing some normal development would definately not hurt...

I sent in a similar suggestion several weeks ago mainly focusing on the space issue (adding further storage options for an extra couple euros/dollars added to the monthly bill) but with the same aim of trying to help speed up further game development.

Pets & other simple yet desirable ideas also sound like a cool idea but at the rate things do get developed I can't help but wonder if the work involved in implementing the new toys and billing system adjustments that'd be required would delay things even further for the next, 5 years?

Also even if all this were to happen, how big would the take up be? I know I couldn't blame people for not being interested in paying extra and still ultimately having less content than other MMOs. :p

sure, it has worked for alot of korean games.

id say put cats on that list too, since they dont have to make new content and it has the advantage of making a non-pvp / political way to get cats. plus at 50 cents a stack they could make a good bit of money.

If we as little street kids could figure out a way to make their games more balanced, challenging and fun....I would think that a game company or even the players themsleves could come up with an idea or two."

Korean games are very different from Ryzom. Their origins, their market, their structure, their mechanical and community dynamics...it's just not comparable, IMO.

Something to consider about the micropayment system:
It creates a visible in-game division between the real-life "haves and have nots." Your RL financial status becomes reflected in the possessions of your characters. Thus, part of the escapist nature of the game is lost.
Jelathnia, Kasarinia, KianShi, Maethro, ShuaLi, and OPaxie (Arispotle)

Have a system when paying to have a minium amount to pay, if people want to pay more happily let them, as long as you can say to us that money goes directly into getting the things we want.

this is why i said sell cats, currently they are the 'have and have-nots' after all there are enough cats for each player to get 35 a month. yet some get 90 a month and others (like myself) 8. with cats being sold, the have nots can catch up with the haves quite easily.

Would love this..just spent around $800 in the last 4 months playing Last Chaos. Alot of this has been spent on 'Exp potions', so buying cats would be similar. For the have-nots, you could easily make the items bought tradeable from dappers earned purely in-game. This would create a big dapper sink, give GF loads more money and make finally make the economy of ryzom existent. Can't see all that many down sides really, just a few disgruntled purist RP'ers :p
