I am currently playing on a trial version, and Im just wondering how far I can go and what I can experience before I would need to purchase the game.
Am I stuck on Newbie Island till I start paying to play, or a skill cap or something.
Just curious, I want to advance as far as I can and experience as much as possible. I am really enjoying Ryzom but I have only put a couple hours into it
Thanks in advance.

welcome! To answer your question in a simple word, "both".
You are restricted to the island and capped at skill level 21 until you become a subscriber. When you are a paid subscriber you can go above 21 on the island, or you can come to the mainland.

Well well, welcome to Atys! I hope you enjoy your stay here, as I am already. I am also fairly new and on the newbie island. You can look for Uyare (in "Arist" server) or Dazden (on Cho server). I see your questions have already been answered, so you're all set to go!

Level cap is 21 if I remember right (recently capped)
I would suggest hitting the cap on everything before you pay to make sure you like what ya see. Not to mention....its free grind even tho 21 is not that far in the grand picture.
Don't be in a big hurry to leave starter island plenty to explore and see there. Watch how mobs interact with each other and hunters (like spawns moving in relation to a predator. tis one of my favorites) Experiment with editing spells/abilities. How you set those up can make a huge difference in speed and effeciency in combat and one spell can be setup far different in one situation and work better than that same spell setup differently for other situations.
I recommend after paying to stick around on starter island till xp gets very slow, (50-60ish in at least all combat and harvesting) This will give you a great start on mainland.
Lastly build up a good reserve of dappers and get best possable armor you can wear before leaving for mainland.
Once you get to the mainland don't be to quick to join just any guild. Read the forums on guilds and faction. Get a good idea what direction you want to go. IE. PvP, PvE, GvG etc..... Many guilds differ greatly in these areas. Its good to know a bit about who approaches you first for recruiting .
If I think of more I'll add it later
Most of all, have fun and watch out for gingos lol

Re: Content and Trial Version
Very good advice generally, but I personally would disagree with this part. Getting to lvl 50 (let alone 60, eesh) is an ugly slow low XP grind on the island. The mobs aren't really designed to take you past lvl 30. By most standards XP has gotten very slow at that point on Silan.stheno2 wrote: I recommend after paying to stick around on starter island till xp gets very slow, (50-60ish in at least all combat and harvesting) This will give you a great start on mainland.
I think a big reason for the lvl 21 cap on the island is to get people to move on a little quicker. It's easy to want to get to lvl 50 when it's completely free, but after you've subscribed already there's a little more motivation to head to the mainland sooner.
If you get to lvl 50+ in everything, you've already exhausted the use of the first region you enter on the mainland, as that caps at lvl 50. I think it would be much more enjoyable to come at lvl 30 and then do more leveling in your capital zone on the mainland rather then having to ship out to a higher region immediately to get any good XP.
My general advise for when to leave Silan is when you've completed all the missions. Ignore levels. Take every task you can get and go from start to finish with all the mission givers. Even both Kami and Karavan, it doesn't do anything but benefit you to do both. You'll learn a lot, get some good gear, and be ready for the mainland. Of course you can stay on Silan longer if you're really having fun, but don't stay just to hit some level.
We have suckling yubos and up at all the capitals, so there would be things to hunt even if arriving at lvl 1.
Overall have fun, and enjoy your stay!

It depends; I come to the mainland with 45, and *If you play solo* the first zone in the mainland it's hard at that level. So, only if you are mainly playing solo, I recommend lvl 40 at least.sehracii wrote:If you get to lvl 50+ in everything, you've already exhausted the use of the first region you enter on the mainland, as that caps at lvl 50. But, if you have friends and use to team, the sehracii advise is fine. But you must think that in mainland is harder make teams; the zones are less populated (Not much less, but less anyway) and, while in RoS all people are mainly in the same level, in mainland there are a lot of people in >150 level, that don't use to team with 50 lvl people.
Of course, this is my experience; other people can have a pretty different one. This game it's lovey because there are a million different ways, all of them good ways.
Re: Content and Trial Version
Even people with higher levels may team up with you on the mainland.
Mostly there´ll be at least one skill that they´ve not that high, or they´ll help you off team, just for the fun of it.

The game is hard at any level. If you come at lvl 50 and have to move straight to a yellow (50-100) zone to get any good XP its going to be even worse.mithur wrote:It depends; I come to the mainland with 45, and *If you play solo* the first zone in the mainland it's hard at that level.
Coming at lower lvl and learning how to solo navigate the blue zones before the yellow zones is the best training I can suggest.
