One effect that you are neglecting is that KA has a different ethic and an efficient distribution system. Cats within the alliance are, to a large extent, considered shared alliance property. Cats are traded constantly. Each guild knows that it is called on share with the rest and needs to keep the crystal drills running. If they don't have cats to trade at 1:1 then they will be staring at some angry allies. Many homins spend alot of time trading cats around to make sure allies have them. Guilds that grow too small to share efficiently give up their outpost to others.
Contrast this situation with the "cats are personal/guild property" system. There guilds have no obligation to trade, so they can turn their drills to mats because they are too busy or too few to trade or playing another game or their guildhall is overflowing, hoard cats for the lean times, have "crystals are for guildies only" policies, trade cats at high ratios between grades, sell cats for large sums, only sell cats for mats, blow off anyone asking for buys or trades, etc. You get the picture.
