Southend Dunes Farm transfer to Eleytheria

Post by nonde »

Following on from having been attacked in pr by persons whose guilds I have assisted, one of whom I assisted personally as well, "because it's fun to attack and scare ppl", I have decided to pass on the op to Eleytheria. This will both free me to leave game at a moment's notice and to escape op associated tensions for the remainder of my time here.

I will be making arrangements for informal laisons between those on Southend Dunes Farm Roster and those who can continue to assist them in my stead, Eley among those who will offer assistance. I would love to see them get max threshold and invite all to help them do so:

I had a pleasant chat with one of the attackers in which he correctly observed that if I didn't want to pvp I needed to find another game and we proceeded to discuss ones he had tried that I might like. The attack wasn't personal or malicious, it occurred because Ryzom both sanctions and allocates its limited resources to developing game mechanics which enable pvp as entertainment for those who find attacking others fun. A game in which pvp and non pvp play styles are equally supported and coexist without either impinging adversely on the other is one I can play. Currently, pvp and non pvp play styles are not supported equally and pvp does impinge adversely on non pvp players, and in particular on the crafting community who very likely comprise the largest percentage of non pvp players.

Crafting is the greatest strength of this game in my view. I beta tested SWG and played for some months following, and recently took time out of game to try out Horizons. Early SWG and Horizons are both widely heralded as some of if not the best crafting systems in the mmorpg industry, and neither come even close to the creative and intellectually challenging system the devs created in Ryzom. Huge regard and applause for those who created it :) . Very sorry you never promoted Ryzom as such as Horizons got some of my money for so doing and you would have got money from some from their subscribers too when I described what we had here were it not for the imposition of pvp on the whole of the community.

And imposed on all it is. As a crafter I need to dig in pr. Only those who take sides however, can have tps in pr. We can't heal our digging friends from other guilds because game mechanics prevent us from helping others. We can be ganked while digging by those who find this fun, despite their fun makes our game unfun and distressing. The devs have not only enabled this practice, but sought to encourage it by rewarding those who ganked the non pvp segment of their subscribers with special items that only "honor" points could buy - and no, we couldn't get them from digging too as many of us find pvp so distressing to be around we couldn't participate in that either. And now we have ops, which is also the province of pvp at expense of non pvp players (my rationale for asserting this is the Dear Reader thread above). You should have worked ur pvp instead of ur dig skills btw Posmo, as instead of sweet um, nothing :) for mastering all 5 digs, you could have fought for part of one day and got not only a new title but an event dagger as well.

Hats off to Neun and many others who read the writing on the wall long b4 I did. I now think giving means of access to production to cats to only those who prefer the pvp play style was by design, not oversight or poor planning at all. Planning ahead for the attrition they anticipated would result from converting Ryzom to a pvp based game, and among the crafting community in particular. Craft is gruelingly slow to level compared with all other skills, and when the Sinfuls, Blackknights, Shadowkknights, Whiteknights, Mialees, and many many more Q250 crafters ops have driven out of the game left, the pvp community would need means by which to replace them more rapidly than was then possible.

Call me bitter, twisted and cynical if you like, as I am.

Sorry to see you go Zysha :(

Not much more I can say, I've campaigned against PvP-only content, my first ticket was a request for help because after playing the game for only a week and a half when some AoD nuked me while I was digging peacefully in the Ep 2 lands. The GM was apologetic, friendly, but unable to do anything.

Please consider coming back if things change?

Can only say i have to aggree with many of the points you made there zysha.

This is the first and only game i have ever played of its type and also my first taste of pvp i hate the more personnal style of pvp as in the tagging ect but do enjoy the op battles especially when there is balance between the two waring sides its actually great fun the nexus attack in tryker springs to mind as being a fantastic way to while away 2hrs.
But i still don't see why the devs see the need for this pvp to affect people that are not remotley interested in that side of the game PR is bad enough with all the mobs around let alone someone waiting to nuke u as u dig :/
Hopefully a balence will be struck one day on atys.

Needless to say riders will be supporting eleytheria in any way they can :)

i understand what you are saying and the whole FvF/OP nastiness has made me stuff rushin in a little box and start a new character or 2..

but the digging.. yes if you are serious about making good stuff u need to pr dig, *but* Wastelands/AoI/US are not in any way, shape or form PvP enabled. dont dig in umbra and u wont have a problem.

as i have said elsewhere the few minutes walk to get into wastelands from Nexus/Void shouldn't be an issue. and there is a neutral TP slap bang on the US entrance in Zorai..

I won't have a pvp problem but I will have a dig problem is the problem as not all mats are created equal in terms of diggability. Mialee who was 250 in all four magics + in melee too and myself, a CG, once - and I note in the days just b4 Mialee made the decision to quit - spent an incredibly unfun 3+ rl hours acquiring 1 bag of choice mats and over 3 million dp each because the mat we needed was aggro ridden in all fours Q250 zones. Time is another consideration as it is not uncommon to stand for 3-4 rl hours waiting for supremes to pop in the non pvp pr zones, and not everyone is able to invest the additional time required to access pvp free supremes.

And regardless of practicalities which cause me to when I absolutely must suffer the 200 zones, there is the in principle which offends me Rushin. As why in any way shape or form should I be disadvantaged because I don't want to pvp or be subjected to it? Pvp-ers don't have to travel further and risk getting additional dp in pr - makes more sense to invert the system and have the fight oriented players doing the roaming in pr instead of crafting wimps like me :) . There is no game mechanic which enables a non pvp-er to impose no pvp on pvp-ers - perhaps their should be - when within 50 m of a non pvp player all pvp activity will automatically cease and non pvp-ers could then run around in pr "ganking" pvp-ers by imposing non pvp on them regardless of their wishes lol. I pay a subscription too, and I object to being disadvantaged on basis I don't want to pvp.

And nor should pvp players be disadvantaged by the play styles of the non pvp players. Pr zones could be instanced eg, a duplicate pvp and non pvp 200 zone, or supernodes duplicated within the existing pr zones with some set to no pvp and some to pvp. There are many possible means by which everyone gets what they want without it being at the expense of others.

Zysha

Again you write with passion and great sadness.

If you go, I will miss you. Clearly others will too. This game needs people like you, it's a shame Nevrax have completely failed to realise that in their headlong grasp for revenue and PvP. :(

I hold a small glimmer of hope that you wont go the way of others like Neun who were driven away by the PvP muppets. :(

If you read her post, you will notice it wasnt the fact of PvP being here, it was of the way it was played by people.

Other than that Zysha, I hope you reconsider not leaving, you are an asset to the world we live in.
