How I ended up on atys

Post by raven41 »

Its funny really ...It was a complete accedent...Me and my mom were looking at games to buy,she showed me this box and on the front it said "Ryzom" (the ONLY box of this game iv ever seen in my life)I looked at it and said"hey that looks kinda cool,oh 10 bucks lets try it" Having no idea it was an online game :P we got it and went home to try it out..

As we put it in we saw that it was an online game(we never played online games) so we became hesitant ..but we saw 14 day free trial and said hey wth may aswell try..And thats where it all began ..soon after we were all arguing for time to play :P ..and now I have moved back to my home state of Maryland and I have not seen the game anywhere in stores in my state or Deleware (the state closest to me)...

And thats how I ended up on atys..

Raiding my life away in WoW was not my idea of fun, I couldn't help but laugh when I heard a WoW player tell me that that this game was a big grind.

The day I saw the seasons change to winter in the starter island, snow starting to fall on a ground that had clearly frozen up with no sound but some strange buzzing coming from a glowing bug and a distant howl was enough to make me see I'd made the right choice.

I first found Ryzom trough a search engine. I somehow managed to see a preview video and was hooked ever since. I fell in love with its fantastic landscape; plus and above all the battle seen on that particular video looked so intense I wanted to try it. I remembered it showed a group of NPC (could had been players though) walking in packs, like on a trek, and some where even on mounts. It was really unique compared to what I was playing then.

Immediately I applied but there were some problems with my credit card and downloading that made it impossible for me to play the game. Eventually my boyfriend solved the issues and he then started to play. Shortly after I took over the account and his characters to the point of literally pushing him out of the game. Sadly he doesn’t play Ryzom anymore, or if he does, he has kept it a secret because I have looted his characters in the pass. ;p

Although I can get upset with some of the mechanics, changes, and some bad player experiences, in the end I still enjoy and can honestly say I love the game.

If I remember correctly I originally found it through an ad on MMORPG.com. The one with the flock of sheep and a yubo. Tried it briefly during Open Beta 3, then some months later found the link to atys.ryzom.com in my Favorites and visited out of curiosity. Ended up starting a trial account, got recruited into the Order, and stayed.

I found Ryzom through another player. My uncle used to play, Trindle. I started it almost immediately after retail too. He sent us his game (he got a free month from it lol). And I started to play. He immediately taught me the basics of the game on newb island and when my melee was at level 20 he moved me to the main island where I joined my family, Out of Cavern (although I have since left). Eventually I surpased him in combat skills before he left. Although just recently I finally passed him in harvest.

I will always love Ryzom. Even though the community has gone to hell and back (although it seems to be improving). Just because my sub has been cancelled for a little while, doesn't mean I will not be back. I will always be back until I have no family left anymore, ingame. Because I will follow them where ever they go. Ryzom gained me a family. For that, I'm glad I ended up on Atys.

How I got here? Tricky...

First time I heard of the game was on a Linux games site, a free to try Open Beta. Couldn't get it to emulate very well.. got into character creation window but not more.

Then I played WoW, Argent Dawn RP-server, some cow on the forum there posted about this and told how much more roleplay friendly this was - without even having a "RP server". So I downloaded and tried the 2 week trial, but was too engaged in my guild in WoW and never got a hang of Ryzom.

Some months later I quit WoW, and found a VERY cheap SoR box at a video game shop and thought to myself - I'll give it another try. And I'm glad I did.

I had been playing a not-so-well known, small 2D ISO mmorpg, and the game started to go sour (got sold to a dev team that, well...just weren't too good for the game). I started browsing mmorpg.com for something new to play and found a link to Ryzom. At the time, Ryzom was still in "dream stage"....the website only had up some concept art and some notes from the Devs on what they were planning to do. I loved what I read and kept the site bookmarked.

I ended up going to SWG and my hubby and I played that for about two years. After the SWG CU I bounced back to my original 2D ISO game (it had gotten better) and played it for awhile, then returned to SWG yet again. Then came the SWG NGE...I played it for just long enough to get completely bored with it (about 3 weeks) and remembered Ryzom.

Came back to the Ryzom site, read as much as I could of the Lore and Races and Religions, etc while I downloaded it. I had an *awful* time getting Ryzom to not crash....turned out I had a fried HD (still can't thank Sprite enough for all the help he gave me in that time). Most of my Trial period was spent trying to figure out what was wrong, but then after getting things to work and seeing my first Yubo with his little reindeer antlers and Santa hat, I've been hooked ever since.

How I got here, wow that was a long time ago.

Well it all started when I was searching through FilePlanet and saw an image of a strange woman in a white suit; aka Jena. So I thought I'd look it up and a found the oddest name I've seen for a game "Ryzom". Tho I'm not sure I fully remember what it said but I think it went something like this.

Welcome to the world of Ryzom where you are a being known as a Homin on a living green planet called Atys. Since the begining of life on Atys four Races have been living and studying Atys, while many fought for control. These races are Matis a race of tall homins who understand plants and use them in their daily lives.

The Fryos a race of mightly warroirs who live in a desert, living here has allowed them to master the force of Fire and since life is feirce here they are masters of Fighting.

The Zorai are a race of dark skinned people who wear mask that cover their face. They are masters of the mystic arts and thats all I remember.

Tryker's were introduced let because it was still in beta. So I thought I'd sign up, then I fell in love. I played a male Matis, magic was very new and a craft system I've never seen before, harvest as well. I couldn't get very far because I was a royal noob i fought yubo and others like that for ages. Those hounds blocked my path I could never get through them without a team. So I ended up buying the best armor high quality and white and heavy with a pike from a NPC no less. We fought these huge and mean HUGE creatures that I know think were Arma.

Sadly before I knew it the beta closed to the public and I knew nothing about game designing back then so I left but kept my eye on the website for news. Then I came back and Beta was open again to finish fixing it so Tryker's were avilable too WOOOT. I lost my Tryker when Ryzom went public up I was only lvl 13 tho =p

So here I am a deeply involved player known as Windra The Wind Guardain and keeper of The Lost Tale. It will take alot more then people fight about OP stuff and PvP junk to get me to leave, I'm here to stay :)

Hmm... well I had been lookin for an RPG to play, and my cousin had been playing Ryzom for about a month and told me to get the trial, as it was the 14 week trial last March. So I downloaded the game and played for about a month, and then had to quit because of RL difficulties. But I'm back and enjoying some of the new things that have been implemented in the last year.

Long, long ago, in a world called Britania...ok, enough of that.
Eight year vet of Ultima, i was actually on stratics checking some info when i saw the banner for Ryzom. Considering I was bored of being the most powerfull person in existance...I figured I'd try it out (14 day trial did help :) )

After what seemed like days and days and days of downloading and patching, finally, I could start.

First Homin created...i wasnt satisfied with, and never left the island. Then Heaven came to be. The name (of course) was denied, then came Heavyn. This character left the beginner island within 10 minutes of creation...then came the first experiance with the real community, and what it's about...Kami or Karavan.

I was given a set of light armor and some daps by a weirdo guy named Loomas, q100...WOW the hit points i had!

I met the founders of Pegasus Foundation, Jin and Jiv, outside Yrk, throwing little green balls on the ground.....amazed at this anomoly I was recruited into their guild.....the rest of the story is for another thread :)
