I'm one month old in RYzom and enjoy it more and more as times goes on.
Some things that I have fresh in mind: best levelling is in small 2-3 group. Not in big one, no solo.
Scout even if it's not named is the basic skill you need, the AI of creatures and the UI lets you sneak in most places, this is a great fun allover the game and at most levels. Explore and learn behaviours of mobs, only this and will make a whole story for you in game.
Don't make form getting levels fast you first aim. It can easily eat your soul up and get you burnt. Most levels have their fun, try to discover it.
Community is impressively kind, generous and nice to newcommers. Make friends, don't be shy, ask your questions, find some master-apprentice relations, they have their own fun, they make content for both of you.
Don't hesitate to appeal to technical support. They are uncommonly prompt, nice and efficient. At least compared to the other MMOs I've been playing in the last 4 years.
Open the eyes wide, ask why are those letters on that building, why is that huge orchid there, and what use could have that ritual object. Don't diregard details. If you concentrate on game mechanics only, you'll be bound to the skeleton an not notice the beauty of the body. Get into the story actively.
Keep in mind this is not ment to be easy, and be proud of discovering things, of using intelligently the tools given to you at each level range taken. Just levelling means nothing if you don't play with those skills optimising them to a maximum.
Take all risks, don't go against all odds
Have fun and welcome
