This game has been the best launch I have been in (out of 5 games). There are some bugs and I have died a few times from lag or strange things, but on the whole no more than I was dying from the same things in EQ, which was 5 years old.
My computer runs the game well, I have settings up almost at the top end and I am only using an FX5200. So the question to be asked, is why does your machine have problems? Not why does the game have problems.
The only thing I can actually complain about so far is server population and content. I am sure they are trying real hard to fix the server pop issue . As for content, well it is a new game, so I expect that, but it would be nice to have some idea about what is to come...
Mind you, I went on one of the runs from Matis to Tryker land the other night, and the new lands I saw, the new mobs etc were GREAT! It rekindled my enthusiasm considerably... if only I had the levels...
Further beta testing.....?
Re: Further beta testing.....?
I think no matter when the game would have been released people would still think the game is a beta. The game in my mind is a lot better that eq and swg at launch there there was costant downtime due to server crasher or fixes on lag or bugs but even till this day eq has still got a number of bugs or missed features from day 1 and that game is almost 5-6 years old now.
Yes there is a lot of content to go in but the developers are working on it we just need a bit of patience and for me the joy of the game is seeing gm's and guides helping people out in the year i played swg not once did i see any guide or gm that would help people so as you can see the developers are trying hard to help us and they are commited to the game.

The wheel of time turns and ages come and go.
Re: Further beta testing.....?
I have no issue with paying to play ryzom that was not what i was stating, what I had an issue with was paying for such a buggy laggy version. But the lag seems to have now been sorted and I have no issues with the game I'm happy happy happy playing playing playing!spelk wrote:Its a subscription game, you will always "pay for play". Its a persistant world, that will constantly change and be developed. Thats partly what you are paying for. It was released at a stage when they thought it was about ready. There are one or two niggles, but the game seems very playable to me, and this doesn't seem like a beta test. And what sort of compensation are you looking for, for some aspects of the game that doesn't live up to your expectations? Its simple you either play the game because you enjoy it, or you don't. Your loyalty through the 'rough patches' must be based on some form of enjoyment.
Bottom line is, if you want to play, you pay. No compensation for lack of fulfillment of your expectations. If you feel your money is being used to develop the game further you are right my friend. It is. And it will be in the future. Thats the nature of these MMORPG games.
Re: Further beta testing.....?
I'm running a very new, very clean system with all legit software, and all the latest drivers, with no antivirus and a hardware firewall in my router (behind which 2 other slower machines run fine)
see why I'm annoyed?

Re: Further beta testing.....?
hmm the constant crashing happend to me in open beta too, but i had 1 crash in 2 weeks of play now.. thats pritty good i think..
i dont know if one of the patch fixed my problem or due to the fact that i formatted and reinstalled my system, if you got the time i sugesst you try formatting. and yes, you shoulden have to do it but sometimes iven i have to clean my car, even thou i dont want to...

Re: Further beta testing.....?
There were issues with some routers/firewalls in the technical forums, you should check that out. Some solutions were provided.
Have you played it on the slower machines? Try it, if it works with them then something is wrong with your PC. Put both down to minimum settings and see how they compare.
With a router I assume you have broadband, so will leave dialup issues alone.
All I can say is that I run a out of the box install of WinXP, fully patched, with a router/firewall and I have no problems at all, other than the lag which they are improving. So if the game works for others then the issue is your machine, you need to experiment with wierd things maybe, switch your memory chips around, get new network cables, try running it without the router as a test etc etc.

Re: Further beta testing.....?
It didn't really need more testing, since most of the bugs and missing features people run into now were already identified before release. What it did need before it came out, was more hours of coding.krone9 wrote:This game needed more testing before it came out. Each patch should have been thoroughly system and integration tested before release - thats basic software development principles.
Still, it's loads of fun to play the game, and i can't say it isn't worth the money i spend on it so far.

But, actually, where I find the comparison to beta testing valid is that we are all still reporting a huge number of bugs.
The difference in beta is that we were being compensated for our efforts by free game play. I have no problems paying for the game in the current state, but my major objection is that despite spending hours (and some times skill points - I have had a ticket in for a number of days waiting for a SGM reponse to unlearning a skill that I took specifically to test a bugged crafting mission, and am rather insulted that they can't find the time to respond even if to say no) upon bug testing, you get nothing for your efforts besides some warm fuzzy feeling that some dev will eventually get around in several months to looking at it and that some clueless powerless guide says 'oh, thank you.'
I think there should be a comp system for reporting unknown bugs that you spend the time tracking and reporting. Make it materials, or dappers, or something. I also think that the community liasons need to come up with a 'known bug' list so that we actually know what they know and don't waste our time chasing stuff that's already sitting around waiting for a coding fix.
Re: Further beta testing.....?
ok - the slower machines are both running ryzom thru the same router & firewall without crashes. Its not a router/firewall issue.flynnkd wrote:There were issues with some routers/firewalls in the technical forums, you should check that out. Some solutions were provided.

It could be my pc but thats worrying as it was brand new before installing ryzom - hard drive was formatted prior to installing a clean copy of XP and then Teamspeak and Ryzom. Changing graphic settings doesn't make any difference and incidentally it runs fine on all the highest settings.
Which makes me think that either its buggy code in Ryzom which is picking something up specific to my hardware, or Teamspeak - or there's something wrong with my hardware. I've installed Doom3 and it seems to run fine tho, with Teamspeak running as well. Running Ryzom without Teamspeak is better but not perfect.
95% of the time the errors are the Access Violation ones that everyone else is reporting on the forums. That tells me that I'm not alone and the dev's need to do something about this (as opposed to me playing for hours with quirky things trying to figure what the problem thats specific to this game is).
I don't mind perservering cos I do love the game but its annoying that something like this happening as all its going to do is put off new players.
Re: Further beta testing.....?
Are you using OpenGL or Direct3D?
On my machine OpenGL doesnt work well, buggy graphics and stuff. I installed latest video drivers and that did nothing. I went to Direct3D and it works fine.
How about sound? Swap sound cards around.
Network cards, the other machines using different types of network card, swap them over... I had a period in EQ where I went through 3 different network cards...
Not sure what our servers IP is, but if you can find one, run a continuous ping on a second machine and see if you get connection failures at the same time as your game crashes (run one in background on your game machine also)... You probably cant ping the game server but there should be a server you can get to that will show network connectivity to Nevrax.
Swap video cards with your second machine, just for a test.
I know how annoying it can be, I had a faulty power supply on my newest pc and the provider just wouldnt believe me for a week.
