Well, this may be my first ever post on these boards and I have been playing on and off since december.... (well I was wrong, second post)

Well I loath PvP and avoid it in all games like the plague, I have been into the new Gank Island and I dont think I'll be going again.....

I don't like the concept of harvest/build for Kami, there must be another way to support the Kami rather than doing things they dont generally like. I also would like to have a way to contribute to Episode 2 without needed to get involved in the FvF stuff.

Some What disgruntled....

mrshad wrote:You will never read a book titled “The Great Neutral Countries of WWII.” There weren’t any.

How about one called "The United States of America". The US of A took a neutral stance while the war raged for years until December 07, 1941. I make the point because Americans perhaps more than any other culture have a selective recollection of history.

We remember those who died at The Alamo as heroes....the people who died defending the Alamo were former Americans who renounced their American citizenship and became Mexican Citizens in order to get land grants. The infamous Jim Bowie fled to Mexico and became a citizen after going "on the lam" from Louisiana where he was indcited in land swindle schemes. They were traitors to the country they had sworn citizenshiop to when they decided they could now get a better deal from the US.

It's becoem quite popular in the US these days to bash the french after the Iraq boondongle, how conveniently we forget that the revolutionists were getting spanked until the french jumped in in force....there were more french trrops fighting on teh revolutionary side during the concluding years of the revolutionary war then there were "revolutionaries".

I make the point because peeps tend to be quite selective in how they use examples. The kincher dragging is one in point. To my recollection Nevrax sanctioned such behavior in the PvP Patch related notes so if you like to say "deal with it because Nevrax planned for this since forever..." well then try taking your own advice.

Now i don't sanction this behavior, Nevrax's sanctioning of it nor the entire PvP concept. I voted "poorly done take it or leave it" in the poll for the reason that it was area limited. I am not going to complain about what happens on "boob island" as long as :

1. What happens there stays there
2. I am not denied game content or rewards for choosing not to go there.

For those committed to the concept, I see more and more of these grudges spreading out of "boob island". I have noticed an upsurge in Kara harvesters in desert 250 mat areas digging "jools" mats for the racial resistances that better their chances in PvP......will we not now see a drop in behavior that made us love the Atys community. Will region chat revert to:

"rez please at seeds"

"eat dirt kara scum"

Wll Kara teams be roaming their mat areas accidentally dragging aggro on kami diggers seeking their own racial jewel resistances ?
mrshad wrote:Most of us wanted cooperative, PvE events utilizing the famed RAID engine. Could we still have been racing against Kami Heretics to build an apparently pointless temple? Sure!

Here here......Look at the features page where Nevrax sells potential subscribers about what makes Ryzom different....the RAID engine. Where is it ?
mrshad wrote: If you won’t give it to us, and soon, I am pretty certain another game will.

Judging from the increased activity stats over on http://www.mmorpg.com/ I would have to say your are correct. I know several long timer Ryzomers are now spending their time over at http://www.darkandlight.net/ with many more not far behind. The X-Mas holidays will have a host of new games hit the market and I can easily occupy my time with some of the new PC based titles until some of the more interesting MMORG's go into beta in Spring.

As for Jessica's statement of Nevrax being responsive, I certainly haven't seen that in any manner or form, but that's a topic for another thread.

ALRIGHT! Forget the WWII reference. It is obviously distracting from my point.

How about I rephrase and say that while there might be parties that do not wish to get involved in a war on either side, any action those parties take to benefit one side or the other are not neutral actions.

I really do understand the thought that this is the first new content in months. Perhaps the Communal Brain rolled under a table, and no one in the Nevrax office could find it for six months. Since this is the much hyped, much anticipated Episode 2 that was supposed to save SoR and bring everyone back, expectations were rightly very high.

As Jyudas says...all the time...there are a lot of different play-styles.
There are also AT LEAST three RP factions.

Keeping those facts in mind, we can view this event (and future ones) in a couple of ways:

We can come to terms with the idea that not everyone is going to be happy with everything. We can understand that not every event will be well tailored for every faction or play-style, and we can hope that the next one will suit our personal tastes better...or quit the game and look for something that fits us.

-or-

We can point out how the event could have been made better, to be more inclusive of more players. This is the first new content in months. We have been supporting Nevrax all this time, hoping for some sign that they understand us, and we are given a poorly designed Arena battle with material sources. Oh goody. For those of us don't like PvP (or, more closely, I prefer my PvP to be consensual, balanced, without leetspeek and 12 year olds) this new content is not available. And why should we continue to pay for a game that we do not want to fully play?

I get it...I really do.

Perhaps we can have a second isle of doom. Same layout, same mats...only on *this* isle, the FvF zone is turned off. The kinchers are all 5* monsters, there are a lot more of them, they spawn really fast, and maybe we could throw some kinrey and the like in for fun.

DP on both isles is turned off.
We get honor points for killing kitin on either isle.

If Nevrax wants to reward PvPers more than PvEers, more honors points could be awarded for killing players than kitin, and resource collection on the PvP isle could be more efficient

Then, I suggest Nevrax closely monitor how many people actually participate where. I am willing to bet that the PvE isle draws a bigger crowd. You could even make the Wall of Gank exclusive to the PvP isle, and I bet the PvE area gets more use.

Obviously, this does not address the neutrals in this conflict. The server is split practically in thirds on the faction issue, but there really is no neutral faction. I don't remember a single event where the players actually *did* something that was meant for the "hominist" crowd (what a misnomer. The Karavan protect homins from The Souleater. They, and those who help them, are the true hominists :P )

The only equitable solution would be another monument. I have heard something like a library or college suggested as the neutral edifice. I think it is a good idea, but here is the main problem: No artwork!

The second island solution would be relatively easy to do; the pieces are already there. They just need to be slapped together. Obviously, testing this episode was entirely optional in Nevrax's eyes, so we wouldn't need to burden ourselves with that. I figure it could be put on the server by Thursday, and still maintain the high, high quality values we have come to expect.

The third monument idea would take a lot of time just to do the art. I think, for the number of people it would satisfy, it would be a great investment as a top priority. But, this is Nevrax, and identifying priority has not been their strong point.

What we all need right now, despite play-style and faction, is for Nevrax to come out and say that they understand why many of us are upset (and be specific here, show us you really do get it) and be clear about how and when they are going to fix it. None of this "I want to tell you, but it will spoil the ending" crap! Will there be a non-PvP way to get honor points? Will there be a meaningful way neutral player can contribute to the story, without helping Jena or The Souleater? Will honor points be useful for anything more than third rate equipment (like the kitin invasion rewards) and boosting egos on the Wall of Gank?
