It would appear that the powers-that-be have reacted to us hominists and our talks.

In Yrkanis a herald proclaimed the following:

Homins of the Karavan, hear my words!

Acting on the stated desire of the Karavan, King Yrkanis of Matis and the governor Still Wyler of the Lakelands wish to announce the first Karavaneers Union Assembly.

This will take part in two sessions.

The first half will allow the officials and guild leaders to state their views, and the second if there is sufficient time, will be an open session for all Karavan supporters and believers of Jena.

All friends of the Karavan are warmly invited to participate, and we especially hope to see the leaders of the Karavan guilds in attendance.

The assembly will be under the presidency of the agent Lakera, member of the Kuild and Karavan Spokesman and will be attended by dignitaries from both the Matis and the Trykers. Please go and prepare your speeches on behalf of your guilds and yourselves, should you wish to speak at the council. The assembly will take place at Yrkanis stage on Saturday 8th October 2005 starting at 8pm bst.

I will try to take part, if only to hear directly what will be told us from the high and mighty.

Don't give this meeting of like minded homins any more weight than it deserves. Times they are a changing, maybe you have been away... The Hominist Conference represents homins that think alike as seen here in the forums. I got many screenshots of the numbers of attendees and they are a small percent of the server population.

The "powers that be" you refer cannot even do things on time typically, this was clearly not a reaction. Don't expect reaction to something done by the minority to rock their boat. There were more folks at the Matis "herald" proclamation tonight than the Hominist conference and that had no advance (Forums) information...

I do not want to take anything away from those who feel they should be able to make gains in SoR without really having to do anything... I just want their gains to be substantially less than those others that are willing to work for their gains.

If you can maintain and defend an Outpost, you should be rewarded with substantial rewards... to listen to some, there should be nothing gained by the dappers and effort put into an Outpost that the tree huggers cannot obtain.

I resent being called a free-loader by you. There are four skills open to any homin. Fight is but one of those four. And while Magic has its uses in violence, at least as many use it to heal their fellow homins. Harvesting and crafting make up the other half of our skill tree as we currently know. And so I nearly everyday seek out the right spots, get down on my knees and start digging. I collect what I find and bring it home. There I again sit down and craft it into jewels for other to enjoy and bring beauty to themselves and their surroundings with. 2½ skills of creation against 1½ of destruction.

You may laugh at that. You may claim that I am able to harvest and craft becvause you fight. And there you have it wrong. You can fight because a crafter sat down and dedicated time and effort to create those weapons and that armour you beg them for, because a harvester went to those places prospected and got down and dug the materials needed for it. You fight because harvesters dug the materials and crafters fashioned them into what you so want and need and deplore them to make for you.

I don't want you not to fight. In fact I want you to fight all you can, every day of your life, every hour you draw breath. But I want you to think about whom you fight and why. Why fight Homins when the ancient enemies, the Kitins, that drove us from our ancient lands still lurk in the below? Why listen to others when you do not know why they want you to fight or what advantage for them they want you to fight for. Why fight and kill a Homin, when a kitin is not far?

Yes, we are few. Yes, we may be misguided. Yes, Homins all over Atys may laugh at us, shake their heads at us. But we are here. We make our own thoughts. Not those commanded to us by Kami or Karawan. We speak our own mind. Not that dictated to us by Kami or Karawan. We are few against you many. But a single light will break the darkness. A single Homin can set an example. A single voice can be a conscience.

And to end this post: I do not hate you for fighting. I do not fear you for fighting. I do not detest you for fighting.

I pity you for it.

You seek a future through death and destruction, while I, like many, seek one in creation and life. But even then, know this: if I should come across you, your fight lost, your body broken and bleeding on the ground, your armour and weapons bent and rent, I will heal you, for that is what Homin does for Homin.

It is my humble suggestion that hominists ostensibly in the Karavan camp use this opportunity to champion the cause for peace before their people and before the Karavan representatives.

OOC: DT, can you try to keep things to do with the conference as IC as possible? Otherwise its just going to degenerate into another OOC argument and I'd rather get some roleplay mileage out of it. At the height of the Hominist conference there were almost 70 people present and everyone participated in some way whether supporting or not. That compares rather favourably with many of the official events and considering we couldn't get a server message out at all I think it was particularly successful.

I didn't note as many people at the Matis or the Tryker announcement.

A large number of the server population - as you put it, don't seem to give a monkeys either way and would rather level or dig than get involved in any RP - from any viewpoint - in any way other than peripherally.

Its also rather insulting that you regard getting together, organising and spending almost three hours in intense roleplay to not be 'doing' anything. That's as worthy as anything anyone else has done in the game and should be given some weight IMO.

You're also misunderstanding people's issue with the outposts.

You craft items of war, even jewels. the materials dug are for war. Why do you think the trainers teach you not civilian skill and crafts? It is because the government recognise the eventuality of war and do not witsh their citizens to be victims.

The Kitin are not an ancient foe. Prior to the great swarm they were but an indigenous species. Ultimatly they cannot be defeated as is, as being part of the fauna of Atys they are protected as others by Kami 'balance'. In order to truely exterminate the Kitin as a threat to homins one has to eliminate the Kami protection.

To turn your backs on the Karavan (or Kami) is a betrayal of your own conscience and a betrayal of the efforts both make to Homin survival and existance. They return you to life, they rescued our parents from the jaws of kitin, they taught us skills. Homins would not be here if not for the two factions.

(a little ooc) The effort to be loyal it seems are greater then to be neutral, the willingness to defend your faith, to gain fame in your faith to ostracise yourself from the rewards of the other faith. DT arguement is those of neutralty desire to keep/gain the same benefits but without commitment or effort or seemingly loss, where as in reality a neutral body not commited to either would not benefit either.

Read your Tryker history again: It was Elias Tryton who led the Trykers to places of safety through the rainbow bridges when the Kitins came at us in the Great Swarming. Thus some call him jena's husbond.

The Karawan may claim to protect us and guard us from evil, but they stood idly by when the Kitins devoured first Matis then Trykoth. Not that they helped us before when the Matis enslaved the Trykers.

If I stand at a street corner and claim that because of me no earthquakes will happen, and no earthquakes happen, does that make me a God or just a Homin with a good bet?

Yes, I use their services. I use their teleporters and I occassionally use Jena's Kiss.

But I also pay them quite handsomely for the privilege, just as I am paid for my jewels. Just as any customer pays a tradesman.

Unthinking loyalty is the coward's and fool's way out.

Claim loyalty and you don't have to think about what you are doing.
Claim loyalty and you don't have to think about why you are doing it.
Claim loyalty and you don't have to face responsibility for what you did.

Loyalty that is used to suppress others becomes a predatory cause. Causes like these are disloyal to loyalty itself, that is, they undermine the very basis of their own actions. Only a loyalty to causes that support loyalty itself, that perpetuate and nourish the community, can be the highest moral principle.

Unconditional loyalty is morally forbidden, for it does not recognize moral limits. (OOC: The 9/11 terrorists are an example.Unthinkingly and unconditionally loyal to one idea.)

From another world there comes a philosophy called satyagraha. Using that a frail old man clad only in a simple homespun cloth tore the greatest jewel out of an ancient empire's crown and they, armed to the teeth and absolutely able to destroy him at any moment, bowed to him. Remaining homins could do nothing but flee into the wilds where they were forced to live nomadic lives in constant fear of kitin attacks. A Karavan task force was eventually sent in to counter the arachnid onslaughts. War ravaged in the ancient lands for many years until at last the kitins were forced to retreat back into the depths of Atys."

"How they see Elias Tryton
A number of Tryker elders relate how Elias, a man all in white, appeared before them during the Great Swarming of 2481 to tell them how to guide homins to safety through a rainbow. The surviving 'chosen ones' would have Trykers believe that Elias is none other than the husband of Jena, in which case, it would turn out that Elias is the divine father of Atys! In Elias many Trykers have found a vent for their need for a holy father. For anyone knows it takes two to create a homin life! This notion corresponds to their utopian dream of a life where couples have babies and live happily ever after."

The destruction of the civilisated to a few days, kami could/did not save the zorai. Much as any sudden disaster one does what one can. Though in the above passage regarding tryton, if he appeared before why still did so many Trykers die. Also if you read the histories of the other races, similar apparitions were recorded, he is not special to just Trykers.

However it is the Karavan that did destroy enough of the Kitin for us to end exile. An d as i have mention several times before The karavan or Kami do not get involed in inter homin politics such as race wars, slavery etc. They are the choices of Homins.

Have you also died and been respawned? That is a free ressurection. But only those recognised as loyal are ressurected by karavan or kami.

As far as loyalty is concern my stance in siding with the Karavan is not based on just following the words of my parents, teachers and leaders. It is formed from the control exerted by the kami over resources, their view of balance in their interest, their prevention at our own efforts to defend ourselves, And if my theory that the degenerated homins are what becomes of homins whose soul/sap is swallowed by the kami then i can conclude the kami interest to homins is that of food, they taught us magics to fatten us up, then strip the soul rendering us less than homin, why do you think it was not long after we came from exodus that the degenerate homins were spotted close to where we lived. The Kami belief in balance is an unchanging stasis of an Atys, I'd rather progress, learn and make the land better for my decendants. That will only occur with Karavan support, knowledge and teleporters. Claims that the karavan are coming to enslave is to be frank, rubbish.

Tryton i do not trust, he has an agenda that is not declared, and incites doubt by his presence, but hides when wanted, perhaps a servant of the dragon.
