The fact that even the newbie island map is a maze put me off. Also, the newbie island was the most deserted one.

I love pretty much everything else about the zorai, including the avatars, the masks, the music of the capital city, and the lovely environment both in and out of the cities. It was just too hard find my way around the jungle when I first started, so I wound up leveling up my matis instead.

Also, my zorai newbie character was deleted in the server merge and was never restored.

I might be wrong here but in the past Zorai has always been quite deserted.
Dang! It was a toss-up between a Fyros and a Zorai for my first character, and you're almost making me wish I'd chosen Zorai. Might have to start a second one now. :D

[QUOTE=catfud got me a new pc and no lag what so ever in the game :D go go 2gigs of ram woot :D [/QUOTE]

Please excuse the off-topic veer, but I'm thinking of a new computer, so does one really see much difference between 1 GB and 2 GB of RAM for Ryzom? Does a dual core processor matter? (likely will get that anyway)

2Gb really helps me, combined with the rest of the system. I dont have dual core but 64 bit and thats good enough :)

There all easy in comparision :) (HH not so much, I even get lost in there).

But, back on topic. I just didn't like a blue guy who wore a mask. Blue, Fine. Mask, fine. But not on the same guy :)

I've been playing since Sept 24th of last year. I've been to the HH, GoC and Upper bog mazes, and they are just as hard to navigate as any of the jungle lands, but the matis newbie area is not a maze while every part of the jungle is confusing to someone like me. Since I have no sense of direction, and died very easily every time I got myself lost, I gave up on the zorai character.

My only point is, there's nothing really about zorai that put me off playing one, other than my own lack of ability to navigate the maze-like environment there with a weak avatar.

I'm in the jungle far more often now, but back when I started playing it just seemed too hard to get around there.

Heretic's Hovel and Grove of Confusion are very jungle-like, even though the foragable materials are forest.

I don't like the seemingly perpetual darkness in the Witherings, or the colors, or the lag, or the mazelikeness. First thing I did with my new Zorai character, after reaching the mainland, was get her on a trek to Verdant Heights. ;)

(1) On my old 'puter I found the it lagged far more than tryker lands. (2) Also too dark! Kept going cross-eyed after wandering in there for a while. (3) Lastly the capital was the worst in terms of FPS. Worse even than Pyr.

I liked the setting etc it just didn't work for me technically. Now if I had a new computer i'd probably play them because they look the best! (So no problems with the blue skinned, mask wearing, kami lover thingo)

so basically it all boils down to the map design?

i.e. Zorai map design sucks.

'cept for Void of course. Void rocks ;)
