Ouch, i'm blind

So, i've created this poll because i think all players will like the following idea: We need to be able to zoom out farther.
Just an old example: you are an elementalist in a team, ure hunting, then you want to target a mob, but in the last time a big creature stands between you and the camera, and anywhere you click, you wil target that creature. You are in hurry to nuke, so you didn't notice and you will get killed as maybe your whole team...
Another thing here, that we have a couple windows up on the interface, and sometimes they let to see you too small area, this time, a better zoom out can help too...
Or just think if you ride your mek ,you can barely see the middle of the screen (if you aren't tryker :D )
Would be really cool to zoom out farther...

Just edit your config file. It's no problem to zoom out 1000miles

im pretty sure its against the policies we all sign when we log in to edit the files.

Zee made a video of the game with edited config files and he was asked to reinstall it or he would not get game support.

And he reinstalled :P

And thats the whole point. You are allowed to edit the client.cfg file, but you won´t get any support on issues related to your changes.

i.e. Sometimes, when I zoom out to far, my client freezes. But no problem, it´s my own fault, so I won´t complain and just relog. ;)

Wrong, you won't get any support at all.

Yep, it should be possible to zoom out further - I would say to around 2 or 2.5x the current limit.

The default view in Ryzom is too claustrophobic, and there's no real reason for such a low limit - every MMO I've played has a bigger limit without manual tweaking. Being able to see an extra 5M or so around you has little impact on game mechanics, since aggro ranges are usually far in excess of that.

The values should be moved from the config file (or encoded/encrypted somewhere), and there should be a slider in-game which has better limits that the current ones.

Bigger limits mean more rendered graphics and more potential slowdowns, but that is easily fixed by turning settings down slightly, and that's a fair enough compromise for extra zoom distance. I don't want to zoom a million miles, just 2x what I can now.

Disclaimer: The following information is provided for educational purposes only. Modifying any of the ryzom files manually means you will not be able to officially receive support from the CSR team!

To change your camera zoom distance max value:

- close all instances of ryzom related programs
- locate ../Ryzom/client.cfg
- open with your favorite text editor
- append the following line to the bottom of the text file (must have ten trailing zeros!)...
CameraDistMax = 10.0000000000;
- save the text file and load ryzom, enjoy!

The default is about 5 meters, and I believe back in beta the default value was 10 meters. 10 meters feels much less cramped while still feeling close to the action for me.

P.S. Before anyone decides to go on a crusade against me...Just my presence in the game is in violation of the EULA. I play the game in linux and the files MUST be modified manually to play. Also I have written a detailed article: Ryzom in Linux (The Unofficial HOW-TO) (which includes this modification in the text), which is promoted by Community Liaison Xavier Antoviaque in this thread. I only have to mention this because there's surely someone out there who's "holier than thou" that will throw a fit :0). Just remember you will not be offered support from Nevrax or Jolt!

[Edit: I've never heard of not being able to share information :0) Is it in violation of the EULA, definitely! What does that mean to me? Well obviously I don't receive support for running the game in linux...although I do offer what support I can, I have even remotely installed Ryzom on someone's linux machine before :0) There's always at least one person who vocalizes something like this...does that mean I'm going to stop? Definitely not! Helping people is what I'm all about!]
