Well while I hear what some people are saying I think from reading between the lines on hte numerous threads that have been started on this subject that some people must be over hyping the dangers of going to mainland.
Now hold on there.....ease away from the can of gasoline a sec....
What Im saying is I think people seem to be saying the same things over and over. They say "I went to mainland at 30 and its pretty tough but...I made a couple levels and figured thigns out and its moving along now....".
What this sounds like to me is basically just culture shock. It's not that the mainland is necessairly too hard....its that noob island is too easy and people get a bit too cocky and too complacent and then walk into the fire naked so to speak. Now of course....Im not expert on the subject as Im still on noob island. Im currently 28 melee, 26 Offensive magic, 25 defensive magic, 26 harvesting and 22 Crafting. I plan to go to mainland most likely this weekend like Sunday after I get to 30 on both melee and Offensive magic and I get about 150k dappers is my goal.
But again...it just seems to me from reading so many of these posts people are just getting a shock when they have been pampered so much by the easy difficulty of noob island. Now if the exp on mainland is not appropriate to the challenge thats a whole other story.... if a mob on mainland is harder then say the Kipee's on noob island it should be giving more experience. Im getting around 1500 or so exp on noob island for kipees right this minute. I hope if I go to mainland and kill something slightly hard I will get more experience.
Leaving Noobieland? THINK TWICE KIDDOS!

The EXP is lower on the mainland and it is much harder to kill things due to other MOBs joining in on the fight. On the Noob island, you can fight a single Izam when there are 30 others within 10m and have no problem. Try that on the mainland and you will die note - only mobs of the same type will join in the battle unless the joining MOB would have aggro'd you anyway.tekkor wrote:Now if the exp on mainland is not appropriate to the challenge thats a whole other story.... if a mob on mainland is harder then say the Kipee's on noob island it should be giving more experience. Think of it this way ... When you are fighting on the noob island, how many times did another MOB "look" at you while you were fighting it's brother? On the mainland, that MOB that looked at you would have done more than just run up to you and give you a hug.
The biggest problem I had was finding ways around fighting multiple MOBs at once. Honestly, I like the way the fights go on the mainland, it actually makes you think before attacking and sometimes what should be an easy fight turns into a battle for your life as you get the attention of passing MOBs.

The other main issue is that it is extremely difficult to increase your crafting skills. One of the methods of raising crafting is to take a crafting mission and craft it for money, then use the money to buy more materials for practices. You can do this for any craft skill in any city in noob land.
On the mainland, you only get 1 to 2 missions that require ONE type of crafting. Often its a mix of say Melee and Armor or Ranged ammo and Jewelcraft for example. This makes it impossible to do them unless you are specializing in both. The profit for these missions are also very small compaired to their Nooby land versions. Only your capital city has missions so far, the rest have no mission NPCs that work.
Compound this with the fact that most of the missions are for ql 30+ and the stores on the mainland only sell ql 10 and 25 mats.
Harvest your own mats you say? Well the mainland doesn't have mats spawning up by themselves except for amber. The rest have to be prospected, and most of the good areas are very small near town that get depleted very fast. Compound this by the fact that theres a level 100 mob roaming around in some of those areas and its very hard to get alot of mats.
The only other option is crafting for other players. Unfortunately, either theres a low demand or everyone is crafting the same items. Selling to other players is very hard unless you've already built up your crafting skill in newbie land and can make ql40-50 items with +15-25 stats.
So you see, there are more than the hunting reasons for not leaving n00b land.

Re: Leaving Noobieland? THINK TWICE KIDDOS!
I heard all the "don't leave until you're 30" stuff and one recommendation of "at least be 20". I had seen all of newbieland by 20 in mellee and 18 in magic. I was bored. I moved.
The game is a LOT MORE FUN now.
I'm not sure why people think that challenge is a bad thing. Why do you want to play a game where you never die, can make oodles of money without having to use any strategy, and basically just climb the ladder with no effort expended.
Blech! I'd rather struggle for three nights trying to figure out how in the hell I can take this mob that is at 2% health when I die so that it dies when I'm at 2% health instead. The joy of finally getting the right SAP crystal and upgrading your gloves and seeing it FINALLY work - well, that makes it a game.
Otherwise it's just lather, rinse, repeat.
The purpose of newbie island is to learn how to play the game. Once you learn how, why aren't you playing the game instead of rerunning the tutorial ad nauseum?

Well theres nothing wrong with struggling. The problem comes when you are looking for a group and everyone is beyond your level, or trying to sell your crafted items and find out there is no player market for the stuff you make because most of the people already leveled past that QL. As you struggle more and more, the more behind you will be with the rest of the pack. Newbies are taking the advice to stay in newbie isle so those of you waiting to sell them the junk you made are still not going to get a market as they will look for the best quality item as soon as they can.judy3t wrote:

You set yourself back even more by restarting back in the starting areas.korin77 wrote:Well theres nothing wrong with struggling. Why not tough it out, wait until the next wave of people show up, during that time raising what you can.
I went to mainland with my very first character with only 10 fight, 10 magic, 0 craft. Was very fun, was a great challenge, and I was able to get up to 30s without too many deaths.
My favorite memory was when my brother and I were seeing the exp we received from mobs closer to town, so I say "We need to find something bigger"
"Oh, what's that over there"
5 seconds later we're looking at our bodies lmao.
Is it impossible? No.
Is it a challenge? Yes.
Will it be a cakewalk like the starter areas? Most definitely not.
Re: Leaving Noobieland? THINK TWICE KIDDOS!
No body is asking anyone to start over. I am telling newbies to stay in newbie land and gain more levels. Sure you got to level 30, how long did it take you? Some people from newbie land have gotten to 65 crafting in 2 days. Someone posted they had 1mil creds already and have not even left newbie land. They can just pop over to mainland and buy a house. How many days of struggle do you think you'll have to make to make 1 mil? I know personally there were several mistakes I have made but one biggest one is to leave newbie land too early. I was making 100k every 3 hours in newbie land. I can barely make 30k on the mainland in that time. Forget about crafting, because of the amount of time I have to spend trying to get mats, it has taken me a week just to raise armor crafting 5 levels.kierstad wrote:You set yourself back even more by restarting back in the starting areas.

Re: Leaving Noobieland? THINK TWICE KIDDOS!
Some people leave newbieland at level 1 and do fine.
Some people try to get as close to 50s as they can.
Really, I think it is fine.
There is NO exp dropoff on mainland. Exp is not calculated by zone, but by critter. Suckling yubo on newbie island is worth the same as a suckling yubo on the mainland. I think some people just aren't paying attention to the adjective before the mobs name before wacking up and hitting it.
Weeny Ragus isn't the same as a Puny Ragus right?
Well when you run out onto the mainland that Vulgar Izam isn't the same as a fledgling Izam either.
Except for crafting, once you know the game and are confident with it I don't see any reason to stay on newbie island even at level 1.
Oh, and those mission givers in other cities aren't broken.. they're just too high level for you. Try talking to them with "who are you" rather than just asking for missions and assuming they're broken.

I, personally, am glad I went over when I did at level 20. Crafting is more difficult. I don't know why you can QL 10 and QL 20 items on the island but can get QL 10 items on the mainland but the stores skip to QL 25. What happened to the QL 20s.
Once I figured out that Timourous aggroed when attacking other mobs I did well. Learned where the gingos were and stayed out of that area.

Don't get so defensive. I was merely stating the fact that if you feel you erred going to mainland too soon, you don't necessarily have to restart.korin77 wrote:No body is asking anyone to start over. In regards to the crafting, I know that. I'm one of those people. I now have 65 Heavy Armor, 50 melee weapon, and 30s in the other crafts.
For me to get to 30 with my first character, it really didn't take me all that long. Maybe 4-5 hours? And in that time I still made some pretty decent dapper from drops (probably about 120k or so). It just seems that people are either exaggerating things just a bit, or just being defeatist.
