Why did the US servers need to be looked at by Jolt (UK) engineers? Is Windermeer hosted over here by Jolt, instead of in the USA by Themis? it may be that the back up server is in europe, not the shard itself
Edit: oh, nvm, all the servers had to be at the same place of the outage
Re: Unannounced Downtime???
Let's try to clear some things up.
*6:00 a.m. is 12:00 a.m. EST.
*Winermeer is state-side, but is still hosted through Jolt as are the euro servers which are in the UK.
*The electrical system is what caused the servers to go down in the first place, not what's keeping them down. The backup server is what's keeping the server from rebooting (see my sticky http://ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12014).

If the electrical failure was in the US why did it effect the servers at all? Isn't there a power backup system? Something doesn't add up here.

Re: Unannounced Downtime???
This still doesn't make sense to me. It sounds like you are saying that the server or servers that make up Windermeer are physically in the US but all of the support staff and running of the server is done from the UK.cerest wrote:Let's try to clear some things up.

Re: Unannounced Downtime???
It is possible that only Jolt has the required access to US servers for some of the maintenance and management operations, which (guessing) may mean ssh access, root privs, the use of special fault redundancy tools etc. that seems the only logical explanation. I guess themis are granted a few server operations, but some more complex ones may require another set of tools etc.raynes wrote:This still doesn't make sense to me. Re: Unannounced Downtime???
Fair enough explanation...so why is it that only the north american server is down because of this and not all of the servers...especially since all servers are hosted by Jolt in the U.K. "*Winermeer is state-side, but is still hosted through Jolt as are the euro servers which are in the UK."...the others seem to be working fine.
Re: Unannounced Downtime???
Because windermeer is hosted in the US (NY iirc) the box is "physically" in the US, but accessed by jolt from the UK (hosted through == managed by I guess). The outage took place in NY, affecting windermeer only. The backup serveris managed by Jolt from the UK.dan420 wrote:Fair enough explanation...so why is it that only the north american server is down
Re: Unannounced Downtime???
i see what he is Saying why use Paris time if the Servers are located in the US would it not make more sence to use the timezone the problem happened in otherwise it looks like that the problem happend there...
ex. i ate lunch a 12am Paris time
...... that would be like 2pm where i live but it reads like i ate in paris

Tryker trek
Turmoil,
There is at least a chance. If I remember right, you were on the Tryker side of the portal and had been there a minute or more when the server dumped. There's at least a chance it saved your location there next to the portal, even if it didn't save the fact you now had 2 more respawn points. If you log back in and it puts you in Tryker land, just stand there a bit to check your map and make sure you have the respawn, then step back through the portal to make sure you have the matis respawn as well.
Getting on in to a city in Tryker will be another matter. The first bit is a fairly easy swim, but then there's a not-at-all easy trek overland with lots of big-things-that-can-eat-you.
