Right now I am not high enough level to disagree, but I know several that ONE rezless death is more than half a mill in DP, and two make it a full Million. That is NOT small, and if you think that that is too little, you need some help.
I knew some people would disagree with me as I said in my post. However, how about keeping your disagreement to the issues, and leaving out the personal attacks, which are idiotic. If you think that DP is too high at higher levels, feel free to make that case without attacking me. My post didn't specifically address DP at different levels anyway, only talked about DP in general as a gameplay issue.

If you want death to be a REAL punishment, go play EQ or lineage two
. I don't think that death is meant to be a HARSH punishment to spank you into "good player" ship. It should have a sting, not be game ending.
For instance, in Lineage two, you had a rather high chance, even if you did NOT PK, of dropping some of your gear. Gear in that game was HARD to get at level and cost two to three MONTH of rabid gaming to buy (OR you could pay real money for the game cash, gm's claimed not to support it, but there were 50 pages on Ebay about it). I died to a pk and dropped EVERYTHING, was my first death in three months and first death I dropped anything, I had not attacked back either, so I should have only dropped one or two items...if at all. That was pretty much the end of the game for me, would have taken me 300 REAL dollars to buy the cash to get back into form, and ten seconds of griefing to lose it all again. I was not willing to do that.
I played Lineage 2. Eventually lost interest because of the treadmill and obscure quests, and I was basically bored. I rarely died, however, as I played carefully.
Yes, if a PK'er is able to ruin months of work in 10 seconds, I agree something is wrong with how that game is balanced. There should be much greater penalties for PK'ing, for example, and you should have the option to opt out if you like (as in WoW where there are non-PK servers). Again, none of this really is relevant to my post, which is not discussing PK, and also not discussing other games.

I think that Ryzom is trying to have death have a sting. It is HARD to get back to a hunting spot if entire group is wiped, it is hard to get back to where you were if you were traveling without ports. And your gear DOES take a beating when you die, more so than if you had lived through that encounter (I have checked/tested, same mob, same gear, MORE HP gone if you die than if you live, I guess the mobs nibble on it before you spawn.)
I was unaware of the gear thing; if that's true than I'm all in favor of it. And the whole point of my post was to state my opinion that there is NOT enough of a death "sting" in Ryzom, and I see careless gameplay all the time. I don't feel the hunting spot thing is enough. And the whole immersion factor is lost when death loses serious meaning. I'd much rather have no timer after death, have a serious DP, and let there be quests to ressurect people so that they wouldn't suffer the consequences of their death.
Again, feel free to disagree, but how about avoiding the condescending remarks.
