I believe the DP change is event related and temporary. Read Tashaki's last post about the invasion.

The karavan and Kami representatives have told us that for some time this evening, the penalty of their ressurecting homins will be lifted. They say that they cannot provide this protection through the night, but will hold out as long as they can.

I had noticed that this was on the ATS a bit back. I think now with this Stealth Buff (or would anti nerf work? *shrug* what does one call a new feature that benefits the WHOLE of the player base??), I can see world tours GROWing in popularity by leaps and bounds. And solo travel will no longer hurt like a gouged out eye.

I recall something similar to this in Earth and Beyond. You die...you spend a few days resting and POOF. OR spend a night sleeping and dig a little, or care plan for a high level digger. Now DP, even for the HIGH levels is not as severe, as the amount lost per hour (on line OR off) goes up with the total DP/highest level of player.

I was looking forward to this going live with great anticipation. And I think this has something to do with PVP and some rude strategies I have seen in other games (drag a pile of agro mobs over hunting group in non PVP area to gain that camp for YOUR group). I hate to say this, but I have seen this rudeness on OUR server and would actually PK such players, which is saying ALOT since I tend to the rabid anti PVP side.

No -- what Takashi meant was the fact that when you died during the event last night, you acquired no death penalty at all.

The slow loss of DP over time is something different. It's a new feature of the game.

I noticed this too today. I have a screenshot, showing I lost about 1375 dp in 2-3 minutes.

And if I may be so rude, what is your highest level. Right now I am not high enough level to disagree, but I know several that ONE rezless death is more than half a mill in DP, and two make it a full Million. That is NOT small, and if you think that that is too little, you need some help.

If you want death to be a REAL punishment, go play EQ or lineage two
. I don't think that death is meant to be a HARSH punishment to spank you into "good player" ship. It should have a sting, not be game ending.

For instance, in Lineage two, you had a rather high chance, even if you did NOT PK, of dropping some of your gear. Gear in that game was HARD to get at level and cost two to three MONTH of rabid gaming to buy (OR you could pay real money for the game cash, gm's claimed not to support it, but there were 50 pages on Ebay about it). I died to a pk and dropped EVERYTHING, was my first death in three months and first death I dropped anything, I had not attacked back either, so I should have only dropped one or two items...if at all. That was pretty much the end of the game for me, would have taken me 300 REAL dollars to buy the cash to get back into form, and ten seconds of griefing to lose it all again. I was not willing to do that.

I think that Ryzom is trying to have death have a sting. It is HARD to get back to a hunting spot if entire group is wiped, it is hard to get back to where you were if you were traveling without ports. And your gear DOES take a beating when you die, more so than if you had lived through that encounter (I have checked/tested, same mob, same gear, MORE HP gone if you die than if you live, I guess the mobs nibble on it before you spawn.)

Having said that, I'm against this change. IMO, the death penalty in ryzom is already too low, and there is a lot of careless gameplay as a result. It hardly matters whether you are a good player or not, it seems. You will still rack up exp just as fast if you play enough hours, especially now.

I'd like to see a dp that rewards careful players, and forces you to really immerse yourself in an alternate reality where death means something.

I know many will disagree. This is just my 0.02.

I knew some people would disagree with me as I said in my post. However, how about keeping your disagreement to the issues, and leaving out the personal attacks, which are idiotic. If you think that DP is too high at higher levels, feel free to make that case without attacking me. My post didn't specifically address DP at different levels anyway, only talked about DP in general as a gameplay issue.

I played Lineage 2. Eventually lost interest because of the treadmill and obscure quests, and I was basically bored. I rarely died, however, as I played carefully.

Yes, if a PK'er is able to ruin months of work in 10 seconds, I agree something is wrong with how that game is balanced. There should be much greater penalties for PK'ing, for example, and you should have the option to opt out if you like (as in WoW where there are non-PK servers). Again, none of this really is relevant to my post, which is not discussing PK, and also not discussing other games.

I was unaware of the gear thing; if that's true than I'm all in favor of it. And the whole point of my post was to state my opinion that there is NOT enough of a death "sting" in Ryzom, and I see careless gameplay all the time. I don't feel the hunting spot thing is enough. And the whole immersion factor is lost when death loses serious meaning. I'd much rather have no timer after death, have a serious DP, and let there be quests to ressurect people so that they wouldn't suffer the consequences of their death.

Again, feel free to disagree, but how about avoiding the condescending remarks.

it is indeed small if you use your highest skill to remove it, i know a 220+ root harvester who was able to lose a full package of DP(i.e. maxed out, 10 deaths) in 2-3 hours max

I've never maxed out my dp, but 2-3 hours to me is a fairly significant amount of my time. It might equal a full day of play for me. I'm glad they made some changes to the dp. It will allow me, a player who dies occasionly, a chance to make progress, rather than spend a fair chunk of my time getting rid of dp. I've had days where I've died 3-5 times and I certainly could have used a bit of dp help.

ok, i misstated the facts a bit =)
what i'm saying is that dp gain and dp loss is scaled in such a way that, unlike suggested by the numbers, it takes only a very small amount of time extra to remove your dp as you rise in levels
