Sometimes what we believe is more important than what really is.
As the January Event first unfolded, we had initial shock and a sorting out of what we thought was going on, where it was happening, and what we should do about it.
Many came to the conclusion that there must be a Boss Mob that needed to be taken down to halt the invasion. This based on previous Events experience. Though this later would be proved incorrect, it galvinized the massive response of those in Matis.
Based on our belief, we were ready to march into hell for our glorious quest of finding and eliminating this Boss Mob. We were ready to absorb DP for no experience. We were ready to follow a leader into the mass of the invading horde. As a significant force, we made our way northward from the Knoll of Dissent zone line, probing the area.
We encountered a variety of mobs, with increasing difficulty as we kept going northward. Respawns were getting more frequent also. But our healers responded valiantly, keeping the fighters back up into the frey. The fighters and mages, trusting in the healers, responded with all out effort. Time after time, the respawns were turned back, and we continued ever northward.
We were searching for the elusive Boss Mob, and headed for the Prime Root respawn point at the same time, to provide a rallying point in case of a total wipe.
With caution, and selection, pulls were made to clear a path ahead. We avoided looting to minimize respawns. We searched the area ahead for signs of unusual mobs that might indicate the presence of a Boss. But so far, no indication. As we proceeded, the mobs filled in behind us. We were a moving island, in a sea of enemy.
This collection of Homin groups was acting like a unified force, with a purpose to accomplish. The future events of the game may depend on how we performed, and on what we may accomplish. We were acting to defend our land. So we thought.
With a massive respawn of Mobs, even our best efforts were overcome. One massive respawn was mega. Our efforts were also mega, but not enough this one time. And we had to respawn back in Navae to regroup, as we had only come close to the Prime Root respawn, but not reached it. Many in our force did not have this one yet.
After respawning, recovering, and getting sorted out, we headed back north, once again, determined to succeed.
Up to this point we had purpose. We had commitment. We had a BLAST! and we wanted MORE!
However, as we approached the zone line once again, our understanding of the event became clearer.
There were quest givers in the NPC camps. There were loot items to collect and turn in. Items to be claimed in exchange for tokens. And so too did the focus of our force change as well. Now it was individual and small group efforts to claim these souveniers.
It appeared that there was no Boss Mob after all. There was no need for a massive response.
The time of our initial response to the invasion was the Best of Times, but it was over. We had believed in the threat of the onslaught. We had pulled together. We had reached for glory in defying the oncoming horde, and searched for a killing blow on its elusive Boss Mob. We acted as a force to be reckoned with. For this moment, I am thankful. This was a high point of the Event, and I am glad to have been there. I am glad to have fought with so many others in this effort.
Maybe those, with better memory than this old man, can identify the names of those that pulled this group together and made it so effective and enjoyable.
I realize that the Event is far from over. There may be much more yet to be disclosed, and transpire. However, the initial response of Matis, and its visiting friends, was one I will remember. I am glad that I was there.

To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
Re: To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
The event seems really lame so far. I played for about 15 minutes. No one cares about the invasion. Everything I saw could be killed in one hit. And they just repawn a little after you kill them. I hope it gets better. At least make them be gone once they are killed. Otherwise it's pointless.

Re: To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
I can't get xp in this event. I can get dp. There is a reward system but it is extremely tedious and was one of the most mind-numbing things I've ever done. Some of the rewards are a waste of time (amps). Little things like buggy npc names added stress. After dealing with it for awhile I got frustrated and left for other areas.
When I first logged in, Mynias was shouting out in region for us to rally.. why?.. there was nothing to do but kill mobs that don't give xp and spend hours clicking to get a weapon. Bleh.. don't like complaining, but this one really has me frustrated.

Re: To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
In Fyros we had a similar experience. We gathered together about 40 of us in multiple groups and set out in search of the 'boss mobs' as per normal events. We found a few taht were similar to those seen before only they , as was stated in the last post, respawned almost as soon as we killed them. This brought much dismay and yet we were not to be discouraged. We traveled about checking some of the 'hidden' areas and portals jsut in case. Then we were ambushed. From the front of about 150m, the sides about 50m (don't know where they came from as they jsut appeared on my radar) and behind from at least 100m, they charged and wiped us out to a man/woman...
We had already learned that this was not the normal event that was to be ended by killing a set of mobs so we eventually went our seperate ways also. I was fun for the first 30 min as a group that big. So we tried smaller groups. Here we ran into the problem of the mobs ignoring hte tanks and swarming the healers. Well that makes this event one for the high end nukers that can kill from afar or a mass of fighters that can kill in one swing.
I myself bowed out of my group and tried to do what I'm best at, harvesting. This was supposed to be an option for this invasion. Oh look, a source already there. Dig, dig, dead... What the? Where did those 7 kinchers come from? They wern't on my radar or in my firld of vision to begin with...
All right, another choice, craft weapons. I can do that. Lets see, I'm here, and to get to where I get that mission I need to walk out that gate. Yes the one all the kinchers are coming through. What? Coming through? When did 5-10 kinchers come into the town? ack - dead again... *respawn*
dead again since there are still kinchers not dead in town... *respawn*
Okay... Make this quick while they are all dead in town. Run for it, made it. Whew, seems they are only concentrated around town on this side (unlike earlier when the large group went walking out another gate). Where is the mission giver? Right there in that 'outpost'. allright, I need to make 5 Q100 retch axes. Warp to my packer with my mats and craft (ugh, crafting with dp hurts), craft, craft, craft, craft, step complete. NOw warp back and make that suicide run again *sigh*
A few more deaths later (and lots of rez's from guildmates who were just starting out in this adventure) and I can finally deliver these axes. Reward? Oh thanks you for these two average tokens (what? only two for all that?) and a letter I have to run back to the city with the suicide squad and a package to deliver to another town. *sigh* Made it through the suicide squad by porting it instead of running (this is starting to get a little costly, glad there are good rewards in place) and turn over this letter. More rewards? Thank you for this stacks of 99 generic mats that can be used in anything (including some new items I had never heard of yet, like a campfire) even though it's got zero's in all it's stats and what's this, another two average tokens? This might work out after all.
Run the gauntlet one last time to deliver this package and lo and behold I get another two average tokens. Total reward, 6 tokens and stack of 99 anything mats. This is great. And to top it off, the rewards giver is right there. Let's see how this is going to go. hail and well met, my friend. Yes, I bring you 6 whole average tokens. What can I have for this? Okay... for one prime token I need tev average tokens, maybe I'd better save them up. Or for five average I get a fractin of a fame point I can already get by running smaller missions everywhere. Or for five average tokens I can have five thousand dappers. Did I mention that I could have sold one of those axes for around 10-15k, and there were 5 of them??? *sigh* Okay, lets look at what this prime token will get me once I save enough for that...
Greetings fellow Homin, I would like to know what weapon I may recieve as a reward for my efforts. Thank you, I am not much of a fighter so I'll look at your amplifiers. WHAT?!?! The cheapest one you offer as a reward is ten prime tokens? That's one hundred average tokens. To make that as a crafter, I'll have to make close to one hundred more axes. There is no way I can use up all my harvested mats I've saved for grinding, to craft (with dp) one hundred more axes. That would kill my soul...
What's that, There is another option? Oh yeah, collecting claws. I think I have a few from my earlier trip. Yes, okay, this is better. Five claws are good for five average tokens. Huh, I guess the fighters have to have it easy *shug*
Here you are... I'd like to exchange these 94 claws in for... what? You only take five at a time? Why? Oh, it's a yubo secret... *trade* *talk* *trade* *talk* etc, etc, etc... and at last I've got enough for the coveted amplifier...
I'd like to exchange these 100 average tokens in for 10 pri... what? You too? Are there even any yubo's around here? *looks under foot*
Here we go again *trade* *talk* *trade* *talk* etc, etc, etc, less this time... *sigh* Thank you and on to you my friend. I bring you these ten prime tokens to show you what great deeds I've done (and hassles I've been through). Please allow me to try on my new amplifier. Is there some sort of mistake? This is only Q50... Oh, so the higher priced ones are higher in Quality... makes sense. Let's see waht this baby will do... Um... Uh... Wait?!? This isn't a special amplifier, it's a BASIC amp of speed, and the speed (and power) are only an additional +20%... Hello? Are you even listening to me anymore? Why have you turned your back to me?
*sigh*
So there you have it. This was my adventure with the event so far. I hope others had a lot more fun. I was one of the few in my guild to try the different options. It's a good step in the right direction, however I think it needs a lot of tweaking. Will I do anything more with the event? Probably not as I've already got about 800k dp from it and would like to jsut find a nice quiet spot and dig it off... Goodnight all...

Re: To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
I too want to voice my disappointment so far with the invasion event. The invasion was something I looked forward to for over two weeks (I think thats about right). All the while with the notion that my actions in game will have some impact. That if I don't do the work then the land and all who are in it will suffer.
So I grinded levels with the thought that the invasion would be significant. That if the kitin are not stopped then cities and lands could be lost.
Yes, the boring grind was all worth it because there would be an end. A point in time where my skills would be tested and measured and if succesful would change the world of atys forever.
So I look for the invasion. For I dare not thinking that today was it.
I imagine a kitin force of hundreds starting from a secret location in the prime roots. With there massive might spreading forth out of the prime root portals. There numbers overwhelming the outling outposts in each of the homin continents. Only to be detected and quickly reported by the bravest of homin explorers. With a similar excitment to that brought on by my first ignorant assumptions of what todays event would be I see players fighting together to stop the kitin from spreading from their first strategic strongholds. To be soon followed by a massive attempt by all players to eradicate this new and if left unchecked devastating threat.
So I wait. Please dont disillusion me. For I am content for the time being playing with the many great players I have meet and enjoy playing (grinding with) with.
PS
skylt nice writing I think that described very well my experience tonight.
kraegor your post made me laugh.

Skylt, there was one mission that we needed to do: Retake the harvest camp. Maybe that should have been your focus? A team of at least 16 homins moved along the east wall of knoll of dissent and braved packs of 6 Overlord and Power Overlord Kinchers questing towards the harvest camp, only to be wiped entirely by an Elite Warrior Kincher who brought 3 more friends and THEIR hives.
Re: To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
kraegor whats ya ingame name and ill hook ya up with something nice just for writing that lmao saga, that prity much sumed it up for me to. As high lvl mage it take ya about 5 mins to fill ya bag with claws and 2 hours or more coverting them to tokens, lucky for m i wasnt gonna fall for that amp trick, oh no i went for the living dagger. 120 prime tokens later and i now own a Q200 dagger that i cant use for about another 80 lvls or more ( tho the dagger is very nice ). So i now have a Q200 dagger and over 2 million DP, im bored since theres no true goal and i want my Dyron harvesting zone back please : )
Re: To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
Heh, apparently this event was really crappy, just like the rest of them. Yet another failure in a series of things this game does wrong. Very very disappointing.
Am i supposed to write something witty here ?

Re: To Believe, To Reach For Glory!
I as well did most of the things there is to do (i make jewelry and there were no missions to make jewelry so i was left out of the crafting missions (GRRRRR) and the easiest way to get the tokens is to..guess what...kill the elite guys that give you 40 claws and no exp and die to a lvl 150 fighter very easily.
I saved up enough in like 2 runs to get 40 prime tokens and i got a mag amp..i look at it.q200, ok can't use it yet but nice, then i get to the spell bonuses, great i get 20% to all exactly like the basic amp and so its basically worthless (im using an excellent pha q120 right now), then i get to the stat bonuses, i see that its 200 sap, ok that's good i supposed for a q200, and 200 STAMINA?!?!?! wth would i want stamina for on a MAGIC AMPLIFIER?!! Im not going to go around using stamina to smack ocyx around in a hunting group. Id rather switch that 200 stamina in for a 90% boost to all magic speed and power. But oh well, ill keep it as something interesting to have i suppose.
I am definately dissapointed...i think the devs need to actually try and play this game...get levels up to at least 100 and then start working on it again.
