A Vision Fulfilled

Although the warnings came early from Mynias the Watcher, his appraisal of the situation was stunning. As he warned quite some time ago, the kitin have indeed started their advance into our lands! They have been looming in the shadows, waiting for their opportunity to strike. We do not know at this time why they have chosen now to strike, but they are advancing as we speak. The invasion is nearly upon us.

Where the homin defenses are usually prepared before hand, we could not supply them sufficiently this time. Since the kitin are attacking all four lands right now, we can not share supplies with our allies, and so all lands are short on these necessary materials of war. This is not a task for fighters alone, we will require the efforts of the finest harvesters in the land, as well as the most dedicated crafters to supply arms and armor to our soldiers.

So whatever your profession homin, or whatever your skill, you are needed on the front lines. There are currently plans to create outposts for each profession, to help advance our cause in the defense of the lands. So gather your supplies and your tools, your armor and your weapons, and prepare to stand in triumphant defense against the invaders!

i have one question, is this a time-limited evening event like the others before or is this something bigger? in case you are not allowed to answer this question i'd appreciate if you would say so.

If this is a time-limited event, then as far as I'm concerned don't bother. Either there is a real war going on or not. An "invasion" that only lasts for a few hours is not a way to build immersion or a sense of involvement with Ryzom.

Hopefully, the above will be irrelevant, and this will be something that makes Atys a more dynamic place, EVERY TIME you play. This remains to be seen.

That's not really possible Z, and I think you know it :)

Although each server may have a number of players at most points during the day, there aren't enough people to create a genuine force against an invasion.

For example, those who play on the EE server and also have regular jobs, are generally logging off between the hours of 11PM and say 3AM at the latest. So everyone logs off at 3AM, and the kitin move in and take over our cities. This only needs to happen a few times, and people won't be able to log on in town without being killed almost straight away (by this time the guards will already be down, and respawned, and killed again, and ....)

Once again I avoid using the term 'realistic', and go instead for 'plausible'. If the game world was real, players would be fighting against this invasion 24/7, not returning to their normal jobs and ignoring the horde of 20-foot high monsters slaughtering their neighbours :) A constant invasion of mobs over several days is not plausible, and in fact is a sure fire method of scaring off the player base.

Yes, we want action, but players also need time to level their non-invasin related skills :)

Dazman,

You are correct in what you say. But you are not addressing the issue as I see it. I don't expect a "full-scale" invasion 24 hours/day with the possibility of losing cities, nor would I want such a thing. Instead, let us now see kitin raiding/scouting parties, let us see localized assaults or invasions that don't require huge numbers of players to handle. Farther away from the cities, let us begin to see a "front line", as described in the original post, where the kitin hordes are gathered. Perhaps the masses of the enemy may be held back for now by the Kami/Karavan, allowing only the lighter Kitin to get through.

Gosh, with just a little imagination they CAN make Atys much more dynamic, without the problems you identify.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that another scripted event for a few high level characters that lasts a few hours just won't make any difference as far as I'm concerned. And it wouldn't correspond to the dramatic tone of Cerest's first post.

But hey, look at it this way, she did say that they will build outposts for each class... .. . mind you outposts are not implamented yet..

Also a great way to just whipe out all the harvestors mektoubs out there in the wilderness.. yup.. works great, bam.

Get home from work and look forward to probably loosing my mektoubs, all the mats on them, and start over on rebuilding my inventory, no big deal, part of the storyline.

Lets get cracking.. kill those endless kitin.
For those who know about today, I have a supprise for you tomorrow.

This post from one of the big fans of a "dynamic" game?
