One of the things many people have mentioned about this game is the great community spirit (more so in game than here) but I have found one minor downside to this - people's expectations seem to be very high. Let me explain what I mean...
Several times now when out and about, especially in areas such as Upper Bog and Grove of Confusion, I hear people calling for a res. This is all well and good and to be expected, but then people start with "I see a blue dot on my radar, come and res me" etc. and then start insulting said "blue dot" if they don't immediately rush out to help.
Now, I like to help people as much as anyone else, and I have certainly benefited from people going out of their way to help me, and I have gone out of my way to help others. The issue seems to be now that people expect you to drop whatever you're doing and go to their aid. I have even seen cases where people have, once finding there is another player in the area, decided to experiment with fighting bigger mobs knowing they can call on you for a res.
Call me a bit of a Scrooge maybe, but all I'm saying is that by all means ask for a res, but don't expect the other person to always drop whatever they are doing and rush to your aid. It's great that people will go out of their way to help, but let's remember that such co-operation is a rare treat in the world of MMOG communties and should be treated as such rather than as just another part of the service.

Re: One downside of a great community
A very valid point, I would like to add a couple of things though, When someone asks for a rez, please be patient, the "blue dot" maybe trying to get to you but there are aggro mobs (or the perpetrator of your demise ), in the way and it benefits no body if your prospective rezzer gets chomped. Also....they may not have "Heal".
For the more recent people that join, don't be afraid of DP, revel in the "low" DP that you have, as you get to higher levels, your DP is measured in millions! It is not too hard to work off your DP and think of it as a sort of learning curve type of thing, expect to die and just hope that you are dying in good company
My two cents....

I would also like to add
if you have 1200 mobs on your dont ask for a rez.. you and your rezzer will die again
plz tell them that you had a lot of aggro

Re: One downside of a great community
I only once asked for a rez in region chat. Happend when <person> accidentially was running away from an aggro. And not noticing me, right past me, and it decide a harvester tasted better.
Luckyly someone was close by and saved the day, and <person> did apologise.
Concerning rez in main city areas, I will rez anyone who are new and reasonable close by. Most of all because the have yet to get their berring in the new area, contra how it worked on the island.
Sure they could work off their DPs fast, but a rez and friendly advice (if they want it, mind you), is what my char is like.
Some of you out there might remember my rez day in Fair Haven, were I had to warn people when I was away
Everywhere else, it really depends on location and the dangers in the area.

My 2cts here is that when a question for rezzing is posted in region, it just doesnt hurt to type the questionmark...

Of course, another point of rezzing etiquette...
If you ask for a res on Region and then get one, it'd be nice to let people know. I've gone hunting for people who asked for a res, asked where they are only to be told "oh, I already got one thanks".

Re: One downside of a great community
Good thread.
I've noticed a lot of new folk around lately and while some die and respawn without pausing (used to other unfriendly MOLRPGs perhaps?) others just lay about asking for rez. It is amusing and fun actually, to a point.
I think the current high 'immigration' into this friendly community has indeed created some spoilt dirt biters
I think a bit of role playing coming on, standing over the odd corpse and laughing for example. "You're not in the Grand Alliance, ha ha haaargh."

usually if people ask for a res its because they got "killed" if its to agro and someone resses them then those 2 people still have agro to fight surely its safer for them to try staying alive than to drop everything and shout hey its ok im alive but now while im typing this sentance the gingo has chewed my other leg off so can you come find me and the guy who resed me? as were both dead now

We at The Samsara have toyed with the idea in the past of charging a rez fee. Perhaps we should rekindle this practise...
