Weapon Specializations: Contest!

Post by perrako »

Looking at the weapons as they are, I've noticed some... staleness if you will. There is little specialization between them besides 3 different stanzas and skill branches. Two two-handed weapons will do the same max damage at quality X. I talked over this with Mindadar and we decided to have a forum topic about this. After more deliberation, I decided on a contest. The winners will have these ideas sent to the devs with higher priority than a normal suggestion.

So, here are the rules: You can submit as many suggestions as you want but at the end of the week long submission period you will choose one for each category for the final judging. There will be four judges: Mindadar and I are the only two so far but I am approaching two more. The judgings will be based on four things:
Creativity: Based on how creative the judge thinks the ability/change would be. Max 10 points.
Balance: How balanced it is. If it smacks someone for 1050 damage at level 5, you might want to rethink it. Also, balance issues should be taken into consideration: Does it allow for easily spotted exploits just from the design itself? Max 10 points.
Practicality: How practical in game it would be. For example, if it summons a floating suckling yubo with a green mohawk that steals 2 health from it, it's not so good. However, if it augments your power for 5 seconds, it's better. Max 5 points.
Tilt: Let's the judge push it one way or another based on what they think of the idea in general. Max 5 points.

You get a maximum of 30 points from each judge. Whoever has the most points totalled from all the judges wins.
The categories are:

1 Handed Maces
1 Handed Axes
1 Handed Lances
2 Handed Swords
2 Handed Maces
2 Handed Axes
2 Handed Pikes
Staffs
Pistols
Rifles
Bowrifles
Fist Combat

(1 Handed Swords excluded for their Sword+Dagger capabilities. Daggers excluded for their wholly different style of play)

Your submissions should be either stanzas or changes in stats in general.
Submissions start now!

Hey all,
Assume that per stanza/skill/action/whatever that the animation you wish will also be included. This means, no animation changes for already in-game actions, please. Good luck :)

I am assuming the massive responses will come in after all the annoying bugs, very old and new, are gone... but I could be wrong. This is about as important as an MP3 player... Oops, sorry they already made one of them...

Personally I think this would add a lot to game play and actually give a reason to pick the weapon you do at higher levels.. no reason a Heavy-Axeman should be the exact same as a Heavy-Swordsman with a different looking weapon. And no reason currently to pick a 1h axe over 1h sword after 150.. you can dual-wield the sword but not the axe and they have the exact same stats. It's something I've wanted for a long time.. I'm just trying to figure out what exactly to post as far as stanzas.

You can't dual wield swords...

I have more heart than anyone would know :) I will let you in on a little secret... I am doing this for my newborn daughter... no one else... I like that game, but I do not have the time anymore. My first priority is to my daughter. End of story.

I'll give a couple of examples to get the brain juices flowing:
Pikes: Javelin Stanza: Lets you throw a pike from 20m. Large downtime as you have to run in and get the pike (automatic). Increase Damage and Accurate Attack can be applied.

Lances: Double Jab: You hit the enemy twice. Not too sure where to go from this out of balance issues.

not to be negative and threadcrap, but I'm going to partially side with DT I think. There has been a lot of threads where people have suggested and discussed adding/changing various things to the different weapons to make more variety and in some cases just to make them viable... but they have all gone rather unnoticed it seems.

so here you go, here's one of mine

edit: and not that they are all that useful... but you forgot launchers and autolaunchers when you listed the various ranged weapons. Granted they are utterly useless in their current state, but they are different enough from each other and from rifles/pistols/bowrifles that they should be included.
edit2: bowpistols were also forgotten

1 Handed Axes: Throwing Axe stanza. Lets you throw the axes 30-50 meters, depending on Stanza Level. Damage stays the same, but accuracy is lowered. Accuracy increase as Stanza lvl increase also. So at Lvl 150 or so. You can pretty much throw these babies at anything and hit 90% of the time.

Dual wield Stanza: Let's you dual wield. Accuracy suffers as well as defense. Your Parry and Dodge is lowered dramatically as you are a little off balance with the two. Both Accuracy and defense can be increased through Stanza levels.

Dual wield and Throwing axe Stanza. A combination of the two. This would be a lvl 200 or so thing though. Very powerful for those that put in the hard effort of leveling this.

1 Handed Swords: Dual Wield Stanza. Accuracy and defense suffer greatly. You are unbalanced a lot more than axes as these are bigger/longer.

2 Handed Swords: Thrust Stanza: ability to do a PIERCING attack with a sword... don't know why this wasn't possible before hand...

Staffs: Increase the dmg on this baby. Or kill it. Other than Enchantments, completely useless.

All Melee weapons: Critical Hit Stanza: Increases the chance of a critical hit. Also maybe a Kamikaze DEATH STRIKE stanza with Blade type weapons: Ultra damage (x4 damage, ignore armor), 100% accuracy, but you die.

Pistols: Dual wield! Enough said.
Pistol whip Stanza: Hit a mob with the butt of your pistol when you run out of ammo.

Rifles: Sniper stanza! 100M hit, rate of fire decrease of course but damage is high and very very accurate.

Not to disourage Perrako or anyone else from suggestions to further enhance gameplay.. but this pretty much sums up how I feel.
