Hello,
First of all, I play on the Euro English community but am posting this here on the hope that more people might read it and be able to help me out.
I have read the rules regarding multiple posting, below, but I am only posting in two places, and hope this is ok.
* You may not make multiple postings about the same subject in order to gain attention.
If you disagree with me please disregard my post
My main character is now low 30s Fight and 22 Offensive magic, I have travelled to the mainland, and I am loving the game! A lot
That said, I am still none the wiser regarding stanzas.
I have read the manual, and any guide on the net I can find. They each use the same example from the manual and devote a whole <amazed look on face> half a page or something to the explanation of the action system/stanzas lol, and for me, my friend and my bro, it's not good enough.
I am still really confused. I can solo easily and get around 1700xp for fight xp and around 700 magic xp at the moment on the Zora mainland, and I do not believe I have used 1 stanza yet, though I could be wrong. I certainly havent made a new action thats worth while hehe. The only one I made was the one with the acid bolt from the manual's example.
Would anyone be kind enough to explain in detail how to use stanzas to useful effect? When I will realistically start to run into needing to use them? Some decent examples of fight/magic/craft/harvest actions made using stanzas? Even a link to a guide worth a dapper would be helpful and not just the copy and paste ones I have found
I understand the Action and Credit I think, action is a positive stat to the action, and credit is the tradeoff negative stat to the action, but at this time I don't know how to create a new action worth anything, and what is and isnt a stanza when I click on my trainers.
I hope you guys and gals can make heads or tails of what I'm saying. I feel that I am running around in a fog of war with 75% of the games beauty (Modular Action thingy) hidden from me and can't see me working it out any time soon.
Like I say, at the moment I solo with acid and fear, the standard ones I bought, or just using the extra damage mellee skill I also bought, but would love to be able to understand the Modular Action system and stanzas.
Thanks and have a great day

Re: Need serious help regarding stanzas :)
First off, welcome to the New Lands. I hope your stay is enjoyable.
You seem to be a bit confused as to what a "stanza" actually is...
The Increase Damage, Acid and Fear actions/spells all have stanzas in them. If you click on an empty box in your hands toolbar you will get the New Action option. Clicking this brings up the Create New Action window. Below the spots for the Name and Icon is the Composition for the New Action. First, you have to choose a Root. Say, for example, you choose Default Attack Fight Stanza (this is a stanza). Now, selecting Add Option will bring up a list (these are all stanzas). For the example, you choose the Increase Damage Option (your second stanza) which will use 5 credit (displayed by the +5). As you said, you know that you need to add a credit option with Add Credit to balance this out. So, once you type in a name, you have a New Action that uses two stanzas.
As for how to mix and match stanzas and credits to be effective, that is really up to your play style. At your levels I usually soloed, so I had actions to reflect this. My default attack used Increase Damage and Accurate Attack Options with HP and Stamina credit about equal (to reduce downtime between killing sprees). Next to that I had an action with Increase Damage, Accurate Attack and Bleeding Options (This was very credit heavy, but I used it as my first or second attack and the extra damage really helped. Also, Bleeding is for slashing only, piercing uses Ingore Armor and smashing is Slow). Additionally, I had an action identical to my default attack, but the credit on it was Opening After Parry (reduced overall downtime if I was lucky enough to parry).
For magic, I had a long range spell with Credit Casting Time and a mix of HP and Sap Credits (this was to "pull" the creature), and a close range spell with Credit Range and a mix of HP and Sap Credits (this was to kill it quickly once the creature was right next to me doing damage).
I hope that helped clear things up a bit. Also, right-clicking on skills in the Action Progression window and right-clicking on the stanzas that show up in the Indentification Window will help you figure out what everything does. Good luck.

Re: Need serious help regarding stanzas :)
That helps a great deal!
When you say hp credit, do you mean using the ability lowers your hp?
Aside from that what you say makes sense and clears things up a great deal for me
Thanks a lot for the advice its very much appreciated.
One last thing I would like to ask is, is it better to make different characters for the various different things you can do in the game? Ie: have a fighter / harvester or harvester / crafter, and a mage / healer as seperate characters, or can I reliably do all of it in one character?
The main website makes a point of saying you can do everything with one character but the more I understand the game it seems to excell in all areas you have to have different characters.
Anyway, thanks again for your help and have a great day

Yes. You can see the credits you can get by looking under the Upgrade tab of the Action Progression window. The first HP Credit is available at level 10 Fight. Here is a screenshot of my Edit Action window http://thesaga.webspace4free.biz/editaction.JPG (it doesn't want to link, so you are going to have to Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V into your address bar).

Again, this is a personal choice. I find that all of the skills meld very well together, so I have one character that does it all. Another factor to this decision will be time, and how much you are willing to spend on different characters. I find that to specialize in certain areas you need to have a diverse skill base to work from. This is especially true of skill points. I level ranged fighting for extra SP to spend on HP and stamina so that the skill points I gain from melee can go into better abilities. Same for magics, craftings and foragings.

Re: Need serious help regarding stanzas :)
I tried to throw a few examples together on my site, maybe that will help some as well.

Yep it does help. Putting the examples to actual in game shots helps a lot
I think I have my head around it now. Just have to get some levels and start making some nice spells and abilities
Thankyou
