New Player tips please :) (Updated 16:10)

Post by jonhop »

Hello,

I started playing on the 14 day trial last night, and thought I would pop on the forums and say hi, and maybe get some advice.

I played a few days in beta and thought the game quite fun, but since that I have played WoW and EQ2 and am getting fed up of mmorpg's, so I thought I would try the new game, the underdog from what I can see, and hopefully have some fun in an mmo again :)

Anyway. So I played a few hours last night, and boosted health and magic points, and got a new healing spell. I don't really know what i'm doing yet though and wondered if there was any good advice people can give me.

I died many times, but finally by the time I logged out managed to kill many Suckling Yubos without dieing lol.

A few things I am unsure about if someone could answer please;

a) How do you see what exp you have and how do you know your level?
b) How and when do you leave the newbie area, I believe is an island.. Although I am very weak and theres lots to kill the area seems empty except for 4 or 5 people
c) Is there any kind of PVP I should be aware of? Don't wanna be getting killed by players while fighting hehe
d) Is there any newbie guides anywhere?

Thanks a lot, and see you all in the game :)

Biff.

Hiya

a) You hit A in game and an actions screen will pop up. For each skill tree you can see your current level and then a white bar showing how close you are to the next level.

b) The starting islands are very empty, I'd suggest getting fight and magic skills up to lvl 30 before leaving. Ideally get harvest and craft to 20 also if you plan on doing alot of that. Stuff on mainland is *alot* harder than the hardest thing on the islands. So you should be able to kill the hardest thing on the island before you leave if you want to be able to fight and not die in mainland.

c) There are designated PvP areas after the patch today. They are high level areas in the Prime Roots areas mainly and are hard to get to with all the mobs anyways so I dont think you need too worry about wandering into them - im sure you'll be killed my mobs before getting close. But just learn on the map where PR is.

d) There are newbie guides on the forum under the player made guides section at the bottom of the forum.

Hope that helps :)

If you push a you will see the differnt disiplins you can see your advancment this way

b) How and when do you leave the newbie area, I believe is an island.. Although I am very weak and theres lots to kill the area seems empty except for 4 or 5 people

D'ont leave until you get to level 30 in fight or magic aria. This means you will be abel to survive in the big world.

c) Is there any kind of PVP I should be aware of? Don't wanna be getting killed by players while fighting hehe

d) Is there any newbie guides anywhere?
If you scrol a bit lower you will finde guids and more. But the best thing is to /tell and ask somboddy. If you want to call me: /tell azal <insert what you want to ask here>

Azal is my in character name

I hope this helps a bit. I'm sure you will finde menny ppl willing to help you. You just nead to get to level 30 and then you will whitnes the true "magic" of the game.

Hello again,

Thanks for the replies I sure am glad of the advice :)

I am reading through the manual and it all looks really new and exiting compared to other mmorpgs, I might actually have some fun!

Full collision detection, artillery style weapons, creature raids in the hundreds! Wow!

Just the normal mmo stuff I am doing of killing using spells and basic hand to hand is fun at the moment. Can't wait to witness this "magic" of the game :)

One last question I need to ask which I think is the most important but is not listed in the manual, is how do I know which equipment is suited to my character? I gather from the replies that you do not have an actual character level, but how do I know when to get new armour or a new weapon?

Thanks :)

lol its half of it m8 you can actualy "adapt" yor skill to yor neads. Ammo 4 a wepon is not 1 kinde of ammo you have a zillion ways to make bether ammo 4 different uses. The same gows 4 armor. If you need sap armor as a mage or stamina armor or focus armor 4 crafter's or eaven hp armor. µ

This is a custem game m8

You want to be a mage/crafter/fighter/range wepon user. You can m8 it will take longer but its ever cainging.

In other mmo's you neded to make several characters to craft/use magic/fight well here you can do this with 1 character...

Light armor: No limits
Heavy and med. armor: Your constitution + 10
Melee weps: Your strengt + 10
Magic amp.: Your intelligence + 10

Best weps and armor is made from choice or above mats from players.

I had a long chat with a 'newbie' awhile back, while they were still in the starter isle. :P

First they slapped me for calling newbie land :o

They prefered the term - lvl challanged :D

Their fears we as follows:

Q: Is the main land just a larger version of the starter land?
A: No way, its huge and full of very different things

Q: Will the mobs just be larger version of the ones on starter land?
A: Yes and No.... Yes the ones on the mainland are bigger versions of the same mobs, but there are 100's of different ones. (There are also areas with mobs the same as newbie land, in case you jump too early)

Q: Will anyone want my ql30 jewelery?
A: probably not, most of the new arrivals rush to the shops for the ql100 ones, however with help you will be making ql100+ of your own.

Q: Will I be all alone, is it quiet on the mainland?
A: In some areas yes, in others no. Don't expect to see a hundred players in a single region, the main land is huge and large groups only tend to gather for events.

Q: Is there much to do?
A: Depends on you, there is in someways too much to do! Too many choices! You can be everything and anything. 80% of this game is about what you want to achive and how you go about it. Power level and you may burn out very fast, because you will have missed the point. Level is unimportant, the experience/journey is what matters.

I won't mention who I had this little chat with....... All I know is I told them the truth and let them decide. When they arrived, they were not disappointed!

Ryzom is an emotional roller coaster ... somedays, nah everyday, you can't put it down! Other times it feels like you worlds ended :(

Hang in there during the rough times, a wrong stanzia purchase can easily be overcome with help from friend.

I have yet to find a way to 'mess up' a character and boy have I made some wrong choices with stanzia purchase.

I just when through a nasty time lvl 58-61 fight ..... where low lvl mobs gave next to no XP and the high lvl ones I could hit. With the help of our guild champions, I was able to get these 3 levels and it made all the difference. Accuracy is as imporant, if not more the damage.

*Stops rambling, goes back to thinking of Mel*
