Walls? Towers? Defenses, anybody?

While swimming about in Lakeland, I came across some outposts and even apparently ruined ones. What strikes me as odd, though, is that they seem pretty much useless as anything other than a landmark to regroup at.

No walls, no towers, no mentionable defenses.

We need walled outposts with gates and towers! I understand the Tryker cities have a natural defense of water, but the outposts are just easy targets without even a presentable fence – they couldn’t keep a cow out of them!

I knew I’d be able to use that statement from “The Thirteenth Warrior” someday…

The outposts will be implemented in the future so they say.

Then what are those weird tower/buildings and ruins scattered about? They look like the barracks from “Giants” – makes me want to blow them up to keep the bugs from coming out (that what they did in that game).

Outpost are not in game yet, those ruins are future location for outpost. I suppose they were outpost destroyed by the kittins, and they are going to be rebuild with patch2.

I believe that in future it may be possible for a guild to occupy an outpost ruin and rebuild it. There would, I assume, some advantages for doing so and I think they will likely be areas for guild vs guild combats. ie the bigger the guild maybe the more outposts they can rebuild and defend from other guilds and critters.

This is my impression from early discussions/promotional type stuff pre-game release. Although it could be my foggy memory and creative imagination.

I think you're right Turke, i hope we will be able to occupy them as a Guild later in the game :)
