The skills are independant. After years designing lovely light armors in beautiful colors, you can try a bit of fight against weanling and pissing yubos, without restriction.
You just have to be careful in choosing the stanzas in each skill tree : information on each stanza is rather brief so a little bit of thinking is really necessary before spending your skill points.
