Guild jumpers
Guild jumpers
... would it be possible to have something put in game to place a delay on people jumping from one guild to another? Almost every other game has this since most guilds have players that only join other guilds just to get the skinny on what they are doing, and then jump ship back to the original guild. This is going to be a major problem when we can actually have guild warfare. I suggest at least a weeks work of waiting to join another guild after leaving one. Anyone else?
Re: Guild jumpers
Guild jumping you say. HMMMMM that sound very interesting. Spys, everywhere huh? Yes, I see. Dont trust anyone is that right? And what guld are you from huh? Ive never seen you around here before. When did you start playing this game? Oh yeah well whats the capital of Fryos? When did you get off the island? I know your game your from EQ2 aren't you? THATS IT YOUR DEAD MEAT! FEED HIM TO THE CLOPPERS!

Re: Guild jumpers
LMAO that gave me a funny image. As for guild hopping, it's up to the guild leader / officers to decide whether or not they recruit indiscriminately. In Seers I don't really care about recruiting just anyone because we're a peaceful group of harvesters and there's not much you could take from us. Grouping with us is the only way you're giong to learn mats and most of us are happy to have someone, ANY one with us harvesting, both to chat and to rez.
In the Seeds of Chaos however, I prefer to group with someone for a while before I invite them or suggest them to the clan leaders. Lots of nice people, we're discerning.

Re: Guild jumpers
There is no substitute for a careful screening process and alert, capable leadership. The most likely scenario is not that someone will join with their main char to spy. A more likely one is that they would join a rival guild with an alt, so one way for a guild to protect themselves from spies is to have entry requirements include skill levels - have someone joining your guild as a fighter prove he/she can solo a level 100 mob, or something like that.
Many guilds also use an interview process and a trial period as part of their screening. During the trial period, the recruit hunts with the guild, and spends time talking with the members, giving everyone a chance to see how the recruit will fit in... or not.
A reasonable trial period for a PvP guild might be two weeks or more... that kind of takes care of the delay you are asking for, and it's up to the guild leadership if they want to be that careful recruiting.
Game mechanics won't really solve the problem of guild spies; only the guild leaders and officers can do that, if they are willing to put in the effort and the time to screen recruits.

Re: Guild jumpers
Just have to be careful and not recruit any warm body one comes across...
Guild jumpers are easy to weed out if the guild members know each other well.

Am i supposed to write something witty here ?
Re: Guild jumpers
I actually have a problem with guilding with trial period users who eventually log off and don't bother to post a message or tell anyone they are never playing again. this again requires screening, and since they are just deadweight we kick em out after a while.
edit: not that I don't think they should be able to guild...it may actually convince more people to stay when they have a community to help them. So it's a good thing.

Re: Guild jumpers
Well my guild uses voice chat. Only leaders and officers there commited to the guild.
So we don't type much of whats going on in guild chat. When we do type stuff its misc and not important.
So anyone who wants to hop into guild will not learn anything important. We just tell them an event is comming up be here or whatever.
We do answer questions help out our members. We don't outfit them but we teach them how to hunt and bring them along on hunts. So they can level. Unless its left over junk we don't give them anything.
If they been with guild for awhile and I mean awhile. Then they may move up in the ranks. They have to show a real commitment not only too the guild but too guild mates. Taking them hunting etc. Trying to help.

Re: Guild jumpers
I don't see a problem with guild jumpers. If people want to steal our information, let them. If they feel they need it that bad, and are too afraid to ask so be it. Everything we know we share for free anyway. We are known to be a noob friendly guild. That said on more than one occasion we have had a person leave the guild after a short time because they found a guild that suited them better, had RL friends in it or formed their own with friends. Great, they are what we call allies now. Most we still have regular contact with and good relations. I would hate to have made them wait a week or two to join their friends.
Now that said there are people we would not invite to the guild as we know how they play the game, and their play style does not fit well with our guild. I agree with what has already been said about the responsibility of the leaders and officers on recruiting. I also agree there will be some of this no matter what preventative measures are taken. Heck even in a recruitment interview a person can *shivers* lie.
What I have done in the past is when I know a player has jumped ship (guild hopped) I pass that persons name on to our ally guilds. If they choose to accept them as a member it is their risk. I have also had names passed on to me from allies and had to turn recruits down.
Good luck and if they really bother you, post the names of known spies here, that should slow them down a bit.

Re: Guild jumpers
I dont see a need for a timelimit between guild changes to b implimented. Resently my guild merged with another and if we had, had that time limit before we changed it would have been a huge hassle. Spys are part of the game in war so no biggy there if your worried about it just remeber you could do the exact same thing to the other side. Now as for my packers ..i never trust them always giving me funny looks!

Re: Guild jumpers
Yesss. Its all part of the game. And, right now I have your packer tied up in my guild hall. So if you don't tell us what we want to know the packer gets it! Start talkin! Where do you get your forage!
Whats the best route! And, How the heck do we get out of the dammed guild hall!
