If you want people to leave, just shut the servers down.

Post by ptooie »

A very wise person said that to me about 5 minutes into this new,so-called patch.
The comment was made in reference to the packer locale changes.
Really, do any of you want to spend yer limited gaming time doin inventory management, or would you rather be out smeckin an nukin an digging an craftin?
Do we really need more mind-numbing boredom at this point?

Oh wait ! They are implementing hair-cuts...I'll throw a freekin party.

The things they randomly subject us (the paying custormer) to blows my mind.
Every month now I git a bill in my Inbox and a bendin over {Dun you mind the sand in the Vaseline either, boy.} in the game.

Sure every patch takes some adjusting to, but there always one thing they do that just becomes a HUGE timesink.I daresay this packer thingie is the biggest yet.

It made me think of all the things they have "tweeked" since SoR's release, and all the friends that have left each time and about the high turnover rate in population.Yes I know there are a few hardcores out there(we kin smell our own).

This company is developin a rep for changing the rules in the middle of the game, slow addition of content, and general disregard for the truth.
Go back and read the notes fer all the patches and see what actually changed(if anything). There are so many outright lies and misdirections I bet a lawyer writes em.

Anyhoo I really like this game, but they seem determined to drive off every last customer they can with petty little annoyances.

Stop sucking the fun out of a nice game wit tons o potential, and if you want people to leave, just shut the servers down.
Don't slowly bury us in mektoub poo and drive us out.

Here, here, I agree!!! I used to be able to use my pack animals as if it wer a bank, but now we cant.. We cant access our apartments from other ditys, but we could access our pack animals, But now we cant even access those from another city. We can own upto three animals, that was good, but whats the need of an aparment and a pack animal if you cant access on or the other from other cities??

I pretty much agree with the above post. In concept, it makes sense that you can only get to your packers from their home stables. But wait ... you can still craft from items in those far away stables? That makes no sense then. But wait ... You can carry around a billion dapper with no penalty? That makes no sense. But wait ... I have a whole big apartment that can hold less than 2 bags of stuff? That makes no sense.

So I recommend skipping the effort at trying to make the inventory system "realistic" and just let players play the game. I may decide to tolerate packers this way, I may just give up on the game, I'm not sure yet. You should even increase the bag size, or make it related to player str. Total capacity available should be increased also. Put in features to help the players instead of nerfing everything.

There are other MMOs with a reputation for making you go through mind numbing grinding to accomplish things. So far I haven't found Ryzom to be a grind, but rather fun. But spending 30 minutes harvesting, then having to port to stables, port to a harvesting loc and potentially make a lethal run to get back to the harvest is not my idea of fun.

These changes make no sense especially when there is no consideration taken to be fair to the players. Ok I understand its realistic to be able to only put things on your packers where they are located. However, why limit us to three packers. If I like to harvest in all four lands why cant I have numerous packers at those locations?. Why did they take our ability to heal our packers away when they were gonna limited to locational use and pitiful bulk? As packers are right now I have to stop and let mine regen if an agro decides to sneak up behind me and attack my packer before I can taunt then kill it. Mobility is not an option it will only get them killed. I therefore want more packers than three. Gimme more packers Nevrax...plz o_O

I agree. There are no banks, there isn't a way to truly manage my inventory needs. It's just not an aspect of the game I want to mess with. Packers are pathetic in terms of durability. It's not like they can stand up to argo or anything. There are so many more important things that need to be done in the game. It's not like packers hold that much anyway.

i agree with alot that was said.

is for the whole "its realistic" argument... i dunno about you but i don't play games for their realism. i play them cause they are fun.

in the realm of atys you can TELEPORT! so why wouldn't the stable boy be able to teleport items to the stable your packer is in so they can be added to your mektoub. it would be nice if they kept the ability but perhaps made a small fee required for each item teleported.

of course, this is not really that big of a thing. i can learn to live with it. but its more about what else might be changed to make it "more realistic".

your packer lives long enough for you to turn around when an aggro looks at it funny?!

Long long ago during the first open beta, there was AOE heals... and they were mostly good, but strange in that if you were inside a town you could heal yourself with them... but outside of a town they would not effect you. Since this was incredibly strange behaviour, a bug report went out and a few days later AOE heals would heal the caster along with everyone else in the area when the bounce/reflect kicked in. Things were good and people were happy. Healers wandered with a mektoub to heal themselves and often even used one for AOE heals in groups since it was never going to run away from them. After all... it's very annoying to almost kill yourself cause joe ran off to loot and you missed a couple aoe heal reflects.

During this time folks saw that Self magic was amazingly uber because of the fact that it didn't need the mektoub, but also amazingly annoying to level without a psudo exploit. Self magic was nerfed and mages were annoyed that they could no longer convert hp>sap and sap>hp efficiently like before, and were later annoyed again when it was removed. Certain incredibly vocal fighters cheered at the mage nerfs rather than spending more effort in getting the then largely useless fight trees fixed.

Mages were again nerfed a few times and fighters brought up quite a bit... mages all said "uhh... wtf?!!!!" one day when they got nerfed again and found themselves unplayable, and then they were brought up again. Somewhere in this time, the AOE reflect and ability to heal yourself by bouncing it off a mektoub/other person was removed... along with several other things such as the cost of vamp bricks being raised from 20% or so of what you get back, to 100% of what you get back.

So now we have the situation where healers have no spells that they can heal themselves with, no spells they can inflict damage with unless they level elemental up to where they can actually land those now rather utterly useless vamp bricks, and no spells they can use to defend themselves with.

so now you know why packers can't be cast on :P

I think the banking issue is relatively EASY to solve...add a bank, just like every other game. Of course they all have minor to MAJOR annoyances about banking. Limits in numbers of slots for gear, and some even have a limit to the cash you could bank (in games where the cash weights something...this REALLY matters).

My trouble is...I don't know how to move the packer. I SURELLY am not going to even TRY to get it to the portals by WALKING it. It took me three tries to get there to get the spawn spot.

If anyone has any ideas or info I don't know about these beasts....please do share.

I'm a packrat and the game isn't very friendly to our kind. I have a set of Fyris light armor in every color with hp (both pants and caster pants), 2 different color sets of Fyros light with focus, 2 sets of heavy, many various weapons and amps, a set of hp and a set of focus jewelry, and mats of all different types. I used to have medium armor but sold it for the 35 bulk it was taking up. I make heavy armor and it takes 128 mats to make one set, so i can barely hold what i need to be able to make custom orders of different colors and stats. I also dabble in melee crafting, jewelry, shields, and barely ammo. May the Kami (lol thats japanese for God... coincidence?) forbid i try to make and/or wear items from a different race because all my packers are full as well as my apartment. One mule has 3 full packers of misc mats and another has 2 packers full.

If I wasn't already annoyed about the low bulk of packers, this change would do it for me. Looks like i'll be spending more time logging in and loading the game than playing. My 4 mule characters (what else would i use 5 slots for when 1 can do everything) will be more efficient now for transfering of items through the vendors than spending/wasting precious dappers on tickets travelling back and forth.

That takes care of mats, guess everytime i go from foraging to fight and from casting to tanking, i'll have to port just to change clothes.

At least you guys can play. Looks like I'm out of the game. Following the patch, I can no longer even log in. I've rebooted, reset, reinstalled and reconfigured until I think I've worn out my keyboard and my fingers have gone numb. I'm out of options. :(

<sigh> Well, it was fun while it lasted.
