so now am i not only going to have to watch out for patrols and othere agro creatures on the prime roots but i am also going to have to consider every blue dot that shows on my radar as a potential enemy and death?
the prime root areas are some of the best places to get high quality mats and now we are going to be easy targets for any warrior that decides to "have some fun" as it were.
i am all for PvP. heck, thats how the waverton brawlers got its name. and arenas are fine but turning a whole region that right now only foragers are willing to frequent for the best mats into a bloody free for all is just freaking insane!
its like walking into a mall and saying "ok, this is now i fight-to-the-death arena. as long as you remain in the mall you MUST participate.". assuming they took you seriously you know every person would find the nearest exit quick.
so no toys for you this christmas timmy. cause i just know some shotgun toting punk would decide to visit the mall at the same time looking for some target practice.
in case you don't get that last one: prime root mats are the toys and the shotgun toting punk represents immature griefers that use PvP and anonymity of the internet as an excuse to be an @hole.
sorry if i seem mad but i get the feeling that the devs keep coming up with bigger and better things to shove into the rectal cavities of us foragers.
i really hope they never allow looting in PvP otherewise the common forager would be hunted more than the creatures around us cause "they drop better mats". pleh....
i know alot (if not all) of the current players are better than resorting to such things for entertainment but there will be new players no doubt.
sorry, cerest if i crossed a line in there somewhere but this is a REALLY bad idea.
once again i am not against PvP and arena combat but do not turn a place where only foragers frequent into a griefers paradise. as it was said in another post these places quickly become devoid of all player based life. in the end it would just bar foragers, like myself, from doing what we do best.
is free or all PvP in the prime roots gunna kill PR foraging? bit of a rant... srry

Well they are looking for feedback about this sort of thing from testers. If you are on the ATS then please test it, and give them your opinion about the changes on the ATS forums. Keep in mind that nothing is in concrete yet.

Re: is free or all PvP in the prime roots gunna kill PR foraging?
I will quit if PR goes open PvP. I'm not playing an all out PVP game now, so why would I want to play one? I have many other options for mmorpgs with open PvP, that I choose not to play or pay for. I play AO and enjoy the option to PvP when I choose to.
This game has PvP options and arenas already. I would love to PvP in an all out race war in an open field, or outpost battle/GM event - as an option. With no reliable self heals, or definative character levels, where's the fun? Yes we have 1 shot heals, but that's useless against a party of 2-3 out looking to gank. A level 100 2H sword versus a 220 harvester/80 healer with a pick and focus armor - you do the math. One bonus is I can harvest when I don't have a group to xp in - often for 10 minutes off and on. Having to round up a full team to harvest defeats this.
Looting PvP corpses and titles is fine - in a mutal PvP setting. Hunting low lvl harvesters for mats and titles is lame. This game has a lot of possibilities, both for game play and PvP options. Develop the PvP areas/events for those of us who want it, but there is no need to involve the other unwilling people.

Actually, it's a little more like Wal-Mart being a normal region and Toys R Us being the Prime Roots. Toys R Us has a bit more specialization into the toys, while Wal-Mart has generic stuff... so, you can take your chances defending yourself in the Barbie Isle with Secret Agent Barbie's Kid Safe Tazor, or you can go to the homin friendly Wal-Mart - and get them cheaper!
Anyway, the difference in mats is *not* big enough to complain about, in my opinion - and I've pulled and crafted from supreme mats in the roots and other regions to know.

There is a pretty decent difference between choice mats from the main lands, and supreme mats from the PR. Execellent mats, while present on the surface... are so frigging rare that it's hardly worth mentioning them, even under uber aggro bosses the mats are only basic/choice. There is another thing that you can do with supreme mats that you cannot do with choice mats however... you can trade them with any crafter who can make the thing you need and he can make it with them. There are just too many bonus's over Supreme mats from the PR and choice mats from the surface.neiana wrote:Anyway, the difference in mats is *not* big enough to complain about, in my opinion - and I've pulled and crafted from supreme mats in the roots and other regions to know.

I have a hard time picturing an individual or group in SoR (If this were WoW I'd say this problem would certainly happen) that was high enough level to roam the roots yet so immature that they did so just to gank harvesters for no reason.

well put tetra!
thank you cerest for the quick response. i am glad to hear that it is not concrete yet and hope it never gets this far. i haven't signed up for ATS yet but i might if it would help get this idea squashed.
neiana, as tetra put the mats in PR are just all around better and worth risking mass amounts of DP for those awesome mats. patrols are enough i don't want to fight against every other forager i come across for access to the nearby mat sources. not to mention the warriors that could come down and slaughter us all. i like helping new foragers to the area and being helped as well. i don't want to turn into a dog that growls if you get your hand near his dinner bowl.

I have no ATS access so, I don't know how PvP is shaping up there (heck, post patch, I have no access to the game period), but looting a corpse is a pretty compelling reason to go around ganking harvesters. One harvester carrying 200 bulk in supreme mats? Sounds like a pretty tempting target. Why bother killing 10,000 wombais to get 12 basic linings when one harvester has 400?
Tin.

at the moment yes. in the future? who knows, but i would rather not have the chance to find out. even one little freak with a bit of technobloodlust thanks to his 7th twinkie washed down with red bull would ruin my night.jdiegel wrote:I have a hard time picturing an individual or group in SoR (If this were WoW I'd say this problem would certainly happen) that was high enough level to roam the roots yet so immature that they did so just to gank harvesters for no reason.

from my understanding of this:
It would mean that the people interested in going and killing random people would have to go and do it on the test server. I just don't think thats a good idea, and a deterent to those people who would go and test it. Just a theory, but I know a number of people (me included) have had more than their fair share of being rpk'ed in multiple other games, such that we avoid it at all possible costs. Maybe we should do a poll? hmmm...cerest wrote:Every player who enters the Prime Roots is involved.
