Cerest, Question about Ch. 2 PVP

Post by josephm »

"All five types of PvP follow these principles:
Increase in xp: no gain in xp from the PvP
Death penalty: no xp penalty, but the player characteristics (Hp) drop.
Ranking: At a later date, a ranking of the best players will be introduced.
PvP titles: depending on the ranking, new titles will become available with the ranking system"

By death penalty loosing hp do you mean we are going to start loosing hp permenantly if we die? can we get it back? or is this a timed issue so people don't keep suiciding in pvp, but can still go adventure...even though it means they'll have a slight disadvantage for a time?

All i want is some good ACTUAL quests that i can do solo and with my guild. As for PvP, GvG, I think they should take a hint at Shadowbane how they do it, and in the "real world" , if you kill someone and they have their best equipment on and lots of money, oh well too bad for them, they are going naked and losing money.

Now, for those carebears out there. The quests should be designed so they can reap some rewards themselves, that you couldn't get in a PvP situation. That's all I have to say.

PvP= rewards or just leave it as it is.

Quests= solo and guild quests with very nice rewards.

I think it means you respawn with minimum hps and have to regen like normal.

Just like any other death, you respawn with minimum stats.

LOL if exconvic gets his way on PvP you will see tonz of peoples running around naked again with nothing more than a harvesting pick

as far as the money, that is a touchier subject since this game has no concept of a 'vault' or 'bank' in which to store your cash

Expect to see an upsurge in naked mages - all of them training close combat melee up to maximum. I've already decided to train close combat up to 250, even though I know it's not going to be easy.

As for the cash, my guild hall would be getting every dapper I earned before I went into a PvP enabled area, and my packers would be holding anything I cared about.

I've played UO in the open PvP areas and on their open PvP shard. The full PvP shard was actually the one with the better community... even with full looting on death.

However, the shard's community is also so small that EA's community manager came out and said that we were in danger of being converted to a 'regular' shard - or even shut down.

This game has not attracted a large playerbase yet, and of the players we do have, a great majority of them seem either indifferent to PvP or at best lukewarm about it. There's a sizable minority that do not want to do PvP at all, and yet they do want to participate in fame and ally with the npc factions. You could argue that these people are "carebears" or even that they are not clear on the whole "vision" of Ryzom but that's unlikely to convince them to keep paying for a game they don't feel included in anymore.

Adding "free for all" PvP with full looting to Ryzom would probably kill the game - there would be many, many cancellations happening just after the change was announced.

Most of the people I play with and talk with are looking for content, not PvP battles over black and white prime roots mats, killing harvesters and fighting over empty outposts with no rewards, titles, or impact on their game play.

Thanks for clearing that up guys! I played Arctic Diku mud for 8 years. Still do sometimes.
It's a full loot PvP dragonlance themed mud. Players really have an impact on the game there, and I think that PvP only accentuates that. It should be able to in Ryzom too. PvE is still abundant and a majority of content in most games. I don't see why PvE people complain about PvP.

I hope Ryzom will afford me the same experience...jesus 8 years, that's what, 900-1000 bucks? Damn if only it were that good.

The life cycle of all PvP gendra games, literally.

Phase 1:

Introduction of PvP, this is idealy done through small arena's available to the players with no looting or other penalty to the looser.

Phase 2:

Phasing in of looting the loosers corpse, including % of cash on hand, on the corpse, along with choice or a few items from the corpse.

Phase 3:

Increase PvP area's to allow larger scope battles, this would be similar to Ryzom outposts and fortresses in size and scope.

Phase 4:

Zone wide PvP's added to the game, with marked area's or paths that are non'pvp traveling safe havens, more so for caravan movement.

Phase 5:

Full zones of PvP, no safe travel anywhere, its open game.

Final Phase:

PvP Servers, full dedication to PvP.

Sadly, the devs are jumping from phase 1 with the arena to phase 5 without seeing what effect its going to have on the players, this is a typical movement by the developers, they go all full bore out on the throttle and see who buckles under the stress, then in time, they scale back.

I just wish they were to hire a real project manager that understands MMORPG's, that atleast would mean some propper movement within the context of the game.

This would keep the player base in check and happy.

they were forced to push out the game prematurely due to monetary reasons and are now patching in all that was planned to be in at release, thus the big steps
also note how ryzom does not give the possibility to loot other players, and i also have a strong suspicion that the roots are not going to stay pvp after P2
