Team Targeting

Post by zonoli »

I have a question, that depending on the answer, might be a suggestion. I mainly play the role of a healer. Using my mouse to quickly target an injured teammate (on the team window) is not the most efficent way, especially if switching between 2 or more players throughout a multi-pull or adds fight. This problem is only amplified by playing in 1600x1200 resolution, not to mention if you have mouse lag.

Is there a way, in the style of other games, to use the Function keys to target team members? F1 being self, F2, F3, F4 being the next characters in my team window. Maybe there's some way to set these up as macros, but what would the player #'s be? It would be nice to glance at the team window, instead of staring at it and keeping track of my mouse pointer for hours on end. I hear the SoR has some really good graphics, if only I could look up.

I will have to test around to see if I can't find another way. Try the help menu. Not sure if it is helpful enough. But I know that I have yet to have a player go down and STAY down if I am on the healing team (most groups I get in there are at LEAST two healers, normally a lower level patch healer and a Holy MARY YIKES healer).

I know that there ARE F key buttons, I just have never used them. I sure hope someone is out there that DOES have a clue.

This has been one of my gripes about the game. Here's the work around as I know it. (being a level 118 healer)

Create a macro that I think is Action -> Target Entity then in the entity to target text field you type the name of the player you wish to target. Then assign this to a key. I generally assign mine to 1-9 on the 10key. Then to keep track of it, because there is no order here, just whatever you bound the key as, I drew out a 3x3 grid on a sheet of paper and taped it to my monitor.

In each square corresponding with number on the 10key I write whoever's name is currently bound to that key (in pencil of course).

And that's basically what I did before any hunting or traveling. Group changes piss me off to no end. :) Not really but they are kinda annoying.

Looks like there is no easy and permanent way to do this yet. I guess that makes this question into a suggestion/request to Nevrax. It is "working as intended" and is doable, but just a very ineffective method.

put the team list near the bottom middle of the screen, set it opacity to very low, by right click and changing the properties.

now you will have the lines visible, but will be able to see the action as well.

just a thought

... or

under the user interface switch on all the HP,Sap,Stam bars on so they apear over the players heads.

much more in-game way of see the values.

At this point I mostly click on the player in the team list ( as my team changes constantly ~ killing constantly~ so if I stop to edit my macro people go down ^.^ Oooops !

I do use a macro for action target entity...but usually use this for Multi-Team quests, so that I can actually target the main tanks for other teams. ( it is impossible to click on the right fighter with 10 or more clustered around a Terrifying Nasty Critter bent on killing us all. )
Has anyone yet put up a suggestion/ticket in game on this? It can be very hard with magical sparklies popping all over the place to locate your mouse on the screen for targeting team.
It would be great to be able to hotkey team member 1 -2-3-4....

perhaps a fast target key would help. kinda like the space bar for targeting the nearest enemy in front of you have one that targets the nearest teammate in need of healing.

it should probably also be able to be change so it targets for HP, SAP, or stamina i suppose. downed teammates would be targeted first of course and then go to most damaged to least damaged.

not as good as hotkeys i know but it would help while not using too many keys.

either way it would help healing alot.

the thing that has been annoying me the most is when i target a teamate that is about to go down or just has and it automatically unselects them. all of the sudden i am just standing there doing squat while my team is dieing and i have to scramble to select them again.

Yea, that's annoying - ties in with this same problem (no quick select) but is an issue of it's own.

Reading this post I see a lot of people sharing their "work arounds" - but that's just it. Obviously we've all looked for and wanted the Function key select, and have found ways to make a second rate fix. I've moved team windows, camera angles, and tweaked with a lot of settings. Maybe we'll get a fix, and not ways to live with it.
