Aggressive vs. Gentle

Post by ixils »

Ok... I spent all my pre-patch using aggressive actions and quitting out before the source died. Basically, I followed Doubletap's guildlines that I found here and on his forum.

Now... after using both aggressive and gentle.. I am left wondering why they even put aggressive into the game again.

Perhaps I am missing something again or it is more useful at a higher level but I can only manage to get maybe one or two more mats per dig and the source is so much more unstable that I find myself fighting to keep it from death or explosion.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

IMO and what I usually do, is only use aggressive when I have a teammate using care plans on my source to keep it from exploding and what not. I use gentle when I have nobody else around to care for my sources.

That's what I do and it seems to work. I do however only get about 2 more pulls when using aggressive - right now it doesn't seem to be worth the risk.

Aggressive Quality is available 5 lvls before Gentle Quality of the same ql.
Aggressive Speed is always 1 step faster than Gentle Speed, at the level breaks.
Gentle consumes much more focus than aggressive.

So they are very different and as you move up the levels their difference becomes much much more apparent.

I tend to use aggressive speed and rate, coupled with gentle quality. This gains me the MOST units and the MOST Quality as well as the LONGEST amount of time per spot (I say spot instead of node since I have found that even in an area with ONE type of material, I find three to six distinct nodes. In that the information is MUCH different from prospection to prospection and the location might move a foot or three from prospection to prospection. And OFTEN the number of units in the different locations goes UP or drops by WAY more than I just harvested from the last node.)

I have found SOME instances that I HAVE used ALL harmful, but I did plan on dying, but the reward was worth the dash into freeway traffic risk. For instance, an excellent node of your favorite material for your FAVORITE crafting recipe. These nodes, as many of us already know, have a timer on them. From the moment they are available they have a certain ammount of time before they go UNavailable. And the time between availablity is such that sitting it out starts to resemble EQ spawn camping enough that I refuse to do it. SO I find an Excellent node and I switch in MID extraction to my ALL harmful as fast as I can RIP it from the ground extraction. And get ready to explode and gas myself to ALMOST death. I have managed to make a few items with Excellent resources that were LESS than the "best" type of material for the job, that turned out AS good as the ideal mats or even quite a bit better.

IF you team, by ALL means, go for the strip mining method. I would suggest swapping out who extracts and who heals the nodes, just to be fair.
