Welcome.

Please ignore all the posts dated before 11/11, because they are mostly out of date. There have been many changes to the game, and a lot of people were upset... lets move on and have some fun.

Lets start by pointing out that the world of Ryzom is post-apocalyptic, we the players are a thoroughly repressed bunch of losers who were saved my outsider intervention (Kami and Karavan). Thus the world you are entering is a DANGEROUS PLACE! In other words... "Life wasnt meant to be easy!"

Ryzom is a challenging game, more so if you do it alone. I know a lot of people like to solo (I do also), but Ryzom is (in my opinion) targeted toward group play. Accordingly you will do MUCH better if you pick up a partner, even ONE person will make your game time IMMENSELY more fun. Especially if one of you is a healer.

If you want the easy way then a melee/healer team is just unquestionably the best. Your game experience will be a lot more fun, something that seems to have been lacking if you believed all the old posts (didnt I just tell you to ignore them, damn noob!).

Ryzom is a learning game: dont run out and bash the first yubo you see, they are too cute! Watch them and the other animals, you will note they urinate on you! This is a symbolic warning from the Gods! You are a worm! Yubo's urinate on you and you just stand there and take it.... what a loser... now kill them.

Fortunately, nowadays, the yubo will not turn around and slaughter you, like they did in your grandfathers days (when yubos' were real men!).

After you have taken vengence on yubos you may now move onto Ragus and Gingo. If you listen carefully (that means using sound you noob!) you will hear the gingo's laughing at you. This is a hangover from the "old times" (pre 11/11) when gingos could eat homins by the dozens with one leg tied behind their backs... hohoho they had fun then (well if you read all the posts you would think that - but I told you NOT to do that, damn noob).

Killing a ragus or gingo is a homins sacred duty, and must be done over and over and over... psychopathically... WE HATESSS THEMSSS WE DO! Oops wrong genre...

Ragus and gingos have telepathic powers, as soon as one of them sees you they send out calls and within no time at all, 3 or 4 or 5 of them will be on you. This is were the healer comes in handy. As the tank you will have agro on the first gingo, so when the healer starts healing, all the rest of the gingo will run over and eat him... now is your chance to run for the guards with only a single gingo on you, you might make it... see life as a melee/healer team is much better...

Anyway, I could go on. But what I would really like to say to you is this: Ryzom is NOT doom and gloom, it is really good fun, and it looks great. Yes it lacks a lot of 'in depth' content, arguably any, but there are still plenty of things to do. This is a new game, they only had so much money... Myself I have decided that I am willing to invest several months money to wait and see what they can do, because from what they have done so far I am impressed. I mean if I can blow 5 yrs on EQ what is 6 months for something with much more potential...

If the gingos get the better of you (and they did of most of us) feel free to ask for my help, my characters name is Serend, and I can be in Matis or Fyros to help you out. I do play odd hours tho. I am sure there are plenty of others who would be only too happy to spend an hour or two with a noobie, and I ask them to post here so you can find them.
