My reactions to the upcoming patch notes
What can I say, they're all good changes. They should make combat a lot less frustrating. The magic changes are very good.
It seems the Devs are still too prideful to apologize or admit a mistake. Which is of course their option, it costs them players for sure. People want reassurance that Nevrax still has a vision of the fun game they wanted. I've seen no more vision of story, solo-ability, wide range grouping, etc. Just crippling tinkering with gameplay that isn't broken.
Frankly combat will still be too short for me to want to team much. The high paced kill-or-die combat that is a result of high damage and lower HP makes it more effective for me to just kill things solo, unless I desperately want magic SP in non-elemental. We want the feeling that Ryzom is a finished game where new content is debugged, tweaked and balanced on the test server... not for a week of live gameplay.
I miss my guild mates that Nevrax decided they'd rather chase away and encourage to play other MMOs. I want them back and my confidence that Nevrax is a smart company with an inspiring vision of how to make a game fun, not just produce another static level-grind with better graphics. Realize that making the game longer and more of a grind to level, doesn't make the fun last longer... it often just makes it less fun. People will slow leveling when there is something other than leveling to do (quests, exploring, PvP, roleplay, raids, etc)
To this end I still think that two things desperately need to be added. One an apology from Nevrax itself to all the players who were driven away. Unless of course this is Nevrax's intentional goal. Second to revert the mob HP/Damage to the way it was before (keeping other patch changes both current and adapt future patch as needed) to where more people were having fun. It will greatly improve the reputation of Nevrax and Ryzom as well, make more subscriptions (=more money), and maybe make the mood on the forums a positive one rather than just a war between the bitter people who feel abused and the rabid fanbois

your clarity quenches my anger sightly.. I hope the RABID FANBOYS you refer to will respect the santicity of these opinion and not cause a flame again.

Re: Tweeks and Mod commentary
they don't have to apologize. they made a decision, it lost them some money and players, they changed their minds. why do they have to apologize to you? you make it sound like they stole your first born.
Re: Tweeks and Mod commentary
The changes all seem pretty good, but there is one thing I wish they were intending as well. It looks as if mobs will not be able to kill us as fast (a good thing obviously) but that we will still kill them as fast as now since there is no mention of raising mob hitpoints or decreasing player damage. That, to me, is a bad thing.
The thing I like least about the current system is the brevity of combat. I have several different melee attacks but the best strategy seems to be spam on my hardest hitting attack until the mob is dead. With combat so short there is never a need to manage stamina, no need to attack after dodge because I never have to worry about stamina.
If the pace of combat were slower then both hp and stamina would be a concern again. I like to have to think in order to win, not just hit the same button over and over 'til the mob stops moving.

Asides from magic resistances, this was my other major complaint. I've posted it a gazillion times on the boards.
This person... .flamed me
Alot of people flamed me, and they have the same opinion (or so it seems now that the developers have announced a modification to their big mistake).
I've stated it before, and I'll state it again: The incessant nevrax fanbois did more to make people bitter on this game over the last few days than the screwy patch did.
When people came to this board to post how upset they were, all they were doing was venting their frustrations with the game. Let them vent, let the developers read and something will happen (or it wont). They didn't need to be told that they were "wrong", "not playing the game right" or "inept". All comments I and others have recieved over the last few days.
I am *positive* that this post will generate more flames in my direction, but I just want to drive home a point:
Look, I am gone. *Gone* I got my copy of EQ2 today and I am gone from Ryzom. You won't have to hear my complaints anymore. Infact, if you hadn't antagonized me there would have been a lot less complaining, especially since every issue I had looks to be addressed soon by the developers. You probably don't give a crap that I'm gone, thats fine and I don't expect you to. But you have to realize that for every vocal person like me that left in disgust over this fiasco there were others who left silently.
You need those people. Nevrax needs their money. They are the ones that are keeping this game you love so much from closing down its servers.
The next time the developers screw up (and yes, there will be a next time, no developer yet is perfect, nor should they have to be), just take a time out, let people vent, and get it out of their system.
Anyway, flame away. I just hope I got through to *some* of you. Perhaps defending nevrax to the death at the cost of their own playerbase isn't something people should take upon themselves as their appointed duty. Eventually you'll find someone like me who will get so cheesed off at the situtation that they'll cause a stink 10x worse than it probably would have been.
Maybe that was what was required to get these changes on the board. I'd like to think thats not the case. I'd like to think that the developers have some common sense. However, at this point in time, I am so far gone over this that i can't be objective about it one way or another. The sad thing is, it was my fellow players that drove me to this point of general disgust with the game.
To those of you who are staying aboard: Good luck to you all. I hope that one day this game lives up to its claims on the box and its potential in the imaginations of its players. That would be a great thing.

Re: Tweeks and Mod commentary
They don't need to apolgize. They made a mistake. Fixing it is good enough.
And these changes are good to hear. Lets see how it goes before anyone starts already being critical about it.

I wish I could convey to people how childish and stupid calling somebody else a "fanboi", in any context, makes them look.
You mind as well just sit their chanting, "I'm rubber, you're glue. What ever you say bounces off of me and sticks to you."

How about the other side?jjm152 wrote:I've stated it before, and I'll state it again: The incessant nevrax fanbois did more to make people bitter on this game over the last few days than the screwy patch did.
The incessant angry/aggressive trolls are doing more to make people bitter to the game over the last few days then the screwy patch did.
Is there much difference to both sides of this arguement? No. So before you start going off and nit-picking peoples posts pointing out other peoples inconsistancies. Acknowledge your own.
I dunno about others, but I sure as heck am getting sick of the game because of people who do nothing but flame and insist on having the game developed how they want it. Anti-fanboiX 'Screw the devs and nevrax and their plans for the game, we want it our way and our way now!'
Yes, they had made some changes that have aggravated a number of players. They haven't aggravated everyone. But nevrax has acknowledged this and are working on re-adjusting it to an in-between compromise. Before bashing it, and saying it isn't enough, wait and see. If it still isn't worth your time, and isn't fun, hen decide on a course of action. Whether angry troll or fanboi X, both sides are guilty of driving away the player base. You can try and deny it, but deep down, it is true.

Re: Tweeks and Mod commentary
I'm looking forward to some of the massive combats the engine was designed for, with these faster battles. I hope they can use that to throw way more creatures at us.eschiava wrote:The changes all seem pretty good, but there is one thing I wish they were intending as well. Also, I'm hoping that because the fights are smaller, there won't be such a push to pull one monster at a time. That's been an unrealistic and limiting factor in other MMOGs, which doesn't need to be in this one, IMO.
