New Trial Members Please Read!

Post by aelvana »

Welcome! If you keep browsing these forums, you'll find a lot of intense threads and even a lengthy petition. If you're new to the game, don't be alarmed -- it's not as bad as it would appear.

The first major patch was a few days ago. A lot was changed in extreme ways. A couple things made the game almost unplayable, and were fixed immediately. We were all used to a free ride -- combat and things being fairly easy, and there being a few skills which were badly broken. In all honesty, most of us feel the way we do because we were used to what we had, and have had to readjust. Many will reply to this and flame me. Many will flat out call me a liar and insist that you can't solo or leave town (most because they haven't found the narrower range of mobs). Seriously, we were all fighting naked with zero risk. Terribly spoiled, myself included. Now we have to wear armor, and kill things that grant less than the max EXP cap, with some downtime. Anyone not having "grown up" on early Ryzom, however, won't have had anything stripped from them, and will be playing a challenging, more group oriented Ryzom from the start. This means you ;)

Here's a breakdown:

RYZOM BEFORE PATCH 1:

* Soloing fight was easy, even in light armor
* Group EXP was easy
* Blind was badly broken, fully disabling mobs and making all our hits successful crits, allowing very fast chain pulls that gave the max of 3k EXP
* Spells affected mobs of any level, making the blind problem even worse

RYZOM AFTER PATCH 1:

* Blind is fixed
* Resist rates are fixed -- 3 in 4 spells land on a like level mob
* Soloing is a challenge, but easily doable if careful
* Grouping is still easily doable
* It's quite hard to get the max cap of 3k EXP for anything, as you might expect

Nevrox may change things back (excluding blind etc), and may not, since the game works perfectly fine now. The replies following may get ugly. It is true that all that really needed to be fixed was blind and resist rates, but the game's still easier to solo and group than say Everquest. And one thing to be said about Nevrox is that they're excellent at responding to their community. I'm sure some of the regulars will reply saying as much ;)

I have been playing off and on since the beta. I pre-ordered, became concerned after the patches because of all the negative reactions. However, I have played right on through the patches and contraversey. I still love playing this game and am beginning to see some balancing out in the player population that seems to indicate that life does go on in spite of the changes.

I find the community is beginning to revive and there are more posts with suggestions and helpful advise as the world is today......

Please allow me to extend my ewlcome to the newcomers as well. I concur completely with the original post. Ryzom is an excellent and sometimes challenging MMORPG that I am enjoying fully! I also agree that the customer support here is superb, they are very good at responding to the communities needs.

Enjoy your stay, and hopefully many of you will continue on into a retail subscription.

posted this elsewhere, but will do it again.

Having made a new character to test out how "bad" it was. I found there was very little to moan about from a melee perspective.

Sticking to Suckling Yubo and Suckling Capryni, i got to level 7 melee very quickly. The Weanling Capryni was a close call, and the Puny Ragus was a complete massacre.

But thats similar to what it was before patch at that level.

So pick your combat carefully, dont do for something out of the "i am hard, i can take that" mentality. Progress to each level of mob when you have to and you will do fine :)

This is very true. Thanks, aelvana, for the breakdown. It's useful for all of us, not just new players. You did a good job putting the changes into simple terms. You're right, not everyone is going to agree with you... hopefully the flames have died down by this point, though. :)

Well, I'm not bothering with leveling fighting until I find out whether or not the current system is here to stay. In the mean time I'll just stick to harvesting.

That aside, I fought a Moderate Kipee yesterday just to see what would happen. In medium armor, q70 2h weapon, the fight lasted about 10 seconds, and the thing almost killed me before I got self heal off. When it was all done I gained 59 xp.

Say what you want about the game being challanging but, from where I sit, that just isn't right. Yes, leveling melee is still possible but, yes, the system is still screwed up.

Oh, also, new trial members, please notice - THEY HAVE NO CONTENT.

After you level for a while you'll pretty much be bored out of your mind with nothing to do but continue a boring grind. There is no end game, no high level content, and whatever they initially promised has not appeared. Maybe it will in six months, who knows.

Maybe skip your trial and wait a few months.

And to reiterate a comment made by another, play the game, make your own judgements, only YOU can decide if this game is for you or not. And after reading a few posts by those who have been around for awhile, it will become obvious who of us have made which choice. Enjoy!

Fellow trial members..... I am a member of the very angry ryzom players who cannot play anymore because are unable to obtain better equipment, forage or fight on solo anymore.

but, oddly, I ask you to stick around for some more. The developers clearly understand that the situation now is umbearable, despite what says the people that keeps on trying to be positive.
Ryzom is just at the beginning, it will change back to it's greatness and hopefully improve as well to provide challenge for who wishes it, and still being fun and not useless grinding of yubos like it is now.

Stay safe, avoid the gingos, avoid to do most of the quests (they are seriously broken) and ask for advice to overcome the current inventory bugs, in some cases (sadly not mine) they actually worked.

goodluck to you.

I have been playing since beta 1 last year and still love the game. Some people will like it some people wont.
