You guys had to go and make it EVEN harder than it was before!! IMHO foraging was and IS the hardest skill to develop in the game! Now it is much worse than before!!
- Before the patch you could at least sit and STOP extracting to prevent the source from depleting, now the life bar just continues to drop.. Thus making it MUCH more likely that you will deplete the area.. Gee, isnt running around looking for new material locations a lot of fun??
- The source mode is locked in once you start extracting, before you were able to manipulate it to an extent giving you SOME hope of pulling a mat. I do not know if that was a bug before, but now it is MUCH more difficult to pull a mat without killing yourself or your party!
- Monsters are much harder than before.. As a forager, you do not have l33t melee/magic skills, so that mob jumping on your back just ruined your pull and oh yea, now he is REALLY going to kick youre a$$ now!
Fighters and Mages both have VERY easy xp sources available to them and all they have to do is run 50m outside of any town and hit a SINGLE key to begin combat. Foragers FIRST have to locate a material. SECOND must prospect for it, hoping it is something worth a few dapper. THIRD you have to successfully extract it, which post patch seems extremely difficult!! Foragers do not have a mythical Kipee hill like melee/mages to just hang out, level and make friends.. The forager is out on his or her own usually, with their nose in the DIRT!!
Foraging is probably the most important skill in the game! You are going to have a lot of fun with that store bought gear arent you?? As if finding materials was not difficult enough, combining it with the current changes DOES NOT MAKE FORAGING FUN! Please make finding/extracting materials easier and more consistent. Otherwise I fear Ryzom will go the way SWG did and you will not have ANY foragers or crafters around!!
As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
- Learn care plans. They will completely cancel your first 2 complaints.
- Foragers have to do the FIRST thing only once, mat sources do not move, once you found & marked them your're set. And the SECOND thing isn't much more than "hitting a key", too.
Also, if you really think playing a fighter or mage is a simple you obviously have never played one. Besides, foragers can only just run to the stables of the main city with the recourcespawns and hit a single key to begin foraging...

Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
lol shrike.. I know you are the mage of all mages man, but yes I have played both melee and mage.. My main character is a melee.. Have you ever really played a forager bro?? Have you ever really played a forager post patch?? As you said about me, I doubt it...shrike wrote:- Learn care plans. They will completely cancel your first 2 complaints.

go reroll a forager and see how much fun you have doing it...
Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
*sigh* No, I am getting the mats for my staffs out of thin air.
http://img104.exs.cx/img104/7155/forager2.jpg
I intended to being mainly a mage, but my first char got caught in a runaway lvling loop. Which got so bad that I actually rerolled, using Marin now as forager only (still active - I need to get my mats somewhere, right?) and doing crafting & magic with another char (Aenea).
Believe it or not, I only give my (apparently often quite unwelcome) 0.05 cent to a topic when I actually have tested/experienced the issue personally.

LMAO!!! Foraging was the EASIEST skill in Ryzom to develop. I went from level 35 to 48 in like 4 hours one night. You have got to be kidding me. All you had to do was go up to ANY source and double click on it to gain an easy 1500 xp. Seriously rethink that statement you made. Yes i have played pre- and postpatch and I actually have taken a liking to the new way. I prefer the old way because it was easier to get what I needed but now I value all the mats I get much more because they're harder to get.
Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
venjik - You do not just gain a simple 1500xp after clicking on any old resource.. People say it's easy to lvl because there are nodes in starter towns, but did you really get 1500xp from the nodes in town after lvl 15?? no... Perhaps you have played for some time and you have a good understanding of how harvesting works, but think about being a total newb again.. Harvesting IS the hardest to understand and thus level.. How often do you hear questions on the starter island about what melee actions to take/use?? People are constantly trying to understand the in's and out's of harvesting...venjik wrote:LMAO!!! shrike - Your opinions are more than welcome.. However, there seemed to be a VERY large percentage of the games populace that saw several issues with the patch... I find it extremely hard to believe that this patch was on ATS "for weeks" and that none of the testers noticed a problem with not being able to complete the VERY first harvesting mission?? Or maybe it was because all of their accounts were leveled well passed that point and they NEVER tested the effects the patch would have on the low level player base.. When your a newb and you cannot complete the most basic of missions or kill the lowliest of mobs, something is wrong.. Apparently, they did not listen and patched it anyway...
Anyway, I am looking forward to checking out the changes that were made with the miraculously quick "Patch 2"... You think they had it in the wing?? Hell yea they did lol...
Ciao
Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
Currentl my problem ( partly from my own stupidity) is that I went and recerted all my harvest skills forgetting to get a care plan. now I'm barely into lv 53 harvesting, no care plan andhaving a difficult time getting q50 mats for any sort of exp.... * sigh* well 2 levels untill I can get a care plan. I'll have to live with a verry slow harvest.
Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
Well having now played after the 2nd patch I am finding it MUCH easier to actually get some mats out of the ground.. Care plans are a must as shrike had said earlier.. It is nice to be getting more than 1 - 2 mats per pull now. I think between making it a little harder over all to harvest, with the harvesting / mob changes and being able to recieve a few more mats each extraction they have done a decent job of correcting the problems Patch 1 had.. I feel some balance..
Now, we'll see how things go once we unravel the economy with the large influx of player acquired materials.. I hear crafters are complaining now =P
I'm content, so I'll quit *****ing =)

Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
Foraging only gets HARD when you couple it with crafting, meaning you are not looking for ANY node, but THIS node.
In the newbie area, as a Fyros, knowing the clues locating a node (the micro vegitation clues), and having more than a few fellow foragers to share specific node locations with, I was able to go from level one forager to level 59 before I FINALLY left, and I NEVER sat at the mission nodes to grind out the Q50 that ONLY they offered on the noob land. I kinda figured that was a bit too close to exploitation for my comfort.
But once you hit the mainland, and especially post patch one. YES foraging is no longer as EASY as it once was.
Prepatch one, the HARDEST hard was locating the node, which a few hints and other things were MORE than enough to jump this hurdle neatly (knowing where to aim by visual clues, knowing and mapping the choice material nodes for the items you craft, and sharing node location information with others).
But now it is a matter of knowing where the "safe" harvesting locations are, and I admit that post patch I have clicked the "drop all" button on MORE than one occasion (too far from town, not safe enough to drag packer more than ten feet from the stable, and full of non stacking "mutt" qualities or materials I would not craft with even to grind levels) just to finish out a foraging level.
My main issue is that, as you level focus gets more an more important. Not the regen, just the PURE focus numbers. Since they have messed with how the focus is used I have to use heal focus EVERY node just to get ONE unit of the quality I am aiming for. By the time I get the ONE unit point, I am still praying for the Quality. If I switch to harmful mode, I deplete the node or *gasp* the area.
I am just stubborn enough to work this out. More than likely I will push crafting until I can raise my focus more, then raise NOTHING but focus until I can get through a single extraction without having to mash the heal focus and find myself wanting to mash it again before the end.

Re: As if foraging was not HARD enough!!!
'k...I have read all of the posts on this thread, and I am left with a question (please note that I am still new to SoR): What the hell is a "care plan"
It sounds like something my workplace would have us institute for our customers.
BTW - on speaking about the beginning quests/missions for new players/characters; I still have yet to find the damned Amber in the Zorai lands. I go to the cliffs in the south, but the damned critters out there kill me every time. I have melee up to 18 and magic up to 17, but the critters out there regen health so fast that it doesn't even matter if I hit them or not.
