This was an excellent tread for beginners (and not so beginners) on the old forums so I thought i'd restart it here. Please post useful tips.
1) If your having trouble entering water when fleeing combat hit F6 then F12 to disengage from combat and deselect the target. You should then be able to enter the water.
2) Combat actions can be automatically recycled (continually used) by double clicking the icon or double tapping the number key. A white boarder will appear around the action when it is in recycle mode.
3) To cancel an action sit down.
4) When fighting more than one creature and the first one dies immediately click the second creature to continue your attack routine without pausing.

3b) To cancel an action press ctrl+s (the intended way of doing it )
1) Always target people from your team list (when possible), to avoid hassle and misclicks/presses. Use the target your target's target shortcut to make targeting easier under some circumstances.
2) When quartering near large creatures, quarter by pressing only once and then right click --> quartering (instead of the doubleclick). More than one trip has ended due to one kipee first coming to sniff you from behind and you target it instead (and attack with doubleclick).
3) Combine aim at rear leg stanza with accurate attack to make hitting easier. (or incur the penalty with aim stanza and after that start ramming with accurate attack).
4) Keep all your crafting material with a mektoub and craft near the stables. You can access your mektoub's inventory while crafting.
5) If you're having a bad headache, put a sharp stick under your toenail and kick against a wall. Rest assured, you'll forget the pain in your head.
6) Keep always weapons of different damage types with you. You may encounter a mob that resist a certain type of damage and switching the blade might get the job done faster (and with less downtime between fights than with ignore armor for piercing types due to stamina usage).
7) Before you teleport to a different region altogether, first buy the ticket back too ;P (one-way, remember..)

Re: Tips and tricks
Hitting TWO keys at a time can be tiring to the hand/arm (repetitive motion injury) but hitting ONE key (I remapped it to Q) is NOT as injurous, and is easier on timing than the CLUMSY control S.
It is possible to reprogram many skills on the hands bar, and adjust the "costs" of the skill. You can, for instance, make a NO sap, point blank spell. Thus ENSURING you are able to heal until the cows come home, and never need to sit and regen sap. OR cast point blank damage on mobs while the tank hacks them to bits, or stun them, or *insert other spell here*. You could also pay with a timer that is a bit SILLY, but with a FAR range and lower sap cost...it would work WELL for a pull spell on a mostly stationary mob, and wouldn't suck your sap pool empty in one or two casts.
This ability to "pay" for a skill with something OTHER than the obvious REALLY helps out higher level fighters with a healer in group. They can pay with a few HP and LESS stamina and be able to link a few skills on ONE button, they way their stamina pool doesn't drop like a lead balloon. They can that way end up doing the MOST damage...for the longest amount of time.
You can also add stat boosters to Armor or weapons by adding the boost to the crafting skill.
And mix and match the harmful and gentle extraction actions into something that is a bit more manageable and survivable than STRAIGHT either way. And come up with one or two prospecting actions that fit YOUR foraging needs.
You can open the map and click on a premapped pin or respawn spot and get the distance to THAT pin on your compass. VERY handy on the mainland where there are MANY pre pinned locations, and mapping pins are at a premium.

BUMmm errr? Hey!
This doesn't apply anymore. I notice since the last few patches that I have no trouble diving for cover into the water when I am being chased by mobs.
COOOOL!
anyway, BUMP!

This has been very useful for all who have tried it.
If mouse cursor feels sluggish it helps to set hardware mouse on. Game configuration->imputs->mouse and tick hardware box. Hardware mouse is much more smoother on some configurations (in fact all configurations that i know).
