How is color determined? I crafted a set of armor using all purple mats and some of the pieces came out beige.

For me it's always been the colour that the majority of the mats has, are you sure you didn't add some beige mats by accident?

Bet you are Zorai
Its not the colour on the little Icon its the colour specified in the properties of the material.

Some parts are beige for eg. Zorai Light Armor on males. If you look at the little preview icon (which finally works) you will see that you only color part of the armor. This is intended. I dont know how that changes with medium quality.
