Conning Mobs
Conning Mobs
How you tell if a MOB will be too tough? I thought it was the 2 squares on the top right of the screen, but they seem to always look the same. Sorry for such a newb questio, but there has got to be an easier way than try and die.

You are correct, it is the two squares in the upper right.mcnabbd wrote:How you tell if a MOB will be too tough? The first is the level, if you right click on the window and go to 'help' it will tell you what the colors mean. They are somewhat broad catagories however, lighter colors on on the low end of the spectrum, darker on the high end ( a Vigerous Kipee is light green and is about level 14, a Hard Kipee is dark green and is about level 46).
The second is supposed to tell you if the mob is agressive, but there are varying views of this, most say it doesn't work yet.
A good rule of thumb: If something has a scary name and looks like it can eat you, it will.
Also keep in mind that just because you are level X does not neccisarily mean that you can handle a creature at level X. You may find that you need to fight things "weaker" as you progress, and there are different schools of thought on whether it's best to fight lots of small things, or lower numbers of big things.

Re: Conning Mobs
I am curious about the conning system too. I have noticed different colors on the targeting reticule (the thing that blinks around the targeted mob).
I am level 45 fighter and was grouped with a few higher players last night. We were killing Cloppers ALL night long. They had a lighter blue to teal reticule. The mobs near town were a GREEN reticule, the ones I soloed and liked the xp from were white to blue reticules.
I honestly do not know other than to ask other players what the progression on a type of mob is. This is one area I would LIKE to have some info on. Especially since I tend to forage ALOT and would LOVE to know friend from foe while I am bent over digging in the sand.

Re: Conning Mobs
The color & most of all the name of the mobs helps a lot to narrow down the level range of the mob.

Re: Conning Mobs
Thanks for all the responses. Nice to ask questions about the game and not get flamed. I will start trying to pay more attention to the color of the boxes and the names of the creatures.
Re: Conning Mobs
actually conning with the two boxes will get you killed.
What you should be looking at is the bracket around the mob when you target it that kinda of shrink aand grow...pay close attention to the bracket color...it will tell you if you can or cannot take that creature....green to red...the darker the color the more advanced the mob.
The 2 boxes on the targets health bar base themselves on level and aggressiveness...the problem lies in the fact that the boxes are not comparative to what level you are and the level of the mob is a broad range...example blue=35-50...so the mob your fighting right now which maybe level 36 will show the same color as the mob across the pond from you that is level 50. The colors in the 2 boxes are really unnecessary because you can get the same info about the mob by its name.
The brackets color is based on your level compared to the mobs so if its green you probably can take it...blue maybe...dark blue could be tough and so on, and will change as your levels increase, the boxes won't.
Since im color blind...i use the trial and error method...I go hit the mob...if either he hits me back and it wipes out half my hp or i hit it a couple hundred times and its health doesnt move...its time to hit the disengage and speed spell and get out of dodge.
Brackets who needs stinkin brackets.
