Thats a bold statement Paulrgod, possibly true but bold nonetheless. I can certainly agree with most of the things in your review.
My impressions of Ryzom after my first week are very positive. As Paul's review says, the first thing you notice when you enter the world is the graphics - this is one great looking game. There have been times when I have just run around and had a look at the scenery, the trees swaying in the wind, storms, and the way the creatures behave.
The actions of the monsters has been most impressive. I have played games where the monsters are more or less static, waiting on the landscape until a player comes along to fight them. In Ryzom you can stand and watch nature in action, and if there are Yubos near by they will almost certainly come up and sniff you and paw you while stood on their hind legs - just be careful though as I have seen them cocking their legs numerous times! The carnivores hunt the herbivores - I have witnessed many a fight between Gingo and Yubo - but only at certain times of day. Sometimes the monsters sleep, Gingos lazing in the afternoon sun after gorging on Yubos. Also, the monsters migrate a little, whilst staying in roughly the same area they move from point to point within it. At times I have been at a spot harvesting when suddenly a heard of Yubo or a flock of Izam descend upon me getting under my feet when I'm trying to find that choice node. The world of Atys is very much alive.
There are some confusing things to begin with; the interface looks more complicated than it actually is and with time it becomes quite intuitive. There are so many options in terms of skill choices and stanzas that at first you wonder where to start, but after a while it becomes clear that this myriad of options is one of the games great strengths.
You can be anything and/or everything in this game provided you have the time to dedicate to a particular skill. I experimented with different skills and ended up with a character who was skilled in melee, magic and ranged fighting, could craft armour, pikes, pistols and bullets and harvest choice mats. From what I can tell the skill 'tree' can be any shape you wish - tall and thin if you want to stick to few skills and use your time to level faster; or shorter and broader if you wish to try a bit of everything.
What is great about the stanza system is the ability to combine different actions into a single action - for example combining accurate attack and increase damage, or creating a low power close range acid spell that costs zero sap for when I'm running low. Of course I have only just scrached the surface, I cant wait to see what's possible at higher levels.
Weak points? I found harvesting hard to get in to at first and I could see a lot of people being put off by it. At first I had real problems finding sources other than the ones in the towns and it was a bit tedious. However, once I tried out and understood some of the prospecting and harvesting skill options I started to have more success and harvesting became less of a chore and showed its worth when I got more crafting plans. I think the main problem here was the lack of description on the skills - I probably would have got better sooner if I had a better idea of what I needed to train. The only other weakness that comes to mind is the cost of ammo crafting - shooting stuff is fun but I get the feeling it will be more of a hobby than a profession for me unless they lower the amount of mats needed per clip or increase rounds per clip.
I have a good feeling about this game.

The Divine Council of Pyr
In order to be at one with the Static Cosmos, one must achieve a state of supreme stillness.
This state is known as Apathy.
The word APATHY derives from the Atlantean.
A-PATH-Y.
A meaning A.
PATH meaning PATH.
And Y being an abbreviation of WHY.
Quite literally A PATH TO THE MEANING WHY.
I'm really enjoying Ryzom. It's the first game I have played where you lose yourself in the atmosphere of it because everything just feels so alive.
It seems to have a very mature following, lots of good, friendly people who are willing to help others all having fun in region chat and the game guides do a fantastic job of making stories come alive.
There are of course, a few bugs that need to be ironed out but nothing that would make me log in frustration. I think once patch 1 comes along things will get even better and we will have a number 1 winner game!
Not much else to say because Hugorune did a pretty good job of summing everything else up with a good honest review!
