Shield Information?

A friend and I duo often, and have started a pair to become heavy armour with shields. So far, what little info we have found about shields is not encouraging, but are stubbornly proceeding. We will mainly focus on fighting with magic as support (self heal, etc). Harvest and craft shall be raised as well, to help with equipment.

For weapons we are looking at 1H sword and, hopefully, spear. Have not found much info on maces, but the few comments we heard indicated maces are not very good. Anyone have better info?

Are we crazy? Advice?

Shield does a couple of things for a fighter. The primary function is increased damage reduction similar to extra armor in the front. It is also another hard point for stat bonuses. There is a special fighter skill that allows a tank with a shiled to take a percentage of damage done to a nearbye team member. All of this comes at the cost of extra damage and extra stamina usage.

For a two man team, the shield will slow down exp. You want to fight things that can be taken down quickly. Its worth getting one for larger team fights. Ryzom is interresting in the fact that getting a weaker skill only slows down getting the better ones. Its possible to get all the skills available given enough time.

Does anyone know how the shield dodge and parry bonuses effect things? Is it additive with other armor dodge and parry bonuses?

Thanks for the info nemin. We can live with slower duo experience, especially if we can contribute more (?) in large groups.
