Hello all fairly new to game and wondering if it would be wise to get the DoT spells. I currently have Freeze and Acid bolts but no dots. I fail to see if they are worth it or not. Also what would be a smart thing to focus on for a mage? I have fear but I have been hearing alot about Blind or is that only useful for melee?

Im not gonna tell u weather to get it or not, u can make that choice. Dot Spell is mainly good for workin in groups mainly where you will not be takin much hits as it less less dmg (yes i know its over time) but while casting it u are unable to move and thus take massive hits from mobs more easily. Thats my opinion, i maybe wrong. And blind is a really good spell, but again you need to maintain it but its well worth it for either using magic or melee as the mob cant attack u. A tip for u fear spell is more for the solo offensive magician (this is because u have range, so hit the mob again and again, when it gets close use fear he will run and keep hitting again should help alot)

Good thing about DOT spells, is that u can configure them to match ur sap and health regeneration rates, so u stand there dealing damage while losing no health or sap. It is best used in groups, as if u try to solo u wil get chewed up by the larger mobs .

Links will do more damage than the equivalent direct damage blast. However, you can learn the direct damage earlier.
Other advantages to DoTs, no need to recast in most cases, once the initial link is established, it usually will not be broken, and no need to worry about failed castings.
As with all spells, if you are casting, then you are going to get hit more, that's not just with link spells, but anything.
Disadvantages - Can't modify the cost to maintain the link. No matter what the initial casting cost, the cost to maintain the link stays the same, however, it is relatively low. Kipee really don't like cold links. At all. Damage is delt every 'tic', that is equivalent to the base casting speed of the spell, not every second.
One thing I've noticed is that Madness isn't really all that effective, has anyone had good success with it?

Ive got Madness 4... it seems to work on big hitting mobs that you need a group for, but I really can't be sure as there is no damage indicators at all. The mob does seem to die quicker using madness than Acid 6
